New Predator Prequel Prey Teaser Drops Before August 5 Hulu Release

New Predator Prequel Prey Teaser Drops Before August 5 Hulu Release

20th Century Studios has dropped a new teaser trailer for the upcoming movie Prey, a Predator movie sequel continuing the long-running survival-action franchise. The movie comes exclusively to Hulu on August 5. The new clip clocks in at just under 45 seconds, but clearly shows the fifth installment in the franchise will be more in the style of the horror vibes of the 1987 original and now taking cues from Shane Black's 2018 comedy take on the lore. A synopsis reads: "Set in the Comanche Nation 300 years ago, Prey is the story of a young woman, Naru, a fierce and highly skilled warrior. She has been raised in the shadow of some of the most legendary hunters who roam the Great Plains, so when danger threatens her camp, she sets out to protect her people. The prey she stalks, and ultimately confronts, turns out to be a highly evolved alien predator with a technically advanced arsenal, resulting in a vicious and terrifying showdown between the two adversaries." Indigenous actor Amber Midthunder (Legion) will play Naru. According to Disney, a character who wants to "prove her worth as a warrior [and] certainly gets her chance when she comes face-to-face with the most dangerous hunter of all time, the other-worldly predator." Based on the synopsis, it seems that this movie will also document the titular creature's journey to Earth.Continue Reading at GameSpot

Gears Of War Getting MCC-Style Collection - Report

Gears Of War Getting MCC-Style Collection - Report

Microsoft is developing a Halo: The Master Chief Collection-style compilation package themed around Gears of War, according to a new report. Nick Baker of Xbox Era revealed this on a podcast recently. "A while back I said there is another Microsoft franchise that's getting the Master Chief Collection-type treatment, I am of the belief that that is coming this year," Baker said (via VGC), adding that this will be Gears of War. The Master Chief Collection launched in 2014 on Xbox One, and it struggled mightily at launch with server issues and other problems. Developer 343 Industries has supported, grown, and evolved the game significantly since then, and it's now in great shape--even outperforming Halo Infinite on Steam. Continue Reading at GameSpot

Netflix Geeked Week Announced, Cyberpunk Anime To Be Featured

Netflix Geeked Week Announced, Cyberpunk Anime To Be Featured

Netflix's Geeked Week virtual event is returning pretty soon, and the streaming company has released a new trailer providing an overview of what new content will be teased and featured. Cyberpunk: Edgerunners and The Sandman were among the blink-and-you'll-miss-them announcements, news, and first looks at the platform's biggest franchises. Cyberpunk: Edgerunners was first announced way back in 2020 by game developer CD Projekt Red. The anime ties into the company's divisive game, and is produced by Studio Trigger, the animation company known for hits like Kill la Kill, Little Witch Academia, BNA: Brand New Animal, and others. Edgerunners is a standalone, 10-episode story that features original characters disconnected from Cyberpunk 2077. While it is an original story, Edgerunners takes place in the same universe, with Night City being a prominent location in the show. In the event trailer above, all that's mentioned about The Sandman, the long-awaited Neil Gaiman adaptation is literally, "Sandman's coming, trust me." Fingers crossed that that means we will hear a release date. Last year during Geeked Week, viewers were treated to a brief behind-the-scenes look at the live-action series. In the months since, Netflix unveiled some first looks at characters, a clip of the series, and lots of new cast members.Continue Reading at GameSpot

As part of the refreshed PlayStation Plus launching next month in the US, Ubisoft+ Classics is being bundled into the PS Plus Extra and Premium tiers. Ubisoft+ Classics will launch with 27 curated games on June 13 in the US, and the lineup is expected to grow to around 50 games by the end of the year. Ubisoft+, the more standard version of the service that offers day-one releases, classic games, and premium editions, will be added to PlayStation at a later date. The service will also be coming to Xbox in the future and more of its games will be made available through Game Pass as part of a new deal between the companies. As revealed earlier today, the new PS Plus library will feature a healthy selection of contemporary and classic games. Black Mirror Season 6 Is In The Works At Netflix, Will Be "More Cinematic" - Report

Black Mirror is coming back with a new season set to stream on Netflix, and Season 6 will be more expansive. According to Variety, Season 6 will have more episodes than Season 5, and each will be "more cinematic in scope," with episodes likened more to a film than a TV show. This is not all that surprising, though, as Black Mirror has always been known for its cinematic nature and lengthy, film-like episodes. There is no word yet on any of the stories for Black Mirror Season 6. But whatever the case, fans have been waiting for a while, as the three episodes of Season 5 premiered back in June 2019. That season was filled with popular celebrity casting, with stars like Miley Cyrus, Andrew Scott, Anthony Mackie, Topher Grace, and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II appearing in episodes. Casting is said to be underway for Black Mirror Season 6, but no names were mentioned in the report. There is also no word on when filming may begin or when the season could premiere.Continue Reading at GameSpot

How Diablo 3 Went From Disastrous Launch To A Hell Of A Good Time

How Diablo 3 Went From Disastrous Launch To A Hell Of A Good Time

Everyone loves a comeback story. When Diablo 3 launched 10 years ago today, it was a mess. A pernicious mixture of server issues and deeper design flaws angered a fan community that had already been anxious about this new chapter in the beloved series, which had been more than a decade in the making. What Blizzard pulled off in the intervening years is nothing short of incredible, making one of the worst launches in company history into one of its most beloved games--an impeccably fine-tuned loot-RPG that's accessible enough for beginners, but deep and rewarding enough to tempt long-term fans back again and again. In the years since, Blizzard has gone through significant changes. The company has since become embroiled in a series of investigations and lawsuits, spearheaded by the state of California, regarding harassment, worker intimidation, and unfair hiring practices. It has been accused of fostering a sexist, "frat boy" culture, implicating many senior staff in either wrongdoing or complacent knowledge of it. Many long-time staff members have left, and investigations are ongoing. Now Microsoft has stated its intention to buy Activision Blizzard outright, based partly on the depressed stock price resulting from investigations. It has been a tumultuous decade for the studio that made Diablo 3, even as the game itself has improved greatly from its release. My game about the devil has too many colors in it Even before the launch, the Diablo community had mixed feelings about the impending sequel. Screenshots and videos of the game showed a much brighter, more colorful aesthetic than that of the first two games, which were dark and gothic. Fans expecting a grimmer vision from a game about actual Satan felt disappointed in this new direction.Continue Reading at GameSpot

Horizon Zero Dawn Demake Video Takes Us Back To The PS1 Era

Horizon Zero Dawn Demake Video Takes Us Back To The PS1 Era

Horizon Zero Dawn and its sequel Horizon Forbidden West are both incredibly detailed games, with Guerrilla Games' Decima engine offering graphics that seem almost impossible on modern consoles. But would Horizon be just as good with PS1-era visuals that barely even qualify as 3D? Luckily, now we know. YouTube creator ZeoNyph wondered that, as well, and created a pseudo-demo for a Horizon Zero Dawn demake using Blender. Blender is a 3D graphics program that lets users animate their own content, and though it can be used for advanced visuals, that's not what ZeoNyph had in mind. As you can see in the video above, Horizon Zero Dawn was reimagined as a PS1 game from 1996, complete with the classic PlayStation splash screen and blurry 320x420 resolution. The game's own title screen even includes a selection option for the Frozen Wilds expansion, and the audio has a nostalgic crackly tone and lack of fidelity that anyone with a PS1 should recognize. There's something soothing about a game that seems like it's being held together with duct tape and paper clips.Continue Reading at GameSpot

Overwatch 2 Will Make Mercy's Secret Super Jump Ability More Approachable

Overwatch 2 Will Make Mercy's Secret Super Jump Ability More Approachable

Blizzard is continuing to make adjustments to Overwatch 2's PvP mode based on beta feedback, and one major change that is currently being tested internally revolves around making one of Mercy's "hidden" abilities more approachable to average players. That ability is Mercy's super jump. As Blizzard says in its own blog post, "the full potential of Mercy is not unlocked until you've learned the techniques that accompany her kit--particularly the 'super jump.'" The issue is that you currently won't find information on how to super jump in-game, leading to many casual players not even knowing of its existence. While there are plenty of YouTube tutorials and articles detailing the optimal way to fling Mercy high into the air, greatly increasing her mobility in the process, it's still a slightly complicated combination of crouching, using her Guardian Angel ability, and jumping that isn't exactly user friendly.Continue Reading at GameSpot

Elden Ring Is Now The US's Best-Selling Game Of The Last Year, Topping Even CoD: Vanguard

From Software's Elden Ring has surpassed Call of Duty: Vanguard and is now the best-selling premium game in the US for the trailing 12-month period ending April 2022. The NPD Group made the announcement on Friday as part of its sales report for April. Elden Ring continues to be the best-selling game of 2022; it has sold more than 13.4 million copies worldwide as of March 31, publisher Bandai Namco announced during its own earnings briefing this week. The NPD does not reveal specific sales numbers, but the game has surely grown bigger since Bandai's numbers don't count April. As for Vanguard, Activision has been open about how the game failed to sell as well as it hoped, though it has not disclosed a sales figure for the title. The publisher said it failed to execute with the game, which was developed by Sledgehammer, and that the WWII setting did not resonate with everyone. Despite all that, Vanguard was the best-selling game in the US for 2021, with Black Ops Cold War finishing second. Continue Reading at GameSpot

You Probably Don't Want To Play As Loba In Apex Legends Season 13 Right Now

You Probably Don't Want To Play As Loba In Apex Legends Season 13 Right Now

After spending some time exploring Apex Legends' latest season update, players have begun reporting the presence of several irritating bugs--some of which have been fixed by Respawn in the past. Although the Season 13 update addressed quite a few Legend-specific bugs (as detailed in the patch notes), and the Season's launch itself went off without a hitch in terms of server stability, there are still plenty of issues plaguing Apex Legends in Season 13: Saviors. The return of Loba's tactical bug Initially patched in July 2020, the bug made a second appearance in later seasons, forcing Respawn to push out another update to remedy the issue in March 2021. The bug prevented Loba from throwing her tactical Jump Drive bracelet (which instantly teleports her to wherever the bracelet lands). Unfortunately, the bug has now returned to the game for a third time. When the issues with Loba's tactical ability first surfaced, players could occasionally get her bracelet to land and correctly teleport them--but more often than not, it would fly through the air without landing, then display the animation for aborting the tactical move mid-throw, causing Loba to call her bracelet back, spinning it around her finger before returning it to her arm.Continue Reading at GameSpot

The Steam Deck's Latest Update Focuses On Quality Of Life

Now in its third month since release, Valve continues to push updates for the Steam Deck designed to improve quality of life for players on the handheld PC gaming device. After its last update added a lockscreen and window switching, the latest update adds improvements for players using the Steam Deck with an external display, as well as game-specific perfomance settings, and more. While the Steam Deck isn't exactly designed to be played with an external display, Valve has started to implement some updates for players who want to do it regardless. After the latest update, the interface will be scaled to a virtual 1280x800 resolution when connected to external screens, though Valve adds that this feature will be worked on and improved in the future. The update has also added the ability for players to customize performance settings for each game they play on the Steam Deck, a useful feature considering the limitations of the Steam Deck's portable-sized hardware. Games will use the system settings by default, but per-game profiles can be set up through the Quick Access Menu.Continue Reading at GameSpot

Apex Legends Mobile Release Date Confirmed, First New Character Revealed

Apex Legends Mobile Release Date Confirmed, First New Character Revealed

Apex Legends developer Respawn Entertainment recently announced that the heavily-anticipated mobile version of the hero shooter would release sometime in May, but did not specify exactly when. But today, the launch date was officially announced: Apex Legends Mobile will be released on May 17.Octane, as seen in the Apex Legends Mobile launch trailer. Respawn tweeted the announcement alongside a trailer for the mobile version of the game. Though the trailer doesn't depict any actual gameplay, it does add some interesting lore and hints at a new legend that will join the list of playable characters in Apex Mobile. This isn't too much of a surprise, as Respawn has previously stated there will be mobile-exclusive content including maps, modes, events and even legends. If this new character debuts next week alongside Apex Legends Mobile: Season 1, it would mark the first time Respawn has ever unveiled two legends in such a short timespan. Though the game doesn't launch until May 17, users can pre-register for Apex Legends Mobile now, which will grant them multiple in-game rewards. There's a catch, though--the number of rewards each player gets depends entirely on how many total players pre-register for the game. Currently unlocked rewards include a badge, a banner frame, a banner pose, and Epic-tier skins for both Bloodhound and the R-99. If pre-registrations surpass 15 million users, all players will receive a holospray of the Apex Legends Mobile logo. The next milestone is 25 million pre-registrations, which will grant players an Epic-tier Pathfinder skin. Whether further tiers will be added remains to be seen.Continue Reading at GameSpot

Another Crab's Treasure Has Weak Points You Can Target For Massive Damage

Another Crab's Treasure Has Weak Points You Can Target For Massive Damage

The latest Nintendo Indie World Showcase featured a number of impressive indie games, but perhaps no more mesmerizing than Another Crab's Treasure. The Soulslike stars a crab who must improvise to find makeshift shells in order to defend himself in a world ravaged by pollution. Yes, that already sounds like the greatest video game ever, but it was a reference to an E3 press conference from 16 years ago that sealed the deal. During its segment at the Nintendo Indie World Showcase, developer Aggro Crab said it found crabs to be the perfect choice for an action game, especially because "you can hit their weak point for massive damage." Yes, it's a line taken from the infamous E3 2006 PlayStation press conference, during which the game Genji: Days of the Blade was shown off. During that conference, the audience was told about the historical ties in the game before abruptly shifting to a "giant enemy crab." By flipping this crab on its back, you could indeed attack its weak point for massive damage, just like we've read in the history books.Continue Reading at GameSpot

Apex Legends IMC Armories - Tips For Survival

Apex Legends IMC Armories - Tips For Survival

The recent addition of Titanfall 2's Stalkers to the IMC Armories located on Apex Legends' Storm Point map has made it the most PvE-heavy map in the entire game, and with the exception of Flyers, every single one of the NPCs on the island is out to get you. But facing off with AI enemies in the ring certainly has its benefits, as the Carthage spiders and Prowlers on Storm Point leave excellent goodies behind. The Stalker-class robots now lurking within the IMC armories on the tropical paradise are similar, but they don't drop loot--instead, killing them will unlock special loot bins within the IMC Armory itself, with loot tailored to each squad member's specific loadout. These ruthless robots have made several appearances in Apex's YouTube videos--first when they attacked Loba in the Season 5 launch trailer and later when Pathfinder faced off with one in Stories from the Outlands: Fight Night. While entering an IMC Armory can give your squad a leg up on the competition, facing the AI army in combat can also have some downsides, and if you're not careful, you may find yourself in a deathbox. But with the right preparation, taking down these artificial monsters can be a breeze. Follow these three tips and you'll be kicking robo-butt in no time. Know what to expect Once you've located (or stumbled upon) an IMC armory and made sure the coast is clear of any enemy players, enter and activate the terminal with the large screen. Make sure to give your teammates a chance to get inside before you engage the enemy, because once you activate the terminal, the Armory will seal itself shut and begin to unleash its army of artificial predators on anyone who remains inside.Continue Reading at GameSpot

It's Good That Apex Legends May Not Get A New Legend Every Season

It's Good That Apex Legends May Not Get A New Legend Every Season

Apex Legends senior character designer Devan McGuire's recent comments about potentially ending the tradition of introducing a new playable character to the battle royale with each new season has caused a huge stir among the game's fanbase, and many players seem convinced this move would be a terrible idea. At first, I was one of them. The negative knee-jerk reaction to my favorite game reducing how often it gets this type of significant new content was swift and intense. However, after mulling it over, I started to consider all the problems that slowing down character debuts could solve. (The key word here being "could.") With proper implementation, increasing the customary three-month gap between legend debuts might be exactly what this game needs. While McGuire has stated that Apex is more about movement and gunplay than individual characters' abilities, there's no denying that the "new legend every season" method generates serious hype, with fans spending the weeks leading up to a new season launch theorizing about the newest member of the legend squad. From in-game Easter eggs hinting at the next character's identity to launch trailers and episodes of Stories from the Outlands revealing their backstory, the marketing for Apex Legends has fallen into a rhythm that naturally pulls fans back into the game to see what's exciting and new--disrupting it in any way could be a dangerous gamble for Respawn.Continue Reading at GameSpot

Gotham Knights PSN Page Now Mentions 4-Player Support

Gotham Knights might be expanding its co-op multiplayer mode, according to an updated listing. As spotted by a user on Reddit, the PlayStation store page now mentions online support for up to "4 network players" in the Warner Bros. Montreal-developed superhero game. This could be a mistake, though, as the Gotham Knight's description still mentions patrolling the boroughs of Gotham City "in solo-play or with one other hero." When it was first announced, one of the key features revealed for the game was co-op gameplay, with a partner player using either Batgirl, Nightwing, Red Hood, or Robin to help create some dynamic duo action.Gotham Knight's PSN store page. If case you've forgotten about it, Gotham Knights take place in a world where Bruce Wayne is definitely dead, leaving Gotham vulnerable to various criminal gangs, supervillains, and owl-themed secret societies that had been kept in check by the caped crusader. It'll be up to players to step into the boots of one of Batman's proteges to fight back against the criminal element and restore order to Gotham City.Continue Reading at GameSpot

April O'Neil Is My Favorite Character In TMNT: Shredder's Revenge

April O'Neil Is My Favorite Character In TMNT: Shredder's Revenge

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder's Revenge feels like a wonderful homage to the TMNT TV show that aired in the late '80s and early '90s, even featuring a remade variation of the animated opening and theme song when booting up the game (I may or may not have listened to it half a dozen times before actually playing the game for this preview). And while a sense of nostalgia certainly helped me enjoy my time with it so far, the game has plenty more on offer beyond that. Shredder's Revenge is a side-scrolling beat-'em-up that supports up to four-player co-op--it's developed by Tribute Games and published by Dotemu. The game is narratively inspired by the aforementioned animated TV show and both stylistically and mechanically inspired by the TMNT games that Konami developed back in the '80s and '90s. It's not a canonical sequel to that TV show or any of those games but feels like it could be. Like the games back in the day, Shredder's Revenge features the four turtles as playable characters--Raphael has powerful attacks, Michelangelo is fast, Donatello has good reach, and Leonardo is a balanced fighter. However, Shredder's Revenge also adds two non-traditional picks: April O'Neal and Master Splinter.Continue Reading at GameSpot

Reggie Fils-Aime Explains Why Localizing Mother 3 Didn't Make Business Sense

In a new interview, former Nintendo President Reggie Fils-Aime has revealed more details on why the game was never localized for North America Speaking to Bloomberg while promoting his new book, Fils-Aime explained that when the game arrived in 2006 on the Game Boy Advance, Nintendo was already making a transition to the Nintendo DS handheld console. It simply didn't make good business sense to spend money on a game for an older platform at the time, according to Fils-Aime, and it had nothing to do with fan rumors about the game having provocative content. "That is not at all the issue why Mother 3 in particular never made it to the West," Fils-Aime explained. "It was all based on the business needs and the business situation at the time."Continue Reading at GameSpot

After a huge two-night Wrestlemania 38 event last month, it's time for a backlash, a Wrestlemania Backlash to be more exact. Throughout the evening of May 8, we'll be updating you with the winners and losers of each match at this WWE PPV as it happens, and you can check all the results below. This year's event is taking place at Dunkin' Donuts Center in Providence, Rhode Island. One of the other highlights of the evening is the rematch between Seth Rollins and Cody Rhodes. At this year's Wrestlemania, Rhodes was Rollins' surprise opponent and got the win over the Monday Night Messiah. Thousands Of Dollars In Equipment Finally Makes Screencheating In Goldeneye Very Hard

The Computing History Museum based in the UK has put together a roughly $8,000 rig that allows you to play GoldenEye 007 for the Nintendo 64 on four separate screens, putting an end to screen-cheating once and for all. This was put together to celebrate the 25th anniversary of GoldenEye on the N64. 4 screen GoldenEye on the original N64 hardware! No screencheating here! …but how? Come and experience this at our GoldenEye evening, celebrating 25 years of GoldenEye for Nintendo 64: https://t.co/F918hEQ20v pic.twitter.com/05jA82upb8 — Computing History (@computermuseum) May 4, 2022 While the rig might be pricey, the way it works is actually pretty straightforward and even uses the N64's original hardware. The original image is simply broken up and split across four TVs, with player one able to go into a full screen to select the mode they'd like to play. Each controller will control its respective TV and, in doing so, eliminate screen cheating. Screen cheating is a term often used when playing split-screen multiplayer, and is meant to call out someone whenever they look at your side of the screen to an advantage over you.Continue Reading at GameSpot

Elden Ring Mod Adds Its Most Famous Player As An NPC Summon

Elden Ring player Let Me Solo Her has become something of a celebrity in the game, appearing in other player's worlds in his iconic, pot-headed get-up to slay Malenia, blade of Miquella. Now, modder Garden of Eyes has made a mod that will let you summon an NPC version of Let Me Solo Her to help with Malenia, as picked up by Polygon. Let Me Solo Her has quickly become iconic for his Elden Ring prowess, taking on one of the game's most difficult bosses with nothing more than a loincloth, a pot on his head, and two katanas. While the player has been prolific in helping other Tarnished beat Malenia, the real Let Me Solo Her isn't always going to be available to help out, which is why modder Garden of Eyes has made a version that can be summoned on demand. The mod swaps out the Let Me Solo Her summon for Lone Wolf Ashes, meaning players can summon him whenever they need a hand. The player's iconic kit is replicated in the modded character, and from the boss fights shown in the preview video, the NPC version has some of his skills, too.Continue Reading at GameSpot

Today's Wordle Answer (#303) - April 18, 2022

It’s time, my fellow puzzling savants, for another week of Wordle. Today is April 18 and the day’s puzzle had me on the ropes because I thought about it all wrong. It’s a good thing you’ve also got me to mess up so as to know how to not lead you all astray. Have you tried today’s Wordle? It’s actually a surprisingly simple one, I was just thinking about it all wrong. I got four of the five letters on my first guess, just all in the wrong places. When you’ve got that many of the letters, you should do what I didn’t and start trying to put them together into parts of words you’re familiar with. With that many letters locked in, all you’re really left to do is reconfigure them until you get something that sticks out to your brain. If I just shuffled them around a bit, I would’ve gotten today’s answer in one more guess. In the meantime, we’ve got plenty of tips, including the best starting words, that you can use to do better than myself.Continue Reading at GameSpot

Blizzard Says It's Not Working On NFTs In Response To Survey Asking About The Subject

Blizzard is not working on implementing NFTs into its products, according to a tweet from Blizzard president Mike Ybarra. "No one is working on NFTs," Ybarra stated on Twitter in response to a Video Games Chronicle article about a recent Blizzard survey gauging player interest in regards to things like NFTs and "play to earn" games, among numerous other subjects. No one is doing NFTs. — Mike Ybarra (@Qwik) April 17, 2022 NFTs, for those who are fortunate enough not to have heard about them yet, are essentially data, such as an image or in-game item, stored on the blockchain in the form of a digital ledger. A number of video game companies have expressed interest in using NFTs in games, with Ubisoft having recently added NFT weapons to Ghost Recon: Breakpoint. Players can earn these items in-game through playing, and then can sell those items to other players using the blockchain. That is also where the term "play to earn" comes from, in that players can earn digital goods through playing and then theoretically take those items to other games or sell them via the blockchain.Continue Reading at GameSpot

New Top Gun Maverick Featurette Shows Off Cast's Intense, Mandatory Training Regimen

Paramount Pictures has released a new promotional video for Top Gun: Maverick. The long-awaited sequel hits theaters and IMAX on May 27. Tom Cruise has spoken at length while promoting this film about the intense preparation that included three months of flight training that was required "homework" for Top Gun: Maverick's cast of pilots. This wasn't merely a PR pitch, as co-star Miles Teller--who plays Goose's son, Rooster--confirmed in a March interview with Total Film. But why read about it when you can see a new three-minute montage of the film training below. An official synopsis for the film is as follows: "After more than 30 years of service as one of the Navy's top aviators, Pete 'Maverick' Mitchell (Cruise) is where he belongs, pushing the envelope as a courageous test pilot and dodging the advancement in rank that would ground him… Facing an uncertain future and confronting the ghosts of his past, Maverick is drawn into a confrontation with his own deepest fears, culminating in a mission that demands the ultimate sacrifice from those who will be chosen to fly it."Continue Reading at GameSpot

Battlefield 2042 Patch Notes For Big 4.0 Update Have Arrived--See All The Changes

Battlefield 2042 Patch Notes For Big 4.0 Update Have Arrived--See All The Changes

Battlefield 2042's massive new 4.0 update is scheduled to arrive April 19, and ahead of that, DICE has published the full patch notes. There are lots of changes coming, including VoIP functionality for parties and squads, improvements for the end-of-round menu, and big changes for weapon attachments, along with a long list of bug fixes as well. There are 400+ changes in all. For weapon attachments, DICE said its goal was to help make them feel more "unique." In the current setup, some attachments felt "too similar," making it difficult for players to understand and appreciate the specific unique attributes of each. "We encourage you to experiment with the refreshed weapon attachments to see how they feel after the update," DICE said. As for the scoreboard changes, the new UI for this will now display at the end-of-round screen as well as displaying in-game. The addition of VoIP is pretty straightforward--it's now available for Parties and Squads. This was one of many features that players have called for since launch.Continue Reading at GameSpot

Fantastic Beasts: Secrets of Dumbledore Has Worst US Opening In Harry Potter History

Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore opened this weekend in the US, and it a broke a record--but not the record that Warner Bros. would have wanted. The film earned $43 million over its opening weekend in the US, which is the lowest of all time for any Harry Potter film. The 2016 Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them made $74 million over its opening weekend in the US. The 2018 sequel, The Crimes of Grindelwald, earned $62 million for its opening weekend. According to Deadline, there are "no immediate, concrete plans" for any further Harry Potter franchise content for film or TV. This is no surprise, as a previous report said a fourth Fantastic Beasts film (of five planned movies) was not a guarantee and would depend on how well The Secrets of Dumbledore performed at the box office.Continue Reading at GameSpot

Portal Writer Says He'd Like To Do Portal 3 Because He's "Not Getting Any Younger"

Portal writer Erik Wolpaw says he'd love to make a Portal 3, but he's only one part of the process and can't start it on his own. He noted that the company is relatively small and almost everyone is already on a project, so assembling a team to make a hypothetical Portal 3 is difficult. Wolpaw said on the Kiwi Talkz podcast (via VGC), "I'd work on another Portal in a second, but I can't make it happen by myself. I could advocate for it […] it might help a little bit, but the problem is [Valve has] 300 employees and I don't know exactly the breakdown--how many of them are on the production side versus Steam business side versus legal versus whatever." He said that means there's an opportunity cost to taking 75 employees to go work on a project, and they'd have to leave behind whatever they're currently working on to start Portal 3. He also said that you'd "make some money" but it won't be "Counter-Strike: GO money."Continue Reading at GameSpot

Steam Deck Preorder Holders Are Going To Incredible Lengths To Figure Out Their Place In Line

Steam Deck fans who have preordered the gaming system may have just cracked the formula for when they can expect to see their device ship out. Over on Reddit, users have managed to excavate data from Steam's source code for their preorders, using that information to roughly nail down the window in which they'll receive an order email letting them know that the Steam Deck has been shipped out. Using this "epoch time" code, the information is compiled into a list with other users who also supplied information from their preorders. Using the system, people can track down the text "rtReserveTime" and copy the number into the Reddit thread. Once calculated--using the epoch converter link--the number will detail how many seconds passed since Jan 1, 1970, and represents when Valve accepted their preorder. With that number discovered, you'll be able to roughly determine your place in Valve's line for your Steam Deck. You can see just how far the queue progressed since the last set of orders on the main Reddit thread for this topic.Continue Reading at GameSpot
