Call Of Duty's Ricochet Anti-Cheat Launches Globally For Warzone On PC

Ricochet, the new anti-cheat protocol announced by Activision for its Call of Duty games, has been released globally for Call of Duty: Warzone on the PC. The software was first tested in the Asia-Pacific region, where the team behind the program were able to stabilize the software and gain data on how cheaters cheat. From there, updates were made in order to release it on PC to everyone playing Warzone. The global launch of the RICOCHET Anti-Cheat kernel-level driver on PC is the next stage of our expanding security efforts. Combating unfair play will be a continuous effort, but a battle we are dedicated to fighting. Full update from #TeamRICOCHET: https://t.co/GOgffPHmQR pic.twitter.com/TaFt1KZncD — Call of Duty (@CallofDuty) December 15, 2021 "The PC kernel-level driver for Ricochet Anti-Cheat is one element of a multi-faceted anti-cheat security initiative," the official blog post reads, "which also includes game monitoring, server-security updates, account authentication updates, and more."Continue Reading at GameSpot

Sea Of Stars, New Game Set In Messenger Universe, Coming Next Holiday

Sea Of Stars, New Game Set In Messenger Universe, Coming Next Holiday

The Messenger developer Sabotage Studio showed off more of its next game at Nintendo's Indie World presentation today. Sea of Stars is another game set in the Messenger universe, but it looks like it will play very differently than the Ninja Gaiden-inspired action game. The presentation showed off turn-based combat and free overworld traversal with an isometric perspective. It still looks very retro, with a Chrono Trigger-like color palette. That likely isn't a coincidence, as the presentation also noted that Chrono Trigger composer Yasunori Mitsuda composed some of the music in the new game. The story revolves around two children of the solstice, a lunar monk and a solar blade dancer. The two use eclipse magic to defeat monsters summoned by the Fleshmancer. This serves as a story prequel to The Messenger, which already established a wild time-travel plot.Continue Reading at GameSpot

How To Kill Harriet In Deathloop: Chaos Theory Guide

How To Kill Harriet In Deathloop: Chaos Theory Guide

In Deathloop, you'll want to take out all seven Visionaries in one loop to see the story through to its dramatic conclusion. In the best possible playthrough, Harriet will be the first Visionary you take out if you're trying to round them all up efficiently. But the path to get to her can be complicated, like a lot of Deathloop. Here's how to kill Harriet by way of the Chaos Theory story mission. Deathloop: How to kill Harriet Harriet is a unique target in Arkane's murder sandbox, because she seemingly can't be moved from her headquarters in Karl's Bay. It's there where she leads a small band of cult-like Eternalists, and like Jim Jones, she seems happy to distance herself from the rest of the world and maintain her power over her followers. Therefore, you'll need to get her in Karl's Bay, particularly during the morning. Harriet's refusal to move much at all makes her predictable, but she's also dug into something like a fortress. At the far end of Karl's Bay, you'll find two large hangars, numbered 1 and 2 on their sides. Harriet will always be found in the hangar numbered 2. You can infiltrate this hangar in a number of ways, in traditional Arkane style.Continue Reading at GameSpot

Sweet Tooth Showrunner Jim Mickle Teams With Donny Cates For God Country Netflix Film

Sweet Tooth Showrunner Jim Mickle Teams With Donny Cates For God Country Netflix Film

Netflix will join forces with Legendary and Sweet Tooth showrunner/co-creator Jim Mickle for a feature-length adaptation of Donny Cates's comic series God Country, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The partnerships make sense as Mickle has had success adapting his own comics into another medium for Netflix--after Season 1 of Sweet Tooth premiered in June, it was renewed for Season 2 only a month later. Thematically, God Country has some parallels to Sweet Tooth, as they're both personal tales set in the aftermath of a widespread disaster. Mickle is set to direct and co-write the script with Cates. God Country's main character is Emmet Quinlan, an old widower with dementia whose illness mysteriously disappears after a tornado levels his home and the surrounding West Texas Town. According to the comics' official synopsis, Quinlan emerges after the storm with an "enchanted sword… [that] gives him more than a sound mind and body… [and is] the only man who can face the otherworldly creatures the sword has drawn to the Lone Star State."Continue Reading at GameSpot

Everything Everywhere All At Once Trailer Unlocks Portal To Other Dimensions In An Accountant's Office

A24 has released the first official trailer for Everything Everywhere All At Once, which will be in theaters on March 25, 2022. Written and directed by the filmmaking duo of Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert--who together also pulled double-duty on 2016's Swiss Army Man--the film is about "an aging Chinese immigrant [who] is swept up in an insane adventure, where she alone can save the world by exploring other universes connecting with the lives she could have lived." That brief synopsis only hints at the vivid awesome fever dreams that this movie looks to explore with style and humor. Check out the trailer for the "interdimensional action film" below, and see for yourself. Everything Everywhere All At Once's cast includes Michelle Yeoh, Stephanie Hsu, Ke Huy Quan, Jenny Slate, Harry Shum Jr., James Hong, and Jamie Lee Curtis. Yeoh stars as "an exhausted Chinese-American woman who can't seem to finish her taxes," and the trailer opens with an almost unrecognizable Curtis as a villainous bureaucrat sending the former sailing on an office chair into untold alternate dimensions. Things only get weirder and weirder from there.Continue Reading at GameSpot

Star Wars Holiday Special Gets Remastered Fanmade Trailer In 4K, It's Still Cheesy

Star Wars Holiday Special Gets Remastered Fanmade Trailer In 4K, It's Still Cheesy

San Francisco-based illustrator and concept artist Nick Acosta has given the internet an incredible gift in the form of a 4K 60FPS remastered trailer for the Star Wars Holiday Special. Some say you simply cannot be basing your opinion of the divisive film on that scratchy old bootleg VHS copy you have laying around--you must witness it with the best modern technology has to offer. Upon release, the 1978 disco-era Star Wars Holiday Special was universally panned by critics and fans, and it's never been hard to understand why: There are agonizingly long segments in the misshapen variety show where Wookiees speak to each other in their native language with no subtitles, what plot there is makes no literal sense, and one of the highlights is Bea Arthur's turn as Mos Eisley cantina proprietor Ackmena singing "Good Night, But Not Goodbye" set to the "cantina band" song. On Twitter, Acosta clarified that he didn't--yet--remaster the whole movie but judiciously chose a few spots to up-res because "a 5 [minute] clip takes about 12 hours to upscale to 4K." Check it out below. The original special has had a lengthy road to something resembling redemption. Slowly, elements of the special have been acknowledged as canon--notably in The Mandalorian's Jawa-disappearing Amban phase-pulse rifle (wielded by Boba Fett in a holiday special's trippy animated sequence) and also explicit references to Life Day, the fictional holiday at the center of the original Star Wars Holiday Special. In 2020, Disney+ released The Lego Star Wars Holiday Special, which "brings beloved heroes like Rey, Finn, and Poe Dameron back together to celebrate Life Day."Continue Reading at GameSpot

Minecraft's Master Chief Mash-up Has Returned

The pack has now been updated with eight new skins--including three different versions of Master Chief. The new skins are themed after characters from Halo Infinite, including Commander Laurette Agryna, War Chief Escharum, Blademaster Jega ‘Rdomnai, the Pelican Echo-216 Pilot, and a YOROI Spartan, as well as the aforementioned Master Chief skins. Gotham Knights Series In The Works At The CW

Gotham Knights Series In The Works At The CW

The CW is still looking for more DC stories to mine. The latest is a series called Gotham Knights, helmed by three Batwoman writers, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Batwoman writers Natalie Abrams, Chad Fiveash, and James Stoteraux are developing Gotham Knights. The network's synopsis for the show gives us a hint of what's to come: In the wake of Bruce Wayne’s murder, his rebellious adopted son forges an unlikely alliance with the children of Batman’s enemies when they are all framed for killing the Caped Crusader. And as the city’s most wanted criminals, this renegade band of misfits must fight to clear their names. But in a Gotham with no Dark Knight to protect it, the city descends into the most dangerous it’s ever been. However, hope comes from the most unexpected of places as this team of mismatched fugitives will become its next generation of saviors. According to THR, this show is neither a Batwoman spinoff nor is it related to the Gotham Knights game currently in the works at Warner Bros. Games, which also is set in a post-Batman Gotham City and follows a team lead by one of Batman's adopted sons.Continue Reading at GameSpot

The 5 Best Nintendo Switch Exclusive Games Of 2021

The Nintendo Switch may have been the old guy in the room this year when compared to the PS5 and Xbox Series X, but the Switch arguably stole the show when it came to exclusive games in 2021. The Switch is approaching its fifth birthday, and Nintendo has shown no signs of slowing down on its avalanche of games you can only play on the hybrid console. Some of Nintendo's most storied franchises received new games this year for Switch. Perhaps most notably, 2021 saw the return of side-scrolling Metroid in Metroid Dread. Nintendo also revitalized one of the best Pokemon spin-offs in New Pokemon Snap. The trip down memory lane for the Pokemon series continued this fall with the release of Pokemon Shining Pearl and Brilliant Diamond, lovely remakes of the Generation 4 games that were originally released on Nintendo DS. Of course, Nintendo's most iconic mascot jumped in on the fun, too. Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury brought one of the best Wii U games to Switch and added a wonderful new campaign that showed off how Mario in a larger open-world setting could work. The plumber also picked up a golf club again in Mario Golf: Super Rush, a new high-energy entry in the Mario sports game catalog.Continue Reading at GameSpot

Halo Infinite Gets Slayer-Only Playlist Starting December 14

Halo Infinite Gets Slayer-Only Playlist Starting December 14

If you're like most people, when you start up Halo Infinite's multiplayer and hit the "quick play" button, you're hoping for one thing: Slayer mode. Thus far, all four-on-four modes have been lumped together, but that's about to change with tomorrow's playlist update. At long last, you don't have to play Oddball four times in a row. As shared on Reddit and Twitter, 343 Industries adjusted its update plans in response to players' feedback. Instead of waiting to release a larger Slayer-focused update after the holidays, the team will have a basic Slayer playlist ready for tomorrow, December 14. You'll be able to choose from standard Slayer, free-for-all, Fiesta Slayer, and Tactical Slayer. Only two of those were in the game already, and of those two, only standard Slayer has remained as a permanent part of the quick play rotation. You wanted some playlist updates? We've got some coming next week!!! pic.twitter.com/zYjEme7lMW — Postums (@343Postums) December 11, 2021 The update doesn't stop there, however. It will also remove some of the most-specific challenges to make the battle pass less frustrating, as well as adjust the requirements for other challenges--including the weekly challenge, which is currently a pretty annoying one to finish. There will also be new challenges for the added playlists, as well as a challenge category based on accumulated player-score that 343 says is a "small initial step" toward XP based on overall performance. Final Fantasy VII Remake PC Requirements Released Ahead Of Launch

Final Fantasy VII Remake PC Requirements Released Ahead Of Launch

Final Fantasy VII Remake is making its way to PC, with the Intergrade version including both the base game and the additional Intermission DLC. It's a visual stunner that might not need as much graphical horsepower behind it according to the official specifications. Square Enix doesn't make it clear what performance to expect from both its minimum and recommended PC requirements for the game, but at the very least you can rest assured you won't need something cutting-edge to get things running. And Nvidia GTX 780 is over eight years old at this point, while both the Intel Core i5-3330 and AMD FX-8350 are even older. What you will need is a lot of hard drive space, with Final Fantasy VII Remake commanding a full 100GB on PC regardless of the settings you use. You can expect an SSD to speed up loading times and visual pop-in, too, so only resort to an older HDD if you don't have another choice.Continue Reading at GameSpot

Sony has officially announced a new series of PS5 console covers priced at $55, which will come in Nova Pink, Starlight Blue, and Galactic Purple color schemes. Simply pop the current white cover off, click the new one of your choice into place, and you'll be good to go. Scorn Sets An October 2022 Release Date For Its Biological Horror Adventure

Ebb Software's Scorn, an upcoming first-person horror game with some highly suggestive imagery, now has a release date of October 2022 for its PC and Xbox Series X|S launch. The announcement came from the studio's Kickstarter page and was confirmed in a new trailer which you can see below. In another update on its Kickstarter, Ebb Software's CEO Ljubomir Peklar said, "December has been a pretty huge month for us at Ebb Software. Not only have we been able to share our new release date, but we've also reached a significant milestone in our development, 75% content completion! I'd just like to give my deepest thanks to our community for your patience and our team here at Ebb who have been working incredibly hard to pull everything together." The studio plans to spend the rest of 2022 completing the final 25% of the game's content, polishing the gameplay, and ironing out any lingering bugs. In case you missed it when it was originally revealed, Scorn looks and plays like a fusion of BioShock and HR Giger art, although the studio has mentioned in previous interviews that different art forms from painting, sculpture, architecture, and music have played an influential role in the game's design.Continue Reading at GameSpot

Sniper Elite 5 Takes The War To France, Launching In 2022

Sniper Elite 5 Takes The War To France, Launching In 2022

Developer Rebellion Entertainment has revealed Sniper Elite 5, the next chapter in its World War 2 marksmanship series. Once again starring sniper Karl Fairburne--who's now sporting a trendy tactical turtleneck--Sniper Elite 5 moves the action from the Italian front to behind enemy lines in France circa 1944. Fairburne has been tasked with investigating and destroying Operation Kraken, a secret Nazi project that threatens to end the war before the Allies can even invade Europe. In typical Sniper Elite style, this means that you can expect a lot of Nazi heads and various other vital organs to be gruesomely shredded, with the game regularly slowing down to provide a kill-cam view inside of every unlucky soldier that walks into Fairburne's line of sight. According to Rebellion, some of the new features of Sniper Elite 5 include real-world locations from France in 1944, a new traversal system that includes ziplines and shimmying along edges, and new multiplayer options. You'll be able to play the game in co-op with a friend, which allows a team to share ammo and items, give orders, and heal each other. On a more adversarial note, you can invade another player’s campaign as an Axis sniper for a game of cat and mouse.Continue Reading at GameSpot

I Have Misgivings About Forspoken And Its Protagonist

I Have Misgivings About Forspoken And Its Protagonist

My first impression of Forspoken upon watching its reveal trailer was genuine glee. Seeing a Japanese-developed role-playing game with a dark-skinned person of color as the main protagonist is rare. Seeing such a game starring a Black woman is exceptionally rare. Learning later that a vast majority of the principal cast are women is practically unheard of. So I went into this latest hands-off press preview of Forspoken with hopeful expectations. And, at first, it seemed like developer Luminous Productions and publisher Square Enix knew their stuff. Going into this game, Forspoken creative producer Raio Mitsuno wanted this to be an experience that primarily featured a female cast and starred a protagonist that broke free of conventional fantasy hero tropes--everything else about the game was built around that concept "from the beginning of the project." "That was really one of the core concepts that we had from the very beginning of the game--we wanted to create a world with a bunch of strong female characters, and we wanted a world of magic," Mitsuno told me. "And we wanted to use those as our pillars when we started the project. We were impressed with the increasing number of female leads in the industry, but we wanted to really take it a step further and go with a female-centric world. We also wanted--with our main character Frey--to portray a character who was really down-to-earth and a realistic portrayal of a modern-day young woman, who just so happens to then get thrown into this world with a bunch of powerful women, a sort of matriarchal society."Continue Reading at GameSpot

The Best PC Exclusive Games Of 2021

New gaming consoles come and go every few years, but PC gaming endures with some of the best hardware and software that's exclusive to that platform. This year was no exception, as PC gamers had access to imaginative and genre-bending titles, games that pushed the flexible nature of those systems in wild new directions. While PC gaming shared many a hit game with its console brethren, for this list we're looking at the games that could only be found on this platform...with one exception. That means no Resident Evil Village and its incredibly tall ladies, no Deathloop and its masterful approach to Groundhog Day gunplay, and no Halo Infinite reviving the beloved FPS franchise. For a look at those, check out GameSpot's Top 10 Games of 2021. In this list, it's the efforts of small studios and indie developers that took the top spots, bringing about an exciting selection of games in 2021.Continue Reading at GameSpot

Best Live-Service Games Of 2021

Best Live-Service Games Of 2021

We live in an age where some games just keep on going, with post-launch roadmaps advertising months or years of future content. Hate 'em or love 'em, live-service games are here to stay (that's kind of their whole shtick). In 2021, five live-service games stood out above the rest, implementing substantial improvements to their existing formula or finding new ways to tell ever-expanding stories. Below, we list those five games and detail what it is about them that impressed us so much this year. These games aren't listed in order of best to worse or vice versa; we've simply put them in alphabetical order. They're all wonderful examples of how live-service games can be sustained over time, each accomplishing excellence in their own way. From Respawn Entertainment's Apex Legends to Bungie's Destiny 2, and more, these are GameSpot's best live-service games of 2021. Apex Legends Apex Legends continued to be a dominant force in the battle royale space in 2021. The year saw developer Respawn release four new seasons, four new playable characters, four new weapons, a new mode, new maps, and a whole host of balancing adjustments and changes. Plus, Apex Legends finally made its way to Switch--it's definitely not the ideal way to play, but it works. The new mode, Arenas, is certainly the highlight for Apex Legends' year, expanding the game outside the battle royale space with an excellent mode that resembles Valorant.Continue Reading at GameSpot

Call Of Duty: Warzone All Bunker Locations In Caldera

Call Of Duty: Warzone All Bunker Locations In Caldera

Call of Duty: Warzone's new Pacific-themed Caldera map launched on December 8, and while there doesn't seem to be any Easter eggs activated yet, there are plenty of places on the island to keep an eye on as seasons progress. Much like Modern Warfare's Warzone Easter egg quest with the large military bunkers, Caldera has a secret bunker of its own. This door is also styled exactly like the original bunkers on Verdansk, and it appears to be the only bunker on the map that matches the styling of Verdansk. At this time, there doesn't seem to be any keycards dropping, which is what led to the original Verdansk bunkers to open. Additionally, you can also find several circular bunker hatches all around the island. These hatches are likely to open at some point, as they match the hatch design of the bunker Captain Butcher teased in a previous Season 1 story trailer for Caldera. The cinematic showed Butcher's plane crash-landed on the island coast, where he discovered a hatch on the beach. He opened the hatch and headed inside the Nazi bunker, saying "the world would never be ready for what I found."Continue Reading at GameSpot

Sony Now Owns Patent For Death Stranding's Path-Building Feature

Sony Now Owns Patent For Death Stranding's Path-Building Feature

Sony just patented a collaborative path-building feature that appears to be the one from Death Stranding. The patent (via NME), titled "Terrain radar and gradual building of a route in a virtual environment of a video game," credits Hideo Kojima as the inventor and describes many familiar features from the game such as the ability to see and traverse other players' paths. In the summary, it delves into further detail on the mentioned "method for influencing a gaming world of a video game." Patented methods include identifying which paths have been used, improving paths based on the number of players that have used them, and so on. Death Stranding enabled porters to identify routes that other players had plotted and interact with them. Despite the relevance to Kojima's latest masterpiece, the document doesn't name drop the game anywhere in the text. The patent could mean that Sony and Kojima could have more in mind for Death Stranding. However, it's hard to tell considering that the patent application was filed even before the game was released. Sony submitted the application for the patent back in 2019, but it was only recently approved on December 7, 2021. At the very least, it looks like developers won't be able to use any of the specifically described features used in the game's path-building technique without risking legal action from Sony.Continue Reading at GameSpot

How to Sell Cars In GTA Online

How to Sell Cars In GTA Online

Since the dawn of Grand Theft Auto, flipping whips has been a key part of the game series' DNA. It's kind of in the name… which is why prolific GTA Online players may be wondering if and how they can sell cars in Rockstar's monster open-world MMO. In this guide, we're going to show you how to steal and sell cars in GTA Online, and walk you through how you can make even more money by selling the vehicles you already own. How to steal cars in GTA Online If you've played even a few minutes of any historic Grand Theft Auto game you will likely be familiar with this mechanic. To steal a car in Grand Theft Auto Online, you simply have to press Y on Xbox, F on PC, or Triangle on PlayStation. This will prompt the player to pull the driver out of their seat, sit in the empty driver's seat, or sit in the passenger side and hotwire the car so it can be stolen. You can do this with any car that you see in the open world that is driven or owned by a civilian. Just bear in mind that while it would be extremely fun, you can't sell cars that other players have spent their hard-earned Shark Cards on, so don't bother trying to steal those. In choosing a car to steal, the golden rule is that the more high-end it looks, the better. There's a whole range of sale prices from less than $1,000 to more than $10,000, and it will all depend on the quality of the car. What this means is that flipping vehicles in GTA Online is not really a viable money-making tactic; it's just something you can do dynamically in the open world if you need a quick little bump of cash.Continue Reading at GameSpot

While Wattson's Energy Reader is wielded as a kind of taser-style melee weapon, it's designed to look like a tool, with a small screen showing a movement-tracking radar display that is unfortunately just aesthetic. While some fans aren't a fan of the Heirloom's utilitarian design, the weapon seems to call back to pop culture icons like the motion tracker from Aliens, or Ghostbusters' P.K.E. Meter. What's more, the Heirloom suggests Wattson might be a gamer herself, with a couple of the item's animations showing her playing games on the screen. A video by YouTuber Dazs shows all the possible animations for the weapon, including one that shows Wattson cuddling with a large-sized Nessie plush.Continue Reading at GameSpot

Call Of Duty: Warzone's Shift To The Pacific Is An Upgrade From Verdansk

Call Of Duty: Warzone's Shift To The Pacific Is An Upgrade From Verdansk

Call of Duty's new Warzone Pacific map Caldera is now available with the launch of Vanguard's Season 1. The shift to the Pacific World War II setting is a refreshing change while retaining the best parts of the game to ensure it still feels like you're playing Warzone. A new look for Warzone The trip to Caldera's Pacific island setting brings a much-needed change of scenery after the nearly two years of Verdansk's drab colors. It's a map that is really easy on the eyes. And the setting isn't just great visually because it's a tropical and lush environment, but also the lighting has better balance in Caldera. Even the interior settings have much better lighting than the shadowy corners of Verdansk's buildings. Verdansk never seemed to find good light balance. Sometimes the map looked really washed out, especially after the Black Ops Cold War integration, while some areas had sunlight that was just too bright. Interior buildings could often suffer from visibility issues from having too many dark areas. The buildings all seem well-lit in Caldera. The island has a lot of open space and obviously lacks some of the dense and high-scale city structures of Verdansk, but there is decent cover around most points of interest. And there is still opportunity for verticality in gunfights, especially in areas like Mining and the volcano peak, which have various elevations to fight from.Continue Reading at GameSpot

Halo Infinite Dev Hopes The Game Helps Lift Your Spirits During The Pandemic

Halo Infinite is finally here. After years of development and a lengthy delay, Microsoft's first new mainline Halo game since 2015 is out today across Xbox, PC, and the cloud. Halo Infinite head of creative, Joseph Staten, released a statement celebrating the game's launch and commenting on the environment into which it's releasing. "... this game is launching at an incredibly tough time," Staten said. "The COVID-19 pandemic has profoundly disrupted families and friendships. It has radically altered the way we work and collaborate as well as how we interact with each other on a fundamental human level. And honestly, some days, it's been hard to see the light at the end of the tunnel." Staten said it is his hope that Master Chief's story in Halo Infinite helps lift your spirits and that it makes you "smile and cheer." Continue Reading at GameSpot

Apex Legends Raider Collection Event Is Live Now: Full Patch Notes

Apex Legends Raider Collection Event Is Live Now: Full Patch Notes

The latest patch for Apex Legends is here, and while there aren't a whole lot of major balance changes, the game's latest update does usher in a new collection event, the return of the Winter Express game mode, a new custom reticle color system, and a fancy new heirloom for Wattson. Leading the charge when it comes to balance changes is adjustments to Arc Stars. As Respawn explains in the patch notes, the throwable weapon excels in a lot of areas currently, dealing high damage as well as dishing out a significant slow to enemies caught in the blast. Damage dealt by Arc Stars is being reduced, the shield damage multiplier done by the weapon is being increased, and sticking an enemy with the star will once again apply a slow debuff. The duration of the slow for non-sticks is now determined by distance from the center of the Arc Star's detonation as well.Continue Reading at GameSpot

Destiny 2 Servers Going Down For Maintenance Before New Update Adds Anniversary Content

It's a big day for Destiny 2, as following a slower month for the game, Bungie plans to release a major content drop. This centers around the Bungie 30th Anniversary Pack, but before players can dive into everything that's new, they'll first be faced with a period of server maintenance that will take servers down, followed by the release of the new update. [Update: The patch is now live to download; on Xbox, it's a 4.19 GB file. We also have the full Destiny 2 3.4.0 update patch notes, and they are long, so buckle in.] Server maintenance will begin at 8 AM PT / 11 AM ET. The game will go offline at 8:45 AM PT, at which point you'll be booted from any activities you're in, so make sure you wrap up what you're doing in advance, whether you're finishing a weekly task or hitting up Xur. You won't be able to log back in until 9 AM, although maintenance is expected to continue until 10 AM, so there might be issues playing before then. Update 3.4.0 will start rolling out at 9 AM, so expect to see a download pop up around then. Full patch notes haven't yet been released--those are expected today--but Bungie has been previewing the extensive list of changes they'll bring to Supers, weapons, abilities, and more.Continue Reading at GameSpot

Grid Legends' Story Features Live-Action Cutscenes To Better Tell The Devs' Vision, Says Director

Grid Legends' Story Features Live-Action Cutscenes To Better Tell The Devs' Vision, Says Director

Grid Legends is the next entry in the racing game franchise, and it's shifting into a new gear by introducing a story mode. Called Driven to Glory, this story mode sees you take on the role of Driver 22, an underdog trying to make it in the racing scene. Taking inspiration from Netflix's Drive to Survive, Driven to Glory plays out as a documentary-style narrative, incorporating live-action actors as opposed to animated characters. "Story couldn't be in there as a token element," Grid Legends creative director Chris Smith said during a preview event. In order to ensure Grid Legends' story was worthwhile, developer Codemasters established early on that the game's narrative was one of the core pillars of the project. "The story is the mode that we want everyone to play," Smith said. "Of course, we want you to play all the content, but we hope you first experience the story."Continue Reading at GameSpot

Halo Infinite Boss Explains What Went Wrong With The 2020 Campaign Demo

Halo Infinite Boss Explains What Went Wrong With The 2020 Campaign Demo

The head of Halo developer 343 Industries has shed new light on the poorly received July 2020 Halo Infinite campaign demo, explaining what went wrong and why. Because developers were mostly working from home at the time due to the pandemic, not everyone working on the game saw the same picture quality for the demo, which was known internally as Ascension. Some people working on the game raised concerns, but ultimately Microsoft moved ahead--and this was a misstep, Ross said. It did lead to the Craig the Brute meme, but overall it was a bad showing for Halo Infinite, she explained. "I do want to say there were multiple people on the team pointing out, 'Hey, I think this is wrong.' But we're all looking at it at home on whatever monitor with whatever color grading that we have," Ross told GameSpot sister site CNET. "And that was a huge wakeup call for us." This helped 343 realize that there is real value in having developers physically in the same room, looking at the same screen.Continue Reading at GameSpot

Ghostbusters: Afterlife Sheds New Light On An Old Franchise

Ghostbusters: Afterlife Sheds New Light On An Old Franchise

With Ghostbusters: Afterlife hitting theaters, the franchise is getting a fresh coat of paint as it attempts to endear itself to a new generation of fans. Unlike 2016's Ghostbusters: Answer the Call, Afterlife is going after a younger audience. And while it still makes sure to touch on the hits that longtime fans will be looking for, they aren't necessarily the original targets. Instead, new characters are introduced and become the avatars for an audience not raised on a steady diet of the first two films. The end result is a look at a decades-old franchise through a fresh set of eyes that can hopefully continue on in future films. "For a new audience, the characters who are carrying us on this adventure are just like them in a process of discovery,' co-writer Gil Kenan told GameSpot. "And so I think, as long as we had Phoebe and Trevor and Podcast and Lucky to tell this story with, that we felt like this was not a mechanical process of balancing, past and present and future, but a sort of organic narrative storytelling process."Continue Reading at GameSpot

Spider-Man: No Way Home's Script Was Rewritten While Filming

Spider-Man: No Way Home's Script Was Rewritten While Filming

Actor Tom Holland has revealed in a new GQ interview that Spider-Man: No Way Home was being rewritten while shooting. "You could ask the director [Jon Watts], 'What happens in act three?'" said Holland. "His response would be, 'I'm still trying to figure it out'." Holland then further elaborated--though offered few details--about a "crescendo scene" that "wasn't working." Holland and Watts sidebarred and agreed the scene "was wrong." The pair "sat down...and we came up with a new idea." Although fans have been lighting up social media with concern over this detail, the reality is scripts frequently change from initial development all the way up to post-production. It doesn't necessarily mean anything one way or the other ultimately for the story or how the film might land with critics. Either way, fans won't have to wait much longer to see the movie and decide for themselves--Spider-Man: No Way Home premieres in theaters on December 17.Continue Reading at GameSpot

Halo Infinite's Ping System Makes A Strong Case For Getting An Elite Controller

Halo Infinite's Ping System Makes A Strong Case For Getting An Elite Controller

Halo Infinite's multiplayer beta has arrived to steal the thunder from the likes of Call of Duty: Vanguard and Battlefield 2042, and so far, it seems to be doing just that. But that's not to say the surprise launch has been without issues. On top of a battle pass that has frustrated a sizable portion of the fanbase, Halo Infinite has another issue: its ping button just doesn't fit on a standard Xbox controller. Ironically, the series famous for revolutionizing first-person shooters on a game controller now struggles to adequately make room for an innovation that the genre introduced in the years since that revolution. In all, Halo Infinite is a great game, but it kind of feels like I'll need a fancier controller to play it right. The ping function, called “mark” in Halo Infinite, was popularized in competitive FPS games with Apex Legends, and is today a ubiquitous FPS mechanic that lets players call out things of interest using a visual marker that appears on their allies' screens. With it, you can spot vehicles, loot, and more. Most importantly, it can point out the location of enemies, alerting your teammates to dangers both near and far. Halo Infinite thankfully has a ping button, but it's in the wrong spot on the controller. Halo Infinite also features several control schemes as well as complete controller remapping, but no 343-offered scheme nor yet-discovered custom remap resolves the issue of where the ping button goes. On a standard Xbox controller, there are just too few buttons to fit everything and the ping gets left behind as a result.Continue Reading at GameSpot

Read more: >> https://t.co/xeNPof6Xo7 pic.twitter.com/M52Xs2XYqC — Victura (@VicturaGG) November 17, 2021 In a post on the game's website, Peter Tamte, CEO of the game's publisher, Victura, said the game was delayed because the team doesn't have the resources to properly tell its stories. "It became clear that recreating these true stories at a high quality was going to require more people, capital, and time than we had," Tamte said. "Doubling our team is just one of the many things we're doing to make sure Six Days in Fallujah brings new kinds of tactical and emotional depth to military shooters." The game, which is being developed "with help from more than 100 Marines, Soldiers, and Iraqi civilians," sparked controversy earlier this year when Tamte said that the game is "not trying to make a political commentary." That statement was later walked back through a Twitter post from Victura, which said that the game was instead "inseparable from politics."Continue Reading at GameSpot

Spider-Man: No Way Home's New Trailer Showcases Old Villains And A New Mission

Spider-Man: No Way Home's New Trailer Showcases Old Villains And A New Mission

Sony Pictures Entertainment has released a new trailer for Spider-Man: No Way Home during a special fan event. The clip comes on the heels of a new poster for the upcoming December 17 movie, which was released on Monday. This new clip features all the villains we've seen hinted at so far, with Doctor Octopus figuring heavily into the trailer. It's also a good excuse to revisit the previous trailer released in August, which was packed with a lot hinting and teasing at the movie's ambitions. In addition getting eyes on all these returning villains, we now have some idea of what Peter's fight is; these villains aren't supposed to be in this Spidey's universe, and are, according to Doctor Strange, destined to die. If you know Peter Parker, you know he is absolutely not down for that. Doc Ock also makes it clear that the MCU's Peter Parker does not look like his Peter Parker. Even so, we see neither web nor emblem of either Tobey Maguire or Andrew Garfield in this trailer. If they are in Spider-Man: No Way Home, the reveal doesn't happen here. Tom Hardy's Venom, who popped up in Spidey's world at the end of Venom: Let There Be Carnage, is also nowhere to be seen. Check out the clip for yourself below, and enjoy taking it all in.Continue Reading at GameSpot

Does Halo Infinite Have Split-Screen? It's Complicated

Does Halo Infinite Have Split-Screen? It's Complicated

With the surprise launch of Halo Infinite on November 15, players everywhere are asking a pressing--and for many, nostalgic--question: Does Halo Infinite have split-screen? The answer, as it turns out, is a bit more complicated than you'd expect. Officially, Halo Infinite does not have split-screen multiplayer yet, at least not right now, and a previously convoluted workaround no longer seems to help out. Having said that, split-screen multiplayer is planned for the future. Here's what we know so far. When is split-screen coming to Halo Infinite? If you're looking for some split-screen action in Halo Infinite, you're out of luck right now. Depending on what kind of split-screen play you're looking for, your wait may be further off than other players, though no one outside of the development team has much of a launch window in mind anyway. For split-screen multiplayer, 343 Industries did previously confirm that Halo Infinite will feature local multiplayer, and its current store listing confirms these plans, as the game is said to be playable for 2-24 players on a local network, just as it is online.Continue Reading at GameSpot

Report Alleges Activision Blizzard CEO Bobby Kotick Hid Knowledge Of Misconduct

A new report from the Wall Street Journal paints a very different picture of Activision Blizzard boss Bobby Kotick than the executive has made for himself, alleging Kotick had knowledge of many sexual assault and harassment claims at his studios. Additionally, the report said Kotick did not notify the company's board of directors after it reached an out-of-court settlement with an employee who accused a former supervisor of rape. Documents including memos and emails shown to the Wall Street Journal reportedly indicate Kotick's knowledge of other accusations made against employees within Activision Blizzard. They also suggest that employees forced out for allegations were still publicly praised and coworkers were asked to not speak out. The report also alleges that Kotick threatened to kill an assistant over voicemail in 2006, which an Activision spokesperson said was in jest. It said he, not Activision Blizzard executive and former Bush administration official Frances Townsend, was responsible for drafting a statement on the ongoing harassment and culture investigation that Kotick himself later called "tone-deaf." The internal statement had been attributed to Townsend.Continue Reading at GameSpot
