Chip Shortages Could Last Through 2022, Says Nvidia CEO

Chip Shortages Could Last Through 2022, Says Nvidia CEO

Anyone having a problem getting a new graphics card, car, household appliance, or any other modern piece of tech won't have much better luck any time soon. Speaking to Yahoo Finance, CEO Jensen Huang signaled that he expects the chip shortage to last well through 2022. "I think that through the next year," Huang said, "demand is going to far exceed supply. We don't have any magic bullets in navigating the supply chain." Supply chain bottlenecks, from a lack of components used in creating products, like semiconductors and microchips, to staff shortages at ports, have impacted economies around the world. The ongoing chip shortage began at the start of the pandemic, and so far, the situation hasn't changed. Huang says the situation isn't as bad for Nvidia, which made 47% of its revenue in 2022's second fiscal quarter from the sale of graphics cards. "We have the support of our suppliers," continued Huang. "We're fortunate that we're multi-sourced and that our supply chain is diverse and our company is quite large so we have the support of a large ecosystem around us."Continue Reading at GameSpot

Battlefield 2042 Is Crashing On Xbox Series X Consoles, Fix Is Coming

Battlefield 2042 is running into some issues on Xbox Series X, with players reporting that the game completely crashes their console in some scenarios. Developer DICE has confirmed that this is a system-level problem on Microsoft's side that is also affecting games like FIFA, Madden, and NBA 2K. DICE will release an update on November 17 to resolve the crashing issues, the studio said in a blog post (via Battlefield Bulletin). The update is optional until November 23, when it becomes mandatory. Players experiencing the issue don't have to wait that long to get the update, however. Everyone can join the Xbox Insider Program (sign up here) and opt in to the Omega Ring. From there, the update should be made available to help improve the experience.Continue Reading at GameSpot

Microsoft Almost Put A Motorized Rotating Xbox Button On The Xbox One X

Microsoft Almost Put A Motorized Rotating Xbox Button On The Xbox One X

Microsoft has revealed it nearly put a motorized rotating Xbox button on the Xbox One X, but decided against it over concerns about its potential to "fail" and end up creating a costly scenario. A GQ report said the button would have rotated so the Xbox logo stayed in the correct upright position no matter if the console was positioned horizontally or vertically. The Xbox brand teams apparently loved this idea for consistency's sake. "They never like our logo sitting sideways," Xbox boss Phil Spencer said with a laugh. Adding the rotating button would have come at a cost of $1, and Spencer said it might seem obvious to the casual observer that this would be money well spent. However, someone at the design meeting made a statement that changed Spencer's mind: "There's a world where we sell a hundred million of these." As such, the $1 decision became a $100 million decision, and Spencer shut it down.Continue Reading at GameSpot

Xbox Game Pass Was Originally A Game Rental Service

Xbox Game Pass Was Originally A Game Rental Service

Long before it blossomed into one of the best deals in gaming that it is today, Xbox Game Pass' entire structure was focused on rentals. According to a report from GQ, Game Pass was in the works at Xbox since 2013, and its first iteration was essentially an Xbox-exclusive version of Gamefly. Game Pass' time as a rental service didn't last too long though, thanks to the rapid growth of two subscription-based services, Spotify and Netflix. Xbox Game Pass then similarly became a subscription service, although as Xbox's head of gaming ecosystems Sarah Bond remembers, selling the idea to game publishers wasn't easy. "They were like, 'No way, [Game Pass] is going to devalue games.'" While unproven back then, the myth that Game Pass would impact a game's sales was prevalent until recently. A number of game releases over Game Pass, including Descenders and The Ascent, have shown that despite releasing through the subscription-based platform, a game can still sell incredibly well or even see a spike in sales post-launch.Continue Reading at GameSpot

Elder Scrolls 6 Exclusivity Not About Punishing Other Platforms, Spencer Says

After Starfield, Bethesda Game Studios is releasing The Elder Scrolls VI, and it will be an exclusive to Xbox and PC after Microsoft acquired parent company ZeniMax. Xbox boss Phil Spencer has now spoken again about the exclusivity deal, telling GQ it's not about "punishing" other platforms, but making it exclusive to Xbox and PC was important so it could take advantage of the "full complete package" of what Microsoft can offer. "It's not about punishing any other platform, like I fundamentally believe all of the platforms can continue to grow," he said. "But in order to be on Xbox, I want us to be able to bring the full complete package of what we have. And that would be true when I think about Elder Scrolls VI. That would be true when I think about any of our franchises." The "full complete package" that Spencer is referring to is seemingly everything that Microsoft offers, including Xbox Live, Game Pass, Cloud Gaming, and other Xbox features that might not be possible if The Elder Scrolls VI launched on other platforms.Continue Reading at GameSpot

Xbox Creator Shares A Nice Message Ahead Of 20th Anniversary Thanking Fans For Their Support

Seamus Blackley, the father of the Xbox who is now better known for baking ancient bread, has shared a message ahead of the 20th anniversary of Xbox. Posting on Twitter, Blackley said said the team who helped design and release the Xbox only are owed about 40% of the credit for the success of the console. "The real people who made Xbox successful are gamers and fans. You guys, " Blackley said. "Without the support of the people who took the risk to buy the thing, it never could have succeeded." "And buying an Xbox and being an Xbox fan--convincing your mom, your boyfriend, your girlfriend that it was OK to have an Xbox, to have a console from the company that made Excel, was a big deal," he added. "Especially in 2000. It wasn't obvious. It was something, you know, that took some intestinal fortitude to be an Xbox fan. And I really appreciate that. The credit is yours. 20 Years Later, Metal Gear Solid 2 Is Still A Masterclass In Misdirection

Picture the scene: It's the dawn of a new century, E3 2000 is in full swing, and the one game stealing all of the attention at that event is Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty. A direct sequel to the landmark game that debuted on the PS1 in 1998, game director Hideo Kojima and publisher Konami's follow-up was announced with a trailer that had everyone talking. It was nine minutes of next-gen PS2 gameplay and impressive cinematics, a showcase of Sony's upcoming console that featured Solid Snake performing his trademark tactical espionage actions while he was being hunted by mercenaries across a rain-soaked freighter ship. Hype was building up, fans dialed up their expectations for the return of Solid Snake to 11, and a demo of the game that came with Hideo Kojima's mechnificent Zone of the Enders saw Metal Gear Solid 2 mania reach critical mass. And then, once in people's hands, the game pulled the rug out from under players, putting them in the combat boots of an entirely new character within hours of starting. This was Kojima's talent for misdirection at its finest, tricking players into believing that Solid Snake's fight against the Patriots and Solidus Snake would span the entirety of the DVD disc that the game was encoded into. Instead, Solid Snake's playable mission ended with MGS1 villain Revolver Ocelot hijacking a Metal Gear Ray prototype and sinking the tanker that he'd had infiltrated. The legendary soldier seemed to go down with the ship, but there was no way that Kojima was going to kill the star of the Metal Gear franchise…right?Continue Reading at GameSpot

Xbox Series X|S - What Surprised Us Most, 1 Year Later

Microsoft's Xbox Series X and Series S consoles turned a year old on November 10. Within that year, Xbox released a few first-party console games (like Psychonauts 2 and Forza Horizon 5), and its new consoles saw several well-received third-party console exclusives as well, such as The Big Con and The Artful Escape. Rather than deliver a traditional "the year that was" retrospective, we're instead going to cover the features, services, and games that most surprised us in the first year of the Xbox Series X|S's lifecycle. From a love for Smart Delivery to a welcome reprieve from scrolling through social media, here's all the biggest surprises from the first year of the Xbox Series X|S. When you're done reading, be sure to check out our corresponding list of what most surprised us about the PS5 in its first year. Smart Delivery is essential Xbox threw around a lot of buzzwords ahead of the launch of the Xbox Series X|S. Chief among them was "Smart Delivery," which Xbox used as a catch-all term to describe how cross-generation games would work on Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S. Basically, if a game released for both consoles, you only needed to buy it once--the Xbox One would know to play the past-generation version of the game and the Xbox Series X|S would know to play the current-generation version. It was all automatic.Continue Reading at GameSpot

Self-Aware Willow Sequel Series Cast Video Admits Nobody Remembers Willow

A new Disney+ Day video features the cast of Willow discussing the upcoming sequel series in a humorously self-deprecating manner that acknowledges that most people in 2021 no longer remember the 1988 fantasy film. In the new video, actor Warwick Davis (Harry Potter, Return of the Jedi, Willow) jokingly pitches this series as being perfect for "a whole new generation of fans who may not remember the movie." Davis then proceeds to walk over to introduce his fellow castmates, who take turns making digs at Davis and the original film's fading legacy. GTA Vice City Cheats: Infinite Ammo, Flying Cars, And More In Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Definitive Edition

Grand Theft Auto's trip back to the '80s in Vice City brought with it even more cheat codes than the previous game. Whether you're returning to the game or diving in for the first time, the very same cheat codes that worked for the game when it was first released in 2002 still function in the newly released version in Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy - The Definitive Edition. While not necessarily essential, playing around with cheats can either make Vice City a more playable experience for you or just open new ways to play. After all, making your own fun is perhaps the biggest appeal of the GTA games, and cheat codes are a great way to facilitate whatever kind of nonsense you want to engage with. With codes, you can repair your armor, get access to more guns, spawn vehicles, or change your character, among many other things. We've verified the cheats below work in the new Definitive Edition of Vice City. To use them, you can enter them at any time during normal gameplay. Some can be entered again to deactivate them, while a few do seem to trigger an effect but don't seem to actually work correctly; we're trying to figure out what the deal is with those now.Continue Reading at GameSpot

Epic Games confirmed the news this week in a tweet, although details on other characters and items are being kept secret with a top-level binding jutsu by the company. Fortnite has been teasing Naruto content, specifically from the Shippuden series that follows the titular shinobi into a major ninja world war, for quite a while now. Epic COO Donald Mustard confirmed the crossover back in August, while a more recent patch started setting the stage for Naruto's arrival. Pokemon Brilliant Diamond / Shining Pearl Pay Homage To Nintendo's Handheld History

Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl are remakes of the gen-4 games from 2006, Diamond and Pearl. But they're also modernized remakes releasing on Switch, and Nintendo has found a cheeky way to pay homage to the series' long history across its handheld hardware. As shown in a tweet from the Nintendo of America account, you can summon legendary Pokemon by inserting special slates into pedestals at Ramanas Park. And in a nod to the series' history, those slates look like classic Nintendo cartridges. The artwork shows slates modeled after Game Boy, Game Boy Color, and Game Boy Advance carts. Those correspond with gen-1 (Blue/Red), gen-2 (Gold/Silver), and gen-3 (Ruby/Sapphire), respectively. Discover pedestals inside the rooms of Ramanas Park. Tom Holland Confirms Jamie Foxx Making MCU Debut In Spider-Man: No Way Home

Actor Tom Holland has seemingly confirmed that Jamie Foxx will reprise his role as Electro in Spider-Man: No Way Home. Speaking with Total Film Magazine, Holland had an apparent slip of the tongue that name-checked Foxx--by first name only--while discussing the many Spider-Man characters from previous films that will appear in the upcoming sequel, which is due in theaters on December 17. "Everyone puts their trousers on in the same way in the morning," Holland said. "I'm talking about Alfred and Jamie and those guys. It was really interesting to see these actors adapt and change what they were doing to fit the modern era." Total Film Magazine only pressed Holland for confirmation on whether Andrew Garfield and Tobey Maguire will be in the next Spider-Man movie, which he has steadily denied. In this new interview, Holland clarified by saying, "People don't believe me that [Maguire and Garfield] are not coming back. Microsoft Dropped A Real Car Out Of The Sky To Promote Forza Horizon 5

To promote the launch of Forza Horizon 5, the Xbox ANZ team pulled off a daring stunt. They dropped a real Polaris out of the sky from 4,500 feet up just like it happens in the game. A person jumps out of the helicopter as well, parachuting to the ground before jumping into the Polaris and zipping around with speed and style (and pink smoke clouds). Endwalker was previously scheduled to arrive on November 23, but it's now coming two weeks later, on December 7. Early access will be available starting December 3 for some players. Square Enix also announced that patch 6.01 is coming on December 21, with patch 6.05 slated to arrive on January 4, 2022. Spider-Man: No Way Home Poster Teases Spidey Multiverse

The new poster for Spider-Man: No Way Home has been revealed. The latest Spider-Man movie hits theaters on December 17. The poster was released via a tweet from the film's official account that states "the Multiverse unleashed." As we know from August's first No Way Home trailer, the movie will see Peter Parker find himself in a multiverse accidentally created by Doctor Strange. One of the villains he'll definitely face is Doctor Octopus, the villain from 2004's Spider-Man 2, played by Alfred Molina. The poster shows Doc Ock's robotic arms reaching menacingly for our web-slinging hero--and if you look closely, you'll also see the Green Goblin hovering in the background. Check it out below: The Multiverse unleashed. #SpiderManNoWayHome is exclusively in movie theaters December 17. pic.twitter.com/DchHdpKKFy — Spider-Man: No Way Home (@SpiderManMovie) November 8, 2021 There has been no official confirmation of the other multiverse characters that Spider-Man will encounter. However, Empire recently reported that Sandman, played by Thomas Haden Church in 2007's Spider-Man 3, and the Lizard, played by Rhys Ifans in 2012's The Amazing Spider-Man, will appear.Continue Reading at GameSpot

New Mass Effect Game Gets Teaser Art On N7 Day

As part of BioWare's N7 Day festivities, the developer has released a piece of teaser art for the next Mass Effect game. The striking artwork shows a massive crater on an alien world, and it seemingly contains a series of clues about its plot and characters. A ship is in the foreground--not the Normandy but a new one with the letters SFX printed on it--and what appear to be multiple characters are standing nearby. They appear to be a Krogan, a. Turian, and an Asari. The teaser art also strongly suggests that the Geth will factor into the story in some capacity. The crewmates appear to be walking towards a Geth's remains. We have another #N7Day surprise for you from the team working on the next Mass Effect. 👀 Thank you all for being the best fans in the world! pic.twitter.com/kUwASGJhcx — Mass Effect (@masseffect) November 7, 2021 "Thank you all for being the best fans in the world!" Gears of War's Heroes Are At Once Tools And Victims of Fascism

Gears of War's Heroes Are At Once Tools And Victims of Fascism

Outside, shrapnel slams into stone walls and bodies crunch into the cold comfort of cover as tracer fire explodes over the heads of soldiers. Inside, there is relative peace. Statues of old heroes stand, worn and decayed, but still erect. Stained glass windows are shattered, scattering diffused light across the domed structure. At once, the sounds of battle end. Footsteps crunch closer to this forgotten building. In the center of these ruins is a table, dented with shrapnel, overgrown with vines. Beaten into its surface are the words: Order. Diligence. Purity. Labor. Gears of War is the story of fascist empire in decay. While the game's opening cutscene gestures at a time of peace, it must have been a brief one. A scant few years after destructive resource wars ravaged the planet Sera, the Locust--think orcs with guns--arose from the earth. Somehow undetected, the Locust brought the human Coalition of Ordered Governments (COG) to the brink of extinction. Gears of War starts around 13 years after this conflict began. Freed from prison, former sergeant Marcus Fenix and his old friend Dom Santiago attempt to find the superweapon that might end the war. To do this, they drag themselves through ever deeper layers of hell until they succeed, but only briefly. The war they sought to end will continue. Gears of War is thus lean and oppressive. Exposition is stripped to the bone, as Marcus and crew fall into set-piece after set-piece, always surviving by the skin of their teeth.Continue Reading at GameSpot

Of note, Mass Effect Legendary Edition is on sale. The remastered collection of Mass Effect, Mass Effect 2, and Mass Effect 3 will only be discounted for a limited time so act fast if you're interested. If you're on the fence about whether to pick up the remastered collection, check out our Mass Effect Legendary Edition review, which states, "Mass Effect: Legendary Edition remasters BioWare's space opera RPG trilogy for the new generation of consoles, enhancing the visuals, implementing quality of life improvements, and making welcome adjustments to certain content for all three games. In those adjustments, Legendary Edition occasionally draws unwanted attention to parts of the trilogy that haven't aged gracefully, but as a whole, this remaster is a good way to see what all the fuss is about if you missed out on the first three Mass Effect games the first time around, or are just looking for a reason to dive into them again."Continue Reading at GameSpot

There's no denying that Warzone has been an incredible success for Activision and the various developers responsible for handling this behemoth of a game as it continually evolves and polishes its gameplay. Just like EA's battle royale, Warzone is a game of last man standing action as dozens of players duke it out to be the sole survivor. Exhilarating when its servers aren't plagued with cheaters, Warzone plays like a highlight reel of the best moments from the Call of Duty franchise, and for the low cost of absolutely nothing, it provides plenty of bag for your buck. New Halo Infinite campaign footage will be released on Monday, October 25, as part of a special video broadcast, Microsoft has announced. The broadcast comes less than two months before Halo Infinite launches on December 8. While 343 has shown lots of Halo Infinite's multiplayer, and even held multiple betas, the company hasn't revealed much of the campaign in some time. That's all set to change tomorrow, October 25. 343's video showcase is scheduled to begin at 6 AM PT / 9 AM ET, and you can watch through the YouTube video below. To date, the only campaign gameplay footage for Halo Infinite that has been officially released came in July 2020, and it was very underwhelming for many fans. Halo's Needler Is Now A Nerf Blaster, And We All Want It

Halo's Needler Is Now A Nerf Blaster, And We All Want It

Over the years, Halo has introduced the gaming world to some iconic weapons, but none of them are as cool as the Covenant's Needler. The single-handed weapon shoots out a bunch of purple needles that explode on its target. And very soon, it's going to be a really-cool Nerf blaster. Revealed at Hasbro's PulseCon, the Nerf Lmtd Halo Needler will be arriving in stores in August 2022. Modeled after the gun from the games, the battery-operated blaster will come with a hefty price tag--$100. Below, you can see the first images of the Needler. Keep in mind, these are digitally rendered images and the product and packaging may change before final production.Gallery The Needler takes six AA batteries--which will not be included--and comes with 10 darts to fill up the 10-dart drum. Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack: N64 And Genesis Games We Want To See

Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack: N64 And Genesis Games We Want To See

The Nintendo Switch Online subscription service is getting a new tier, dubbed Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack, and it includes access to a sizable selection of Nintendo 64 and Sega Genesis games. Presumably, like the NES and SNES offerings on NSO, more games will be rolled out over time, and there are several notable omissions from this initial batch that we want to see included with a future update. Below, we've picked some of our favorite missing Nintendo 64 and Genesis games, including ones that seem like surefire additions and a few that we'll probably be waiting forever to see on the service. Diddy Kong Racing (Nintendo 64) Since it effectively kicked off the genre in the early '90s, the Mario Kart series has been the king of kart racers. In fact, some may argue that no other kart racer can compare to Mario Kart. But those people are wrong, because Diddy Kong racing actually surpassed it--at least when compared to the Nintendo 64's Mario Kart 64. With a more open layout, support for karts, hovercraft, and airplanes, and even a story to complete when not racing against friends, Diddy Kong Racing was a more complete and varied offering than Mario Kart 64. Developer Rare's acquisition by Microsoft has probably killed any chance of another game--though you can play a DS version--but it's a must-have addition to the Nintendo Switch Online lineup. -- Gabe Gurwin, SEO Editor WWF No Mercy (N64) For my money, there was no better era for wrestling games than the N64 days, and the best of those games was WWF No Mercy. It expanded on the foundation established over previous beloved games like WCW/NWO Revenge and Wrestlemania 2000. With a more extensive create-a-character, a single-player Championship mode with branching storylines, a huge slate of match types and wrestlers, and matches that could take place in backstage areas, No Mercy was brimming with variety, making it a dream game for wrestling fans.Continue Reading at GameSpot
