Cyberpunk 2077's Phantom Liberty Expansion Won't Be Free DLC

Cyberpunk 2077's Phantom Liberty Expansion Won't Be Free DLC

Cyberpunk 2077 still has one more story to tell in 2023's upcoming Phantom Liberty expansion, and like previous premium content developed by CD Projekt Red, this DLC will have a price tag attached to it. Speaking to GamesRadar, CDPR's global PR director Radek Grabowski confirmed that "as for the expansion's pricing - we have not revealed exact details yet, but it will be a paid one." This isn't a new business tactic for CDPR as the developer expanded on The Witcher 3 after launch with two well-received expansions: Hearts of Stone which cost $10 on release, and the much larger Blood and Wine DLC that retailed for $20 at the time. Like The Witcher 3--which has a free next-gen update on the way--Cyberpunk 2077 also received a substantial amount of free DLC after launch, with the Edgerunners update providing a notable amount of free cosmetics, weapons, and even an extra narrative thread. Grabowski mentioned that "our expansions are traditionally cheaper than full-price games," which suggests that Phantom Liberty may lean towards the Blood and Wine pricing scale as it will give players an entirely new district to explore.Continue Reading at GameSpot

Flight Simulator 2020 Easter Egg Makes Old Flight Sim Titles Playable In Game

Microsoft Flight Simulator dropped its 40th anniversary update on November 11, and keen fans have already unearthed a cool new easter egg celebrating the series' long history--emulated versions of the first four games in the series, which can be played right in your virtual cockpit. As reported by Eurogamer, the easter egg was first picked up by Redditor HughesMDflyer4, who found the games hidden in the cockpit of the Diamond DA62. The easter egg is enabled by flicking the ELT switch, which then brings up the games on the cockpit's Garmin screen. Players can switch between Flight Simulator 1.0, 2.0, 3.0, and 4.0 using buttons at the top of the screen. There are no restrictions on when you load up this little in-game treat, meaning you can fly a plane in one of the retro flight sim programs, while also flying your Flight Simulator 2020 plane. Already fans have used the easter egg to attempt challenges such as landing planes at the same airport in both games at once.Continue Reading at GameSpot

Paramount's Yellowstone Surpasses House Of The Dragon In Season 5 Premiere Ratings

Paramount's Yellowstone Surpasses House Of The Dragon In Season 5 Premiere Ratings

The Paramount Network's Yellowstone premiered its fifth season this week, and to massive ratings--better than Yellowstone Season 4 and better than HBO's Game of Thrones spinoff House of the Dragon, Variety reports. Yellowstone Season 5 premiered on Sunday across the Paramount Network, CMT, TV Land, and Pop; these networks have done this for previous seasons as well, Variety notes. On its chief platform, Paramount Network, Yellowstone Season 5 lassoed 8.8 million users, up from 8 million for the Season 4 premiere. Across all four networks, though, that number climbs to 10.3 million, which would seem to suggest that all of the show's growth took place on Paramount Network. Encore airings increased that number to 12.1 million viewers. Compared this to HBO's House of the Dragon, which airs on HBO and HBO Max, this is especially impressive. HBO's Game of Thrones spinoff drew in 9.99 million viewers across the two services when it premiered in August. House of the Dragon episodes averaged closer to 30 million when accounting for users catching up later in the season, encore airings on HBO, and things like that. There's no data yet on how Yellowstone compares to that number.Continue Reading at GameSpot

Star Wars Series Andor Will Air First Two Episodes On FX, Hulu, And Other Disney Networks For Thanksgiving Preview

Disney+'s Rogue One prequel series, Andor, is picking up a ton of critical acclaim, and even some early Emmy talk for the latest episode, "One Way Out." However, compared to Star Wars spin-off series The Mandalorian and Obi-Wan Kenobi, Andor hasn't exactly put pop culture in a vice grip. That could change next week though. On the Star Wars official Twitter, it was announced Monday that the first two episodes of Andor will also air on Disney-owned ABC, Hulu, FX, and Freeform starting November 23, right before Thanksgiving. More are joining the Rebellion. @ABCNetwork, @FXNetworks, @FreeformTV and @Hulu will air the first two episodes of #Andor starting 11/23. pic.twitter.com/fZyuzOP2kz — Star Wars | Andor & Tales of the Jedi On Disney+ (@starwars) November 14, 2022 Now unless you're sports or a giant parade, that's usually a black hole for anything else during this time. On November 23, the episodes will air on ABC. The next day, Thanksgiving, you can watch them on FX. On Black Friday, you'll be able to take a break from your shopping to watch them on Freeform. If none of those dates work for you, you're still in luck. The episodes will stream on Hulu from November 23 until December 7.Continue Reading at GameSpot

How To Stop God Of War Ragnarok Companions From Solving Puzzles For You

God of War Ragnarok isn't just a game of familial bonding and bone-crunching brutality, as it often throws puzzles at Kratos and Atreus. Similar to 2018's God of War, these cerebral roadblocks usually require you to use recently acquired tools and abilities to solve them, and they make for a fun breather after the more intense combat sequences. The problem here though, as several people have pointed out online, is that God of War Ragnarok doesn't give you too much time to solve these puzzles before one of your companions starts to offer solutions. It's worth noting that there is an option to extend the time allotted to you to figure out how to successfully complete these mysteries, but for some people, it's not long enough. Margot Robbie's Pirates Of The Caribbean Movie Is Not Going Forward, She Says

The new Pirates of the Caribbean movie starring Margot Robbie is not going ahead at Disney, it seems. Robbie told Vanity Fair that she had been working on a "female-led" Pirates film for some time, but it's not going ahead due to a lack of interest from Disney. "We had an idea and we were developing it for a while, ages ago, to have more of a female-led--not totally female-led, but just a different kind of story--which we thought would've been really cool, but I guess they don't want to do it," she said about Disney. The film was apparently going to be written by Birds of Prey writer Christina Hodson. There was reportedly a second new film in the works being developed by Craig Mazin (Chernobyl, The Last of Us). Jerry Bruckheimer, who produced the Pirates movies over the years, said in May this year that both projects were still in development, but according to Robbie, plans might have changed since then for her film specifically.Continue Reading at GameSpot

Meet The Experts Who Bring Your Old CRT TVs Back To Life

Meet The Experts Who Bring Your Old CRT TVs Back To Life

If you're a gamer of a certain age, you likely have fond memories of playing your favorite retro console in front of a boxy TV. However, while many gamers have kept their old consoles around--or bought them back from garage sales and eBay auctions--CRT (cathode ray tube) TVs are largely an abandoned relic of the past. You can likely find dozens of examples gathering dust at your local thrift store, garbage dump, or perhaps even your grandmother's house. But are they actually worse than your cheap LED replacement, or do they deserve a second chance at life? According to the enthusiasts who work tirelessly to repair them, they're more than just a relic--they're the best way to play decades of classic games. When CRT enthusiast Steve Nutter plugged in his old consoles to show his young son the games he grew up on, he was utterly dismayed by the results. His beloved N64 games looked awful on his LCD TV, with washed-out colors, a flickering image, and a tremendous amount of input lag. He turned to the internet for advice, where he found out one of the worst-kept secrets in retro gaming--that an old TV is essentially required for any original console setup. Luckily, Nutter had an old Toshiba lying around, which he was able to resurrect for his nostalgic purposes. As a trained engineer, he found himself compelled by the intricate machinery of these displays. He would watch YouTube videos made by hackers and phone "phreakers" who enjoyed playing around with the machines, slowly gathering his base of knowledge. Over time, Nutter's interest in CRTs grew to such an extent that he started scanning Craigslist and bidding on eBay auctions, searching for the truly desirable CRT displays like the Sony PVM and BVMs. And one day, his luck changed: a high-end PVM was on sale for a reasonable price only a short drive away. What he found changed his life almost overnight.Continue Reading at GameSpot

Super Mario Galaxy Showed Us Something The Series Hadn't Before, And Hasn't Since

Super Mario Galaxy Showed Us Something The Series Hadn't Before, And Hasn't Since

Super Mario Galaxy is celebrating its 15-year anniversary today, November 12, 2022. Below, we take a look at how its unique setting gave it a special sense of wonder that set it apart from other Mario games. Mario Galaxy offers a melancholy vision of the stars, far from the Saturday morning surrealism of other games in the series. Of course, it's not like its predecessors and follow-ups don't have their own unique charms--consider the sun-soaked daze of Sunshine or the whirlwind tour of Odyssey. However, Galaxy offers an existential, joyful melancholy. It blows up the scale of Mario's levels beyond kingdoms and history, into the (meta)physical. Galaxy centers on the cosmic interconnection of life and death, and the scattered, unconscious possibility of rebirth. Sure, other Mario games have flickers of darkness, conversations with enemy shy guys on trains or Yoshis left behind in the abyss. But Mario Galaxy offers something more fundamental. Its sadness is not a tonal dalliance or a joke or an accidental effect of colliding mechanics. Galaxy is quite literally set in a dark, vast universe, where only specific pinpoints of light are habitable. In time, these points of light will die, and others will take their place. In short, it's a universe much like our own, albeit filtered through a whimsical, cartoon logic.Continue Reading at GameSpot

Kevin Conroy Defined Batman For All Those That Followed

Kevin Conroy Defined Batman For All Those That Followed

James Bond fans will argue until they're blue in the face which actor is the best 007. But when it comes to Batman, there is no argument: Kevin Conroy, who voiced Batman for nearly 30 years beginning with Batman: The Animated Series, is unquestionably the best. On this, Batman fans are in near universal agreement. Conroy passed away this week at age 66, but leaves behind a permanent mark on the legendary comic book hero. When Conroy stepped into the role, Batman had already been around for over half a century, and already had two iconic live-action performances in Adam West and Michael Keaton. In fact the timing of the series made it almost look like a cash-in on Tim Burton's 1989 Batman film. But the work that artist Bruce Timm, writer Paul Dini, and voice actor Kevin Conroy did with the character swept those portrayals and those that would follow right off the board. It's not that any of the other actors who have played the character are bad. Nearly every one of them brings something fresh to the role. But Conroy's voice work helped to define Batman and Bruce Wayne as separate, individual people.Continue Reading at GameSpot

The 8BitDo Ultimate Is Even Better Than The Switch Pro Controller

The 8BitDo Ultimate Is Even Better Than The Switch Pro Controller

Third-party controller manufacturer 8BitDo has released no shortage of great controllers for Nintendo Switch and other platforms, but many of them fall into the category of "situational" options–controllers that are ideal for certain games and genres. The 8BitDo Ultimate Bluetooth Switch controller is a different beast. Not only does it have superb ergonomics, pro-style features, and customization galore, but it also comes with a charging stand and can connect via Bluetooth or 2.4GHz. The robust feature set makes the 8BitDo Ultimate the priciest traditional gamepad from the manufacturer yet at $70. Yet, that's the same price as Nintendo's official Pro controller. For the first time since the Switch launched five years ago, there's a controller for docked mode that surpasses the Pro controller. If you're looking for a new Switch controller, the 8BitDo Ultimate is the one to buy. One of the obvious reasons why the 8BitDo Ultimate is an excellent alternative to the Switch Pro controller is its form factor and button layout. The Ultimate has the same general layout with offset sticks and ergonomic handles. Prior to the Ultimate, 8BitDo's premium Switch controllers (such as the Pro 2) had aligned joysticks like PlayStation controllers. The Pro 2 was and still is great for many types of games, but its form factor made it excel particularly with retro games. The Ultimate is slightly more compact than Nintendo's Pro controller, though it still feels natural to use, even as someone who has spent five years with the Pro controller. That said, if you have large hands, it may take some getting used to or feel a bit cramped compared to the Pro controller or even an Xbox controller.Continue Reading at GameSpot

God Of War Ragnarok Mine Puzzle Guide

God Of War Ragnarok Mine Puzzle Guide

In God of War Ragnarok, an early mine puzzle in Svartalfheim may prove to be the first time you'll be stopped dead in your tracks. This tricky puzzle demands Kratos use his frosty Leviathan Axe in a clever new way, but without much of a tutorial from the game, you're likely to get stuck. Fear not: We're here to help. Here's how to solve the mine puzzle in God of War Ragnarok. The Quest for Tyr mine puzzle You'll encounter this mine puzzle during the main story mission titled "The Quest for Tyr." Kratos and Atreus will be exploring the realm of Svartalfheim when they come a a mineshaft that includes several manmade waterways. You'll need to redirect this water in order to turn a crank that will allow you to cross an opening, but the trick that "unlocks" the solution is something you'll not have done yet in-game. Follow along with pictures below, or just follow our words. First, you'll want to send Atreus up the climbable wall next to the entrance, which you do by looking toward it and pressing Square when prompted. Next, take your axe and throw it at the left waterway so that the icy collision creates a dam right after where the wheel is, causing the water to spill over. Tell Atreus to spin the crank he's standing next to and several chunks of ore will come floating down the waterway, colliding with your frosty impromptu dam. Now you can recall your axe and the ore-made dam will continue to reroute the water onto the wheel, moving a platform to the middle of the room.Continue Reading at GameSpot

Destiny 2's Telesto Has Achieved Sentience, Is Currently On A Power Trip

One of the most infamous Exotic weapons in Destiny 2, Telesto, has been acting strange this week. Well, stranger than usual, as after the weekly reset and patch there were numerous reports of the weapon behaving differently. Inside of Destiny 2, Telesto is a powerful energy weapon that fires a tight spread of shots that will stick to a target and then detonate afterward. As of this week, Telesto appeared to be on the verge of breaking down judging by the sparks and smoke pouring out of it, and it had changed its attack to a slow spread of projectiles. Destiny 2 players were convinced that these spreads copied the patterns of famous star constellations, and it wasn't unusual to spot players firing into the night sky as they tried to find a match in the stars. Now, let my true strength empower all who would wield my form! Let the age of Telesto begin! — Destiny 2 (@DestinyTheGame) November 9, 2022 The Vanguard. Savathûn. The Witness. The Nine. What are they before the might of Telesto? — Destiny 2 (@DestinyTheGame) November 9, 2022 Things got even weirder when the AI inhabiting Telesto seemingly took over Bungie's social media accounts and began broadcasting its intention to ascend beyond being a mere weapon. Right now, Telesto has evolved once again and now the weapon is working better than ever. It'll still annihilate any enemy in its path, but now the Void-energy orbs provide more of a kick, as eliminating a foe with Telesto will spawn more destructive spheres from their remains.Continue Reading at GameSpot

Respawn Just Released The First Episode Of A New Apex Legends Docuseries

Part of what makes Apex Legends stand out from its competitors is Respawn Entertainment's focus on creating three-dimensional, believable characters. While is Apex far from the first hero shooter to feature a diverse roster of playable characters, Apex delves much deeper into narrative design than your average live-service shooter, giving each character a complex backstory that players can relate to and identify with. So how exactly does Respawn go about bringing these characters and their intricate storylines to life? The Titanfall 2 developer answered that question today with the release of the first episode of Inside The Studio, a new docuseries that details the complex process of creating Apex's legends. Catalyst may have joined @PlayApex just last week, but her journey was written in the stars years ago. ✨ Learn more about the collaborative process that is creating a Legend in Respawn's first episode of "Inside The Studio." pic.twitter.com/8kVi7z6DR5 — Respawn (@Respawn) November 9, 2022 The five-minute video gives players a better idea of what goes on behind the scenes when it comes to legend creation, focusing on Season 15's debut legend, Catalyst. In it, lead writer Ashley Reed (who inspired Ash's human name) reveals that the game's developers knew from the beginning that they wanted a trans woman to join the legend squad, and were toying with the idea of ferrofluid-based powers for a while as they tried to come up with a compelling backstory. But it wasn't until former Respawn game designer Samantha Kalman (the mind behind Storm Point's delightful, murderbot-infested IMC Armories) pitched the concept of a "techno-witch" that Catalyst's personality truly started coming together. Kalman herself is a trans woman and practicing witch, and her significant influence on Catalyst's design is obvious. But of course, the creation of every legend is a group effort, and no legend is complete without a talented voice actor.Continue Reading at GameSpot

Skyfall Director Sam Mendes Explains How Production Delays Helped The James Bond Film

Skyfall was released 10 years ago today and made a James Bond franchise first with a $1 billion global box office and went home with two Academy Awards. It brought Bond back to the super spy we've known for decades, complete with Astin Martin and Q Branch. The film wasn't without its problems though. It was coming off a lukewarm outing with Quantum of Solace and was filmed during a time when studio MGM was facing an uncertain future, forcing production to take an immediate break. The situation mirrored by what had happened between The Living Daylights and GoldenEye almost 20 years prior, leaving some to wonder if Bond could still deliver at the box office. Director Sam Mendes revealed to The Hollywood Reporter how he and his team were able to pull off one of the biggest Bond movies ever, in the midst of a long delay, and how it cemented Daniel Craig's legacy as that character.Continue Reading at GameSpot

You Can Play Dark Souls Remastered Online Again On PC

Servers for the PC Dark Souls games were shut down earlier this year, and developer From Software remained silent for months about their return. Now, the servers for the PC version are finally back, but those for the original Dark Souls: Prepare to Die Edition will remain dead in the water. Online features for the PC version of #DarkSouls: Remastered have been reactivated. Thank you once again for your patience, understanding, and support. pic.twitter.com/IZ8lsfx3Tx — Dark Souls (@DarkSoulsGame) November 9, 2022 Back in January, From Software took down the servers for the entire Dark Souls series after fans discovered an exploit that allows hackers to take control of an opponent's computer. However, it took Dark Souls streamer The Grim Sleeper demonstrating the exploit in action in order to finally spur From Software to fix it. Dark Souls Remastered was the last of the trilogy to enjoy restored multiplayer, as Dark Souls 2 and 3 were restored earlier this year, in reverse order. Recently, From Software announced that the original port of Dark Souls, Prepare to Die Edition, will not be restored, due to "an aging system." While that edition of the game is beloved by certain fans, warts and all, it's arguably one of the most-maligned PC ports ever, due to its lack of support for modern resolutions and frame rate cap of 30fps. Fanmade mod "DSfix" corrected many of that version's shortcomings, but it seems that the famous invasions of the past will remain sealed.Continue Reading at GameSpot

God Of War Ragnarok: Draugr Hole Locations

God Of War Ragnarok: Draugr Hole Locations

God of War Ragnarok is teeming with optional objectives that span across multiple realms, but one of the earliest you're likely to come across is a quest (known as a Favor here) that tasks you with seeking out Draugr Holes. Each of these spawns a boss called The Hateful that you must destroy to close the hole, and you'll receive a Chaos Spark for each one you defeat. When you've closed all six holes, you'll combine the Chaos Sparks into a Chaos Flame, which can be used to upgrade your Blades of Chaos. There are only six Draugr Holes to find in the game, but they unveil themselves rather slowly throughout your adventure, so you're not likely to wrap this quest up until fairly late in the game. They're all fairly easy to spot as you make your way through each realm, but if you've missed a few along the way, we've got the locations of all six Draugr Holes for you below. Draugr Hole locations Here are all six Draugr Hole locations with maps to help you nail down exactly where to find them.Continue Reading at GameSpot

Ryan Reynolds Talks Deadpool 3 And Getting Hugh Jackman On Board

Marvel fans rejoiced back in September when Ryan Reynolds dropped the bombshell that Hugh Jackman would come back one last time to play Wolverine and join Reynolds in Marvel Studios' Deadpool 3. Jackman had previously said he had retired from the role with the critically-acclaimed Logan back in 2017, but it didn't take much to convince Jackman to return apparently. While promoting his upcoming Apple TV+ Christmas musical, Spirited, Reynolds told Collider what went into getting Jackman to return to his trademark role, one he's had for over 20 years. "I always wanted Hugh to come back. My first meeting with Kevin Feige when Disney bought Fox years ago, maybe three years ago, or three and a half, four years ago, I'm not sure, was about doing a movie with the two of us, a Deadpool Wolverine movie. And that was not possible at the time. And then Hugh just happened to call at that perfect moment and express that he'd be interested in coming back and doing this one more time."Continue Reading at GameSpot

Diablo Immortal Will Finally Let Players Craft Set Items

Diablo Immortal Will Finally Let Players Craft Set Items

Diablo Immortal's latest update will finally let players craft set items, with Blizzard stating the change comes after "a deluge of feedback" from players. Once the update goes live on November 9 in the Americas (November 8 for the rest of the world), players will be able to craft specific Set items by using a new crafting material called Fabled Wisp, which are gained from salvaging unwanted Set items. "We have been listening to a deluge of feedback regarding players having a hard time finding specific Set items," Blizzard writes in the patch notes. "It is our belief that adding the ability to craft specific Set items will provide a path for players to reliably complete their Sets."Continue Reading at GameSpot

Nintendo Switch Sales Pass 114 Million, But Company Expects To Sell Fewer Units This Fiscal Year

Nintendo Switch sales have continued to climb, as 114.3 million consoles have shipped out as of September 30. These new numbers came from Nintendo's results for the first 6 months of the current fiscal year, which the company says saw net sales increase by 5% to $4.5 billion and net profit go up 34% to $1.58 billion. While small improvements in sourcing semiconductors and other components have been noted, Nintendo still expects to sell fewer Switch consoles during this fiscal year and it has revised its outlook for the months ahead. During the first six months of its current fiscal year, 19.2% fewer Switches were sold compared to the previous period, with Nintendo citing various factors such as the global semiconductor shortage. Nintendo is predicting a conservative 19 million hardware sales in total for this period, although the release of a new mainline Pokemon game during the holiday season will likely see the console--available in three distinct models--sell extremely well during this quarter. Nintendo has also steadily released a number of exclusive games this year, all of which have been critical and financial success stories.Continue Reading at GameSpot

Diablo 4's World Tiers Will Be Gatekept By Powerful World Bosses

Diablo IV's World Tier difficulty system won't allow players to increase the game's difficulty with the mere press of a button, instead requiring players defeat powerful world bosses in order to move to higher World Tiers. The new information about how Diablo IV's endgame works comes via an interview with IGN, where Diablo IV game director Joe Shely and Diablo general manager Rod Fergusson dive deep on the game's World Tier system and all that it entails. Players will have access to World Tier 1 or World Tier 2 from the very start of the game, with the first tier designed for those new to the Diablo series and those who may just want to enjoy the game's story without worrying too much about the difficulty of combat. World Tier 2 is for players who want a little more challenge. Starting at level 50, players will then be able to start progressing through additional World Tiers, with each new World Tier increasing the game's difficulty but also rewarding better and more rare loot.Continue Reading at GameSpot

Apex Legends' Catalyst Is Giving Tarot Readings On Twitter

Apex Legends Season 15: Eclipse is finally underway, and to help players get to know this season's debut legend a little better, Respawn is allowing Catalyst to perform tarot readings for players. The announcement was made via a Tweet from the official Apex Legends Twitter account inviting players to draw a card and (possibly) catch a glimpse of their future. Well then, I think it’s time for a little light reading. Think of something happening in your life—a situation, a question that has occupied your mind—and LIKE ❤ this tweet to draw a card. Let’s see the future you could make. pic.twitter.com/z1RxPT5gfU — Apex Legends (@PlayApex) November 4, 2022 To get your free tarot reading, simply like the tweet. After doing so, you will automatically be tagged in a tweet from the Apex Legends Twitter account and shown a random tarot card along with its meaning. All of the cards are Apex-themed, with the Major Arcana featuring art of Apex Legends characters and locales. For instance, The Moon card depicts Boreas' partially destroyed moon (and the location of this season's new map), Cleo. Naturally, Death features Revenant holding his Heirloom Weapon, a scythe called Dead Man's Curve. The Magician card appropriately pictures Seer in a pose that indicating he's about to put on a show. We couldn't resist taking a crack at it ourselves, and decided to try out a reading. After liking the tweet, we pulled The Sun, a card that's generally regarded as positive, and sometimes indicates future luck or a positive state of mind. The card itself featured Crypto and Wattson, and our fortune read, "Well, well, looks like things are going … well. Move forward with confidence and optimism. There's a win in your future--don't let anyone tell you otherwise."Continue Reading at GameSpot

Xbox Games Boss Says New Fable Is Being Developed By A Team That Brings Quality And Passion To The Series

Xbox Games Boss Says New Fable Is Being Developed By A Team That Brings Quality And Passion To The Series

A new Fable game from Forza Horizon developer Playground Games sounds like an odd match-up, but according to Xbox Game Studios boss Matt Booty, the developer brought key elements to its vision that managed to erase any skepticism he had. Speaking on the Friends Per Second vlogcast (featuring GameSpot's Lucy James), Booty explained that Playground Games brought a mix of high quality, crafting, and attention to detail to its Fable pitch, as well as plenty of love for the franchise. "They had a particular passion for the IP, and they also demonstrated that they understand what the heart and soul of Fable is about, and how they can bring it forward for today's sensibilities," Booty said. "Some of the things that I've seen are so encouraging. They've got a great technology base and they've just got such a demonstrated commitment to crafting quality. During some of the first reviews, I shared a little bit of skepticism, but they've since put that to rest and I'm excited for everybody to see it when we're ready to show stuff." The Fable franchise has been in limbo since the last entry in the series, the free-to-play digital collectible card game Fable Fortune, was released back in 2018. At one point the series looked set to make a comeback with Fable Legends, a co-op action-RPG where a team of players would explore dangerous locations while another player acted as the dungeon-master, but this project was canceled in 2016 when developer Lions Head was closed down.Continue Reading at GameSpot

Perfect Dark Reboot: Xbox Boss Gives A New Update

Perfect Dark Reboot: Xbox Boss Gives A New Update

A new Perfect Dark game was announced in December 2020, but since then, developer The Initiative has gone through a turbulent period that saw the studio lose several of its more senior staff members. Since then, the developer has been slowly rebuilding while dealing with the challenges of the coronavirus pandemic, as Xbox Studios boss Matt Booty explained in a recent episode of Friends Per Second (which also features GameSpot's Lucy James). "I think one of the most difficult things of the last few years has been filing a big game on the scale of a Halo or a Battlefield during the conditions that we had. Number two has got to be starting up a new studio," Booty said, explaining how The Initiative has gone through an employee reboot as of late. "Number two has got to be starting up a new studio. You don't have the shared history, you don't have the people that have worked together for five and ten years. We were doing a lot of of experimenting with remote and hybrid, how we could attract talent, some of it worked, some of it didn't. It has been less leadership changes and more just the work of building a studio. It's a brand new studio." Tomb Raider studio Crystal Dynamics (and one of the latest acquisitions of Embracer Group) is also helping out on Perfect Dark alongside The Initiative, with Booty describing the partnership as co-development and not outsourcing.Continue Reading at GameSpot

All Call Of Duty: MW2 Vault Edition Owners Are Getting Lots Of Double XP

Activision has announced a special bonus for everyone who bought the most expensive version of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II. The company said on Twitter that everyone who owns the $100 Vault edition of the game will get 10 hours of double XP tokens and 10 hours of double weapon XP tokens. Activision is doing this due to "confusion" about the exclusive reward that Vault edition owners were promised. All Vault edition owners should receive the tokens within the next 48 hours. The issue here is that tokens were originally given only to people who bought the Vault edition through the in-game store of another Call of Duty title, like last year's Vanguard. But now, everyone who buys the Vault edition, through another title's store or the official platform marketplace on their preferred platform, will receive the double XP tokens.Continue Reading at GameSpot

Overwatch 2 – Zenyatta Hero Guide

Overwatch 2 – Zenyatta Hero Guide

Zenyatta in Overwatch 2 has a powerful new kick, but remains the complex hybrid support character he always was. Long-range healing and attacks make him useful not just for restoring HP, but for taking down threats as well. However, he’s easily cornered and poses little threat up close, thanks to low mobility and HP. Here's how to play Zenyatta effectively in Overwatch 2. Zenyatta overview Zenyatta is a unique support hero with some of the strongest DPS potential among his fellow healers. His projectile orbs deal a significant amount of damage, especially when charged, and one of his healing abilities has an alternate form that reduces enemy defense--perfect for keeping enemies off you or helping another DPS take down difficult foes. He also has a healing ability that works at a distance, so long as you keep your ally in sight, and Zenyatta’s ultimate ability heals an enormous amount of HP over the course of a few seconds. What Zenyatta doesn’t have is much recourse if an enemy gets close. His new snap kick melee is handy, but not foolproof, and he has no movement skills to help escape in a pinch.Continue Reading at GameSpot

Insider Gaming notes that it isn't clear whether The Crew branding has been completely abandoned, or if the final game will have a title like The Crew: Motorfest. Minecraft's Next Big Update Will Add Camels, Craftable Bamboo, And More

Minecraft has announced its next big update for 2023. So far only referred to as update 1.20, it'll bring camels, craftable bamboo items, new default skins, and more to vanilla Minecraft, as reported by Eurogamer. Unlike past updates, the upcoming one doesn't have a name yet, and to avoid overpromising has only revealed new features that will definitely make it into the game. The new update was announced at Minecraft Live over the weekend, with the Minecraft team adding first and foremost that it has decided not to reveal planned features for the update unless they're definitely being implemented--adding that there has been a tendency to overpromise and underdeliver in past updates. As such only a few new additions have been announced, with the promise of more to be revealed through the rest of the year. The hosts started the Minecraft Live presentation by revealing seven new default skins that will join the two already in the game, Minecraft Steve and Alex. The new skins are designed with further diversity in mind, allowing players to pick a default they feel better represents them as a person.Continue Reading at GameSpot

Overwatch 2 – Soldier 76 Hero Guide

Overwatch 2 – Soldier 76 Hero Guide

If you want a well-rounded attacker who can withstand a few hits, look no further than Soldier 76 in Overwatch 2. This jack-of-all-trades dishes out plenty of damage, sprints without cooldown, and can even heal himself in a pinch. He might not be as flashy as some heroes, but he can still lead the charge and change the battle in your team’s favor. Here's how to play Soldier 76. Soldier 76 overview Soldier 76’s setup includes a bit of everything and makes him one of the most well-rounded DPS characters in Overwatch 2. His pulse rifle is your standard gun that should feel familiar to anyone who’s played non-Overwatch shooters before, with just enough recoil to keep him from being too powerful. He can sprint without a cooldown period, and he even has an ability that generates a biotic healing field for you and your teammates. Soldier 76’s ultimate removes the need for aiming and automatically targets any opponent in his sight. Soldier 76 abilities * Heavy Pulse Rifle: Fully-automatic rifle. Fires nine rounds per second * Helix Rockets: Fires a burst of small explosives that damage enemies in a small area. Can damage self as well * Sprint: Increases Soldier 76’s movement speed by 50 percent * Biotic Field: Generates a healing field that lasts for five seconds and cannot be destroyed * Tactical Visor: Automatically locks on targets within sight, reloads Pulse Rifle ammo, and reduces reload time. Does not apply to Helix Rockets To the frontline Soldier 76 is a frontline hero who can press the enemy, provide cover for your team’s other attackers, and help turn the tide of battle by harassing healers and enemy attackers alike. Pair him with a sturdy tank in a strategic location to quickly gain control of the battlefield and provide opportunities for your other attacker to flank the enemy team.Continue Reading at GameSpot

Digital Foundry Calls Overwatch 2 More Of A Revamp Than A Sequel

Digital Foundry Calls Overwatch 2 More Of A Revamp Than A Sequel

Digital Foundry has a verdict on Overwatch 2, and its conclusions are clear: It's a beautiful game that runs great on both console and PC. However, the site says though the changes offered are a net positive for the game, it's not quite as ambitious as you might expect. Writer Thomas Morgan praises the game's new 5v5 format, as well as its colorful new maps, particularly Paraiso and New Queen Street. Though he notes the many improvements to the game's graphics claimed by Blizzard--including better particle effects, shaders, cloth physics, fog, and more--Morgan describes these changes as "fine tweaks" rather than generational leaps. That said, he praises the game's improved shading as a major difference-maker, as well as the revamped character models for returning heroes. He judges the gap in visual quality between the old and new models to be quite distinct. He also details the significant technical changes to the game, including the addition of HDR and 4K support for next-gen consoles. The bottom line is that Overwatch 2 runs well on all platforms, except Nintendo Switch, which suffers sub-30fps drops. I think everyone expects that at this point, though.Continue Reading at GameSpot

Here's PT Running On An Unmodified PS5

Hideo Kojima's Silent Hills experiment PT has largely been unavailable on current-gen consoles for a few years now, but video game modder Lance McDonald has managed to get the spooky survival-horror game running on a regular PS5. The catch here is that to get PT running on an unmodified PS5, McDonald needed a second PS5 that had been through the jailbreaking process. In a new video, McDonald shows how the process works. You'll need to already own PT on your PlayStation account, log in to your account on a jailbroken PS5, and download the game through that system. Copy it over to a USB drive, insert that USB into your regular PS5, and you're good to go. It's actually quite easy to do, if you have a spare modified PS5 lying around. As a reminder, doing any of this is against Sony's terms of service, so do so at your own risk. I'm live on twitch playing P.T. on a PS5. Konami specifically told PlayStation to mark P.T. as "not compatible" with PlayStation 5 to stop this exact thing. let's find out how "incompatible" it really is together and I'll explain how I did this COME NOW -> https://t.co/qDYEQN4VLs pic.twitter.com/8749UoOe34 — Lance McDonald (@manfightdragon) October 17, 2022 Hideo Kojima recently marked the eighth anniversary of PT with a quick tweet, posting an image of the cover art from the secret Silent Hill game project. Fallout: New Vegas Studio Would Love To Make Another Fallout Game

The head of Obsidian Entertainment, the California-based studio that developed Fallout: New Vegas, has said the company would jump at the chance to make another Fallout game someday. Feargus Urquhart told DualShockers plainly, "Of course, if we ever got the opportunity to make another Fallout game, we'd make it." Urquhart said it's now a matter of if the opportunity arises, and recent events may suggest Obsidian has a greater chance of making it happen, though nothing is confirmed right now. Obsidian was a private company until 2018 when Microsoft acquired the studio. Microsoft later bought ZeniMax, which owns Bethesda, so now Obsidian and Fallout are under the same roof. "I hung around at Interplay for probably an extra year because I wanted to work on Fallout more. I love Fallout," Urquhart told DualShockers.Continue Reading at GameSpot

Original Bayonetta Voice Actress Urges Fans To Boycott Bayonetta 3 Due To Reported Low Wages

Original Bayonetta voice actress Hellena Taylor urged fans to boycott Bayonetta 3 after she revealed how much she was offered to reprise her role as the eponymous character but ultimately turned down. She didn’t return to voice Bayonetta because she claims to have only been offered $4,000 for working on the entire game. "The Bayonetta franchise made an approximated $450 million, and that’s not including merchandise," Taylor claimed in a video on Twitter. "As an actor, I trained for a total of seven and a half years. Three years at the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art, LAMDA, with voice coach Barbara Berkery, and four and a half years with the legendary Larry Moss in Los Angeles. And what did they think this was worth? What did they offer to pay me? The final offer to do the whole game as a buyout, flat rate, was $4,000 USD. She went on to say that the rate she was offered was an insult to her and was only asking for a livable wage commensurate with her experience. Taylor then encouraged fans to take the money they would have spent on the game and donate it to charity.Continue Reading at GameSpot
