Venom: Let There Be Carnage Is Doing Better At The Box Office Than Original Movie, Despite Pandemic

The Venom sequel, Let There Be Carnage, had a very strong opening this past weekend at the North American box office. It made $90.1 million in the US and Canada to surpass Black Widow ($80.8 million) to become the highest-grossing movie during the pandemic for its opening weekend, according to Deadline. Let There Be Carnage is actually doing even better than 2018's Venom, which made $80.2 million for its opening weekend--and there was no pandemic at the time. "Venom: Let There Be Carnage absolutely validates our exclusive theatrical window strategy," Sony Motion Pictures boss Josh Greenstein said. "If you look at the history of theatrical, the obituaries have been written many times, and they’ve always been wrong. We had confidence in the theatrical experience, confidence in our big valuable IP, and took full advantage and had the patience to weather all of this. That strategy is paying off, which we're happy about. It's a nice validation of the theatrical strategy."Continue Reading at GameSpot

Dota 2's The International Won't Have In-Person Attendance Due To COVID

Valve has announced that DOTA 2's massive professional gaming tournament The International will no longer allow fans to attend due to COVID. The event is still going forward, though, and it is scheduled to begin on October 7 in Romania, Bucharest. "We have been carefully evaluating the continued rise of Covid rates in Romania, as well as the resulting introduction of new local restrictions in Bucharest," Valve said in a statement. "To ensure the safety of all players, talent, and production staff participating in the event, we have decided to refund all ticket sales for The International 2021." "We wanted nothing more than to welcome fans live to the event, but we can no longer do so in a way that allows us to prioritize the health and well-being of both audience members and participants," the statement goes on to say.Continue Reading at GameSpot

New World Fast Travel And Mobility Guide: How To Navigate Aeternum More Quickly

New World Fast Travel And Mobility Guide: How To Navigate Aeternum More Quickly

As is to be expected from an MMO, players have a lot of ground to cover in Amazon's New World. There are no mounts or flight paths in Aeternum, however, meaning players will have to travel on foot almost anywhere they want to go. That can be more than a little time-consuming, but there are, thankfully, a few ways players can speed up the travel process. Below is some detailed information on how fast travel works in New World, as well as other ways you can improve your speed and mobility as you move around Aeternum. Fast Travel In New World, you can fast travel from settlement to settlement, for a cost. Spirit Shrines, which are scattered throughout the wilderness of Aeternum, can also be fast traveled to. But there are a few caveats. Here's how fast travel works in New World: * You must have previously visited the settlement or Spirit Shrine you are fast traveling to. * You have to be at either a Spirit Shrine or settlement to fast travel to another location. * Fast traveling uses a special resource called Azoth, which can also be used for crafting. This resource isn't super plentiful in the early stages of the game. The Azoth cost of fast traveling varies depending on your character's inventory weight, the distance being traveled, and whether your faction controls the settlement being fast traveled to. Fast traveling with abandon will quickly deplete your Azoth supplies, so it's best to only fast travel when you absolutely need to (or just can't stand the thought of walking for another 20 minutes).Continue Reading at GameSpot

Konami Apologizes For eFootball 2022's Many Issues, Including Wonky Face Scans And PS1-Era NPCs

Konami recently rebranded eFootball series launched this week but eFootball 2022 did not go over as well as the publisher might have wanted. The game has suffered from a number of issues--including player models that don't look very realistic and gameplay issues--and now Konami has apologized and stressed that it continues to work on improvements to the live-service game. "After the release of eFootball 2022, we have received lots of feedback and requests regarding game balancing that includes pass speed and defense operation. We would also like to acknowledge that there have been reports of problems users have experienced with cut-scenes, facial expressions, movements of players, and the behavior of the ball," Konami said. Fortnite Shockwave Launcher Unvaulted After Winning Fan Vote

Fortnite Shockwave Launcher Unvaulted After Winning Fan Vote

The Shockwave Launcher has returned to Fortnite following an in-game poll which saw the weapon earn the majority of fan support over the Rift-To-Go. It's the first such fan vote of its kind, but more will be coming throughout the whole season, so save some gold bars for what's next. The Shockwave Launcher won the fan vote easily, with over 70% of votes across several weeks of in-game voting. Players can contribute their gold bars to the War Effort all season and decide which weapons and items will be unvaulted in Season 8. As of now, the Shockwave Launcher can be found in regular chests, Cosmic Chests, and Supply Drops. The Shockwave Launcher was the clear favorite among a majority of fans. The fan-favorite weapon fires long-range Shockwave Grenades, giving them more air than the typically thrown Shockwave Grenades themselves. When they land, Shockwave Grenades result in an area-of-effect attack that will thrust players away from the blast depending on their positioning, though it also protects those players from fall damage, so it's mostly used as a disruption, not to inflict damage. Clever players are known to use it to fling opponents back into the storm, or even shoot it behind their own feet so they can be thrust forward to quickly scale builds or escape danger.Continue Reading at GameSpot

Next Project At Tango Gameworks Is Led By The Evil Within 2 Director

During Xbox's Tokyo Game Show live stream, Tango Gameworks founder Shinji Mikami shared the first detail about the company's next project to come after Ghostwire: Tokyo. It's being led by John Johanas, the director of The Evil Within 2. Microsoft's Phil Spencer had a discussion about the studio with Mikami (around the 56:00 mark in the video below). Mikami said (translated by IGN), "Right now, John is in the middle of working energetically on a new game." However, Mikami didn't provide any more information about what the project entails. Spencer also spoke about young game development talent at Tango Gameworks, saying, "One of the things you and I have talked about is the importance of young people in our industry, bringing new voices onto our creative teams, and hearing from a new generation of creators." Mikami mentioned Kenji Kimura, who is the director of Ghostwire: Tokyo, and how he's been working incredibly hard on the title. Mikami said that he wants to give young developers the chance to create games sooner rather than later, noting, "As a studio that tries to give young people big opportunities, we're always taking on the challenge of creating new games."Continue Reading at GameSpot
