Helldivers 2 Developer Will "Never" Add PvP Because It Doesn't Want A Toxic Community

Helldivers 2 Developer Will "Never" Add PvP Because It Doesn't Want A Toxic Community

Anyone looking to spread managed democracy to their fellow players in Helldivers 2 are out of luck, as developer Arrowhead Game Studios has no plans to introduce a PvP mode to the game, with CEO Johan Pilestedt going so far as to say that it'll "never" be added to the multiplayer shooter. The reason why? Because Arrowhead simply doesn't want to invite any toxic elements into the growing armies of Super-Earth.

"We'll 'never' add a PvP-mode," Pilestedt said in response to a Helldivers 2 player suggesting the inclusion of the mode. "This is to reduce toxic elements from the community. We want an environment that's supportive, fun, and where we all are fighting on the same side!"

By its design, Helldivers 2 emphasizes teamwork and tactics in each squad. Friendly-fire is on by default and can't be disabled, so walking in front of a player while they're mowing down democracy-hating Terminids or traitorous robots will result in a quick death. This design decision works surprisingly well in fostering connections between teammates and there's an unspoken rule to avoid griefing when you're exploring a planet unless you want to be booted from the squad.Continue Reading at GameSpot

A New Game In The Style Of The Zelda CD-I Games Is Out Now

A New Game In The Style Of The Zelda CD-I Games Is Out Now

Indie developers Seedy Eye Software have just released Arzette: The Jewel of Faramore, a new game in the style of the classic 1990s Zelda CD-I games. Don't worry, you don't need to buy a CD-I to play it because it's available on all modern platforms.

According to the Arzette: The Jewel of Faramore Steam page, players will "explore the Kingdom of Faramore, slay fearsome foes, acquire powerful items, discover secrets, assist colorful characters, and defeat the evil Daimur!" Based on what was shown in the trailer, Arzette is a love letter to older Zelda games.

It does a great job capturing the cheesiness of the over-the-top voice acting and art style that made the Zelda CD-I games memorable. Like the older games, Arzette is a 2D platformer that'll have players solve various puzzles and fight monsters. According to the trailer, the backgrounds in the game are "hand-painted."Continue Reading at GameSpot

Skull And Bones - How To Find The Defender Hulk Ship Blueprint

Skull And Bones - How To Find The Defender Hulk Ship Blueprint

There are 10 total ships you can acquire throughout your time in Skull and Bones. Each ship has a different name and class and you need to be a specific level to captain certain ships. One of the best early-game ships you can build is called the Defender, which is in the Hulk class.

As you might expect with a name and class like that, the Defender is a part of the Tank Ship Type, meaning it has extra defenses and specializes in reducing damage when bracing. You can read more about the Tank and the other Ship Types in our previous Skull and Bones guide. For now, though, if you want to get your hands on the Defender, you need to find its blueprint in a specific spot on the map.

Defender blueprint location in Skull and Bones

All ships, weapons, and other parts require you to find a blueprint before you're able to craft them. Sometimes the blueprints are awarded to you after completing a quest, but for the most part, you'll be purchasing these blueprints through merchants around the map in Skull and Bones. Skull And Bones - Ship Types And Cannon Types Explained

Skull And Bones - Ship Types And Cannon Types Explained

One of the main progression paths in Skull and Bones is upgrading your ship and its equipment. At the start of the game, you're left to sail the seas on a small raft, but eventually, you can build a behemoth of a vessel with cannons, furniture, armor, and more.

Along the way on this journey, you're presented with several different ship types as well as a variety of weapons, mostly consisting of cannons. It's important to understand what these ship types mean and what the difference is between one cannon and another so you can build a ship perfectly designed to your needs and playstyle. Below, you can see a list of every different ship and cannon type in Skull and Bones.

All Ship Types in Skull and Bones

From everything we've seen so far in Skull and Bones, there are three primary ship types: DPS, Tank, and Support. Every class of ship is given one of these types, which determines how large the ship is and what its special perks might be. For example, a Support ship such as the Sentinel has the perk "Unburden," which "restores severe damage by 0.5% and hull health by 0.5% per second." Because Support ships specialize in aiding friendly ships, their perks are usually centered around healing in some way.Continue Reading at GameSpot

Snag A Discounted Mario Vs. Donkey Kong Preorder Before They Sell Out

The Nintendo Switch's next big exclusive is just days away. Mario vs. Donkey Kong launches this Friday, February 16. You could order your copy at any major retailer for $50, but there's also a way to save on your preorder. Geek Alliance is currently offering a $5 discount on the US version of Mario vs. Donkey Kong. However, since the Switch is region-free, you should may want to grab the international version for $42 (down from $50). The game is still in English and will operate like normal, with the only difference being the ratings board logo (it won't be ESRB). Preorder at Geek Alliance

Unsurprisingly, this is the best deal we've seen on Mario vs. Donkey Kong ahead of launch. Switch exclusives tend to not receive discounts from major retailers until months after launch. Geek Alliance offers public-facing stock updates. At the time of writing, there were just over 350 copies of the North American edition in stock and 500 international copies. As such, we wouldn't be surprised to see both versions sell out in the next few days.Continue Reading at GameSpot

Ryan Gosling Gets Sylvester Stallone's Blessing To Be Next Rambo

Ryan Gosling Gets Sylvester Stallone's Blessing To Be Next Rambo

Sylvester Stallone has quite the pick to carry on his legacy as the iconic character John Rambo: Barbie star Ryan Gosling. The Tusla King actor believes Gosling is the right choice because of his love for First Blood, though admitted some might find him "too good-looking" for the part.

Appearing on The Tonight Show, host Jimmy Fallon asked whether it was true that Gosling has Stallone's blessing to be the next Rambo, per Variety. The Rocky actor confirmed that's the case, saying he met Gosling at a dinner previously. "[Gosling] goes, 'I was fascinated by Rambo and I used to go to school dressed as Rambo and people would chase me away and I still didn't stop. I’d vacation as Rambo.’ He just kept saying that he had a lot of affiliation with Rambo," Stallone said. "And I thought, you know, this is interesting. If I ever pass the baton, I’ll pass it on to him because he loves the character."

However, Stallone jokingly stated someone else could nix the idea for one reason in particular. "... I don’t know if anyone would say, 'Hey, he's too good-looking to be Rambo," he said with a chuckle. The Rambo film franchise spans five movies: starting with First Blood in 1982 and ending so far with Rambo: Last Blood in 2019. There currently aren't any new projects in development.Continue Reading at GameSpot

16 Wrestlemania Matches Revealed For WWE 2K24's Showcase Of The Immortals Mode

16 Wrestlemania Matches Revealed For WWE 2K24's Showcase Of The Immortals Mode

The annual WWE 2K Showcase mode has highlighted individual wrestlers in the past, beginning with Rey Mysterio in 2K22 and then following with John Cena last year. For WWE 2K24, however, the attention shifts to Wrestlemania, the biggest show on the WWE calendar, as 2K Sports has released first details on WWE 2K24's Showcase Of The Immortals Mode.

This year's showcase will feature 21 matches spanning all five decades of Wrestlemania, from the late 1980s to last year's two-day event in Los Angeles. As with previous years, players will unlock new matches by completing each individual match, with extra unlocks for completing certain challenges. The mode will also feature instant transitions from in-game action to real-life footage of the match being played using the game's Slingshot technology.

2K has revealed 16 of the 21 matches players will experience in their Showcase Of The Immortals runs, which feature members of the WWE 2K24 roster like The Rock, Stone Cold Steve Austin, "The Fiend" Bray Wyatt, Rhea Ripley, and more. One notable exception from the revealed list is Brock Lesnar, who has recently been removed from the game's cover art due to his alleged connections with the Vince McMahon lawsuit.Continue Reading at GameSpot

Banishers: Ghosts Of New Eden - Ascend Or Resurrection Choice Guide

Banishers: Ghosts Of New Eden - Ascend Or Resurrection Choice Guide

Within the first few hours of Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden, you have a very important--and difficult--decision to make. As Red, you must swear an oath to the now-deceased Antea on whether you will help her ascend peacefully into the afterlife, or resurrect her when her body has been retrieved from the meetinghouse. While the game does explain that resurrecting Antea requires sacrificing as many settlers as possible with a blame ritual, it isn't clear exactly what that means. Here's a spoiler-free explanation of which oath you should pick.

Banishers Ascend oath explained

If you choose to help Antea ascend, this means that when you eventually make it back to her body in the meetinghouse, Red will allow her to move on peacefully. This is, essentially, the easier option of the two.

Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden has lots of optional side quests known as Haunting Cases. At the end of each of these, you must decide on the outcome for the people involved - usually one living settler and one ghost. For Antea to ascend, you may either "forcedly banish the ghost to oblivion" if you believe they are at fault and have done wrong, or you can ascend them with a release ritual. Either option contributes to Antea's ascent, but you cannot blame the living settler.Continue Reading at GameSpot

Microsoft May Add DLSS-Style Game Upscaling Tech To Windows 11

Microsoft May Add DLSS-Style Game Upscaling Tech To Windows 11

Microsoft seems to be developing its own DLSS-like, AI-upscaling feature. X (formerly Twitter) user PhantomOcean3 posted screenshots (via The Verge) from the latest test versions of Windows 11, which shows a toggle for Automatic Super Resolution. In the menu, Microsoft describes the feature as follows: "Use AI to make supported games play more smoothly with enhanced details."

Microsoft has not yet announced this feature, so there are no details regarding how it will work or if you'll need specific hardware to run it. DLSS requires a supported Nvidia graphics card, whereas AMD's FSR and Intel's XeSS run on competitors' GPUs. The basic idea behind DLSS and similar technologies is that the game runs on a lower internal resolution, which improves performance. The upscaling tech improves the visuals to minimize visible impact on graphical fidelity.

In this Windows Insider update, new color management tools were also included. With this update, you can add or remove color profiles and set new defaults. There's also a feature which automatically manages colors to ensure "accuracy."Continue Reading at GameSpot

Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth Has An Almost Shot-For-Shot Recreation Of An Infamous Flashback

Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth Has An Almost Shot-For-Shot Recreation Of An Infamous Flashback

One of the big draws of Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth is how the sequel is preparing to explore brand-new territory now that the original's Midgar portion has been completed. That doesn't mean that the established lore of the game is being abandoned, as one of the most pivotal moments from the 1997 RPG has been faithfully recreated and is available to experience in the Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth demo.

For anyone familiar with the game, you'll know just how important Nibelheim is to the story of Final Fantasy 7. The destruction of this town set several events into motion, but it's perhaps best known for being the incident where Sephiroth has his heel turn, murdering the townsfolk and turning his back on the player in an iconic and fiery scene.Continue Reading at GameSpot

Doctor Who Showrunner Calls Fortnite Doctor Who Collab A "Myth"

Doctor Who Showrunner Calls Fortnite Doctor Who Collab A "Myth"

After months of rumors and speculation of an upcoming collaboration between Fortnite and the BBC's Doctor Who, the showrunner for the British sci-fi series has seemingly put them to rest, but not in the way fans might have hoped.

Per Eurogamer, Doctor Who boss Russell T. Davies addressed the potential pair-up on Instagram, after a commenter asked for any news on it. Davies responded simply that the collaboration was "a complete myth" and that there is no update on it at all.

Rumors about Doctor Who's arrival in Fortnite began last year, as the show was approaching its 60th anniversary special in November. Prominent Fortnite leaker iFireMonkey posted of their findings as early as April, as they mentioned a set of "2 Skins, 2 Pickaxes, 1 Glider, and 1 Emote" as part of the event.Continue Reading at GameSpot

Twisters Trailer Promises Twin Tornadoes And Tons Of Destruction

"If you feel it, chase it," seems like the mantra for Glen Powell's character Tyler Owens in the debut trailer for Twisters, a sequel to the 1996 classic. Let's just say the so-called Tornado Wrangler will be getting exactly what he asks for in the upcoming movie.

The Twisters trailer sets the stakes for Owens as well as Kate Cooper, played by Where the Crawdads Sing star Daisy Edgar-Jones. She apparently had a horrific experience with a tornado that's teased early on the video but gets roped back in with Owens somehow. In fact, at one point the duo are chasing twin tornadoes.

Powell, known for Top Gun: Maverick, was in talks to join Twisters back in April 2023, though plot details were under wraps then. It's now known his character is a "charming and reckless social-media superstar," according to the movie's synopsis. To add to the description, he's heard saying in the trailer: "You don't face your fears, you ride 'em."Continue Reading at GameSpot

The Star Wars Prequels Have Held Up Pretty Well, Darth Vader Says

The Star Wars Prequels Have Held Up Pretty Well, Darth Vader Says

There was a lot of hype surrounding the Star Wars prequels when they first launched, as well as a lot of negative reception for the trilogy that fleshed out the fall of the Republic and the Jedi Order. These days, those films are more fondly remembered, something that Darth Vader believes is due to them having aged surprisingly well over the decades.

In an interview with Empire, actor Hayden Christensen explained that seeing the films receive more positive recognition from fans has been a vindicating moment for the actor.

"The journey that I’ve been on with Star Wars over the last 20-plus years--it's been a wild ride, and where we're at now is really meaningful to me," Christensen said. "I think that those movies have held up well over time. It feels like vindication for the work that we did. Everyone that worked on those movies thought that we were part of something special. We all wanted to do our very best work, and we cared a lot about it. And so to see the response from the fans now, it's very cool."Continue Reading at GameSpot

First Deadpool 3 Trailer Unleashes The Marvel Messiah On The MCU

First Deadpool 3 Trailer Unleashes The Marvel Messiah On The MCU

There's only one Marvel movie hitting theaters this year, but for fans of the regenerating degenerate Wade Wilson AKA Deadpool, it looks like this will be the comic book movie of the year. Fox's X-Men universe lives on in Deadpool 3--now formally titled Deadpool and Wolverine--setting the stage for the merc with a mouth to run riot across the Marvel Cinematic Universe alongside his best frenemy Wolverine.

Directed by Shawn Levy, this first trailer has a lot going on inside of it. The Time Variance Authority has plucked Deadpool out of his home dimension, setting him on a collision course with the MCU and Wolverine. Cue the music, soon-to-be-dead minions, at least one F-bomb, and a fourth wall break as Deadpool suits up for a rated-R adventure.

We're still not certain what the plot of Deadpool 3 is--or how Deadpool even got that atrocious wig glued to his head--but in typical comic book fashion, it looks like Wolverine won't be too happy to see the motor-mouthed mercenary when they first meet. Can the two of them coexist long enough not to have a healing factor contest? Probably not, but it looks like star Ryan Reynolds will be dropping bodies and one-liners aplenty when he teams up with Hugh Jackman's fan-favorite mutant berserker.Continue Reading at GameSpot

Diablo 4 Will Soon Let Players Craft Its Most Powerful Uber Unique Items

Diablo 4 Will Soon Let Players Craft Its Most Powerful Uber Unique Items

Diablo 4's most powerful Uber Unique items will soon be craftable come the game's next update.

Uber Uniques are the rarest items in Diablo 4, and for good reason; they are absurdly strong. While extremely rare, Uber Unique technically can drop just about anywhere players acquire endgame loot, but Blizzard recently took steps to make Uber Uniques a little more obtainable after some players questioned whether they even existed. In Season of Blood, Blizzard added the ability target farm Uber Uniques from a new endgame boss, Uber Duriel.

But farming up the materials to take on Uber Duriel over and over currently takes a good chunk of time and effort, and the rewards aren't always worth it. As Blizzard states in the official patch notes for the upcoming update 1.3.2, obtaining an Uber Unique should be a game-changing moment, but that feeling can turn to disappointment and "lessen that feeling of triumph" when a duplicate Uber Unique or one that isn't desirable for a given build drops, making all that time and effort essentially worthless.Continue Reading at GameSpot

GTA 6 Is Aiming For "Perfection," Take-Two Says

With Grand Theft Auto VI being one of the industry's most anticipated upcoming games, Take-Two Interactive, which owns GTA developer Rockstar, is aiming for perfection. In the company's latest earnings call, Take-Two acknowledged the excitement around the upcoming sequel, saying it would rather push for perfection than rush an anticipated game out to market.

During the call, Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick discussed the ongoing success of the Grand Theft Auto series, saying that excitement around the Grand Theft Auto 6 trailer release had a positive impact. "The Grand Theft Auto series is benefiting meaningfully from excitement surrounding Rockstar's announcement of Grand Theft Auto VI and the release of its first trailer," Zelnick said, adding some statistics around the trailer's record-breaking debut.

Zelnick elaborated on the popularity of the franchise during the Q&A section of the call, stating that "all things GTA lead to more excitement." When asked how the hype around GTA 6 compares to what the company saw with the GTA 5 launch in 2013, Zelnick said "our sense is that the anticipation is much higher. Disney CEO Responds To Gina Carano's Lawsuit With One Word

Disney CEO Responds To Gina Carano's Lawsuit With One Word

Former Mandalorian star and MMA fighter Gina Carano is suing Disney and Lucasfilm for discrimination and wrongful termination in a lawsuit. In the complaint, Carano alleges she was fired for voicing right-wing opinions on social media and seeks a court order that would force Lucasfilm to recast her as Cara Dune.

Twitter owner and CTO Elon Musk is helping fund the suit through the social media site as part of a promise he posted last August to help anyone who suffered employment discrimination because of what they posted or liked.

"A few months ago I received an email from a lawyer who had been hired by X to look into my story and many others," Carano tweeted out. "Turns out after sending them as much information as I could gather these past few months, my now lawyers and X believe whole-heartedly in my case and are moving forward. I would like to express my deepest gratitude and thank you to Elon Musk & X for giving me an opportunity to bring my case to light."Continue Reading at GameSpot

"Taylor Swift" AKA Saylor Twist Is A Robot-Killing Fighter In This Indie Shooter

Today in legally-distinct depictions of pop culture figures, indie shooter RoboSquad Revolution has introduced a new character called Saylor Twist to its game, who may or may not resemble a certain incredibly popular Grammy-winning, world-touring American pop star.

Miss Twist joins the cast of RoboSquad wearing her partner Trevon Celcius's number 87 jersey, along with a white beanie, and various robot parts to match the game's themeing. RoboSquad developer Zorans Resistance hasn't said whether Celcius might be added at some point to join Twist in game.

RoboSquad Revolution is a free-to-play arena shooter that launched last year into early access on Steam and the Epic Games Store. Players take on the role of a robot revolutionary, fighting against the human-led Zoran Task Force.Continue Reading at GameSpot

Final Fantasy 8's Director Would Make One Big Change To The Game If It Ever Got Remade

Final Fantasy 8's Director Would Make One Big Change To The Game If It Ever Got Remade

Twenty-five years later, a remake of Final Fantasy 8 looks unlikely, but that hasn't stopped the game's director from suggesting a big change to one of its defining features if Square Enix ever decided to resurrect it.

Speaking to IGN, Yoshinori Kitase explained that he'd rework Final Fantasy 8's Junction system in a remake, as he believed that it was a "difficult system" for people to understand at the time.

"I think you may remember we had the Junction system in Final Fantasy 8," Kitase said. "And the thing about that system was the enemies leveled up in line with what the player’s level was. And obviously you had to then use the Junction system and how you customize that to overcome the challenge there. And I think it was a very difficult system for some people to get into. Depending on player skills, sometimes they just didn't work out the best way of doing it. So I think I'd want to return to that and really rework the battle system on [Final Fantasy 8] and make it something where that level of difficulty and approachability for some fans was a lot better balanced. So I think that's the thing I'd look at most if I was going to look at remaking it."Continue Reading at GameSpot

Dune 2 Stars React To Movie's Viral Popcorn Bucket: "It's Not Okay"

Using the viral Dune: Part Two popcorn bucket seems out of the question for most of the movie's cast. In fact, Florence Pugh said "it's not okay" with a laugh when asked about the AMC Theaters collectible.

Speaking with ET, the Dune: Part Two cast reacted to the container that has a sandworm busting out of the top. Most of the stars shared a somewhat similar reaction to Josh Brolin, who reprises his role as Gurney Halleck. "I'm not going to stick my hand in there," Brolin said.

The actor also apparently won't hold anyone who uses the Dune: Part Two bucket in high regard. "If I see a bunch of people in the theater with one of those freaking buckets in their hand, I'm going to be like, "Okay, you're an idiot," he said with a chuckle.Continue Reading at GameSpot

Game Pass Dumps These Two Games Very Soon

It's a new month, and that means the Game Pass library is getting re-stocked and it's also losing a number of titles. Fans might be happy to know that, in the first half of February, only two titles are getting dumped from the Game Pass catalog on February 15.

These include Galactic Civilizations III on PC and Opus: Echo of Starsong for console, cloud, and PC. As usual, all Game Pass subscribers can save 20% on the outgoing games, so that's something of a silver lining for anyone who wants to keep playing.

Microsoft typically removes games from the Game Pass library across two waves, so fans should expect a second round of Game Pass cuts at the end of the month.Continue Reading at GameSpot

New PS5 Update Will Make Your Controller Louder And Your Console Dimmer

A new PS5 update is coming, and once it exits the beta part of testing, users can expect a few quality-of-life upgrades for their console. The big features in the next firmware update include several enhancements for the DualSense controller, as Sony aims to improve the speaker and microphone functionality.

According to Sony, the controller speakers will be capable of higher-volume sound for more clarity. Meanwhile, the built-in microphone is getting improved noise-cancellation features, courtesy of a new AI machine learning model. Sony says background noise from button presses and game audio will be suppressed once the update has been installed.

On the console itself, Sony is adding a new option to adjust the brightness of the PS5's power indicator. This is the bar strip that glows white when the console is switched on, and you'll be able to apply bright, medium, and dim settings. Sadly, you can't change the color to blue when you're playing games.Continue Reading at GameSpot

Here's What The Great Circle Is In The Indiana Jones Game

Lucasfilm and Machine Games are making an Indiana Jones game called Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, but what even is a Great Circle?

Game director Jerk Gustafsson said in a blog post that a "'great circle' is any circle that divides a sphere in half," and Earth's best-known one is the equator. These "great circles" are used in aviation for navigation purposes, he pointed out. There is a "very real and mysterious" great circle on Earth that connects many historical sites such as Giza, Easter Island, Sukhothai, Nazca, and more.

"Their connection has remained a mystery, and this provides the perfect adventure for our game," Gustafsson said.Continue Reading at GameSpot

Call Of Duty's Newest Finishing Move Is A Sight To Behold

Call of Duty's big Season 1 Reloaded update has arrived, and with it comes the game's newest finishing move. This one is especially wild.

The update introduced the latest crossover for the Amazon TV series The Boys. Specifically, a new Operator based on the character A-Train utilizes his incredible speed to spin his foe's head around again and again until it falls off. Another animation shows A-Train bashing his enemy's skull into the pavement in rapid succession. It is quite a sight to behold.

Thunderful Group, a company group that includes the developer behind SteamWorld Build, and publishers of a huge number of indie games, has announced a restructuring that will see around 20% off its staff laid off.

Samsung announced its new Galaxy S24 smartphone lineup during today's Samsung Unpacked livestream. The new line includes the Galaxy S24, S24 Plus, and S25 Ultra Android phones, all of which launch on January 31 and are available to preorder at Best Buy and Samsung.

While the three models differ in size, camera specs, and functionality, all three sport a set of similar features, including a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset with large vapor cooling--which should be great for gaming performance--as well as a collection of AI-powered capabilities. Samsung is pushing the AI features as the big draw of the S24 line, and all three phones will include "Circle to Search," which lets users draw a circle around an object in any image to search for it on Google, and even perform two-way live translations for text and phone calls. There's also a suite of AI-powered photo and video editing tools, including the ability to enhance video recorded at lower fps up to 120fps.

In addition to those features, Samsung also says it will support the new devices with OS generation updates and security patches for the next seven years, which is longer post-launch support than most smartphones usually get.Continue Reading at GameSpot

HBO's The Last Of Us Will Not Include More Frank And Bill

Recently, The Last of Us actor Nick Offerman said he pitched new ideas for how to further explore the lives of Frank and Bill. But now it's been revealed that Offerman was only joking and there are no plans to revisit Frank and Bill in Season 2, or ever.

Showrunner Craig Mazin told Deadline, "I'm very proud of the episode we did with Bill and Frank. There won't be more Bill and Frank."

Offerman played Bill in the "Long, Long Time" episode, which showed a flashback of how Bill met Frank (Murray Bartlett) and how they fell in love and eventually died together. Mazin wrote the episode, which was a fan-favorite in Season 1, prompting people to want to see more of Bill and Frank.Continue Reading at GameSpot

Sonic And Pikachu Nintendo Switch Handheld Controllers Get Rare Discounts

Sonic And Pikachu Nintendo Switch Handheld Controllers Get Rare Discounts

The Split Pad Pro and Split Pad Compact are two of our favorite Switch controllers. Offering larger grips than the standard Joy-Con, conventional D-pads, bigger sticks, and additional buttons--all while retaining the console's ability to be docked--they're great options for players who often find themselves gaming away from their TV. The two devices come in a variety of designs--and the Pikachu and Sonic variants are currently seeing rare discounts. The Sonic the Hedgehog-themed Split Pad Pro and Compact editions, in particular, are more often out of stock than on sale.

Hori Split Pad Compact (Pikachu & Mimikyu)

$49 (was $60)

As you'd expect, the Split Pad Compact is slightly more portable than the Split Pad Pro. It's still a full-sized controller with programmable rear buttons and turbo functionality, though its slimmed-down profile makes it easier to slip into a backpack or purse. This design features Pikachu and Mimikyu along with a muted yellow and blue color palette. It has two programmable back buttons. See at Amazon

Hori Split Pad Compact (Sonic the Hedgehog)

$54 (was $60)

This is the same as the controller above, though it features Sonic, Amy, Tails, and Knuckles on the front of the controllers. A 10% discount may not seem like much, but this is the lowest price we've ever seen for this version of the Split Pad Compact. See at Amazon

Hori Split Pad Pro (Sonic)

$55 (was $60)

The Split Pad Pro is bulkier than the two Compact models above, making it the perfect option for gamers with larger hands. Features include assignable rear triggers, turbo functionality, and face buttons that are responsive and clicky. It also boasts a sleek, Sonic-inspired design, with stylized blues and whites streaking across its front. This is the lowest price ever for the gamepad--so check it out soon if you're interested, as it doesn't go on sale often. See at Amazon

While Hori has long been the leader of Joy-Con alternatives with the Compact and Pro, the newly released Nitro Deck has quickly become a popular alternative. The U-shaped device is built with Hall Effect thumbsticks to prevent drift, passthrough charging, and the ability to customize its performance with a companion smartphone app. It's discounted to just $50 (down from $60), so be sure to give it a look.

Noah Hawley's Alien Show Is Dropping Prometheus Backstory Because It's Not 'Useful'

Noah Hawley's Alien Show Is Dropping Prometheus Backstory Because It's Not 'Useful'

When Ridley Scott released Prometheus, he made canon an element of the Alien series that fans had always speculated over. Prometheus and its sequel, Alien: Covenant, make it very clear that the alien that appeared in Scott's 1979 original was an engineered organism, created by through the combination of a mutagenic black goo made by the alien civilization dubbed the Engineers, and the work of the murderous artificially intelligent android named David (Michael Fassbender).

But the upcoming FX Alien TV series by Fargo and Legion creator Noah Hawley is taking a different approach to the lore of the xenomorph. That's despite the fact that Prometheus and Alien: Covenant are closer in the franchise timeline to the show, which is set 70 years in the future. (The original Alien is about 100 years in the future from today, with Aliens jumping an additional 57 years after that.)

On KCRW's The Business podcast, as the Hollywood Reporter explains, Hawley said the Prometheus conception of the Alien's origins were "not useful" to him in telling this new Alien story.Continue Reading at GameSpot

Square Enix Used AI Tools In Upcoming Shooter Foamstars

Square Enix has confirmed it used AI tools in its upcoming Splatoon-like shooter, Foamstars.

In a new interview, VGC asked Foamstars producer Kosuke Okatani if the game used AI for any parts of it. Okatani confirmed that the game used the generative AI tool, Midjourney, to generate in-game album art cover icons for its music tracks. However, Okatani clarified that the large majority of Foamstars was developed normally and that AI-generated assets only made up of 0.01% of the total content.

“All of the core elements in Foamstars--the core gameplay, and the things that make the game enjoyable--those are all made by hand,” he Okatani explained. “However, we did want to experiment with AI as well."Continue Reading at GameSpot
