Crystal Dynamics' next Tomb Raider game will see Amazon providing support as a publisher. "Amazon Games and Crystal Dynamics today announced they have reached an agreement under which Crystal Dynamics will develop a new multiplatform Tomb Raider title, with Amazon Games providing full support and publishing the game globally," a press release stated. "The as-yet-untitled new Tomb Raider is a single-player, narrative-driven adventure that continues Lara Croft's story in the Tomb Raider series." Crystal Dynamics was acquired by Embracer Group from Square Enix back in May. Following news of the sale, Crystal Dynamics then announced the development of a new Tomb Raider at the State of Unreal event. As the press release reiterates, Tomb Raider wil be made using Unreal Engine 5 and is still in early development.Continue Reading at GameSpot

Arcade Paradise Adds First Licensed Game, And It Fits Right In

Arcade Paradise Adds First Licensed Game, And It Fits Right In

Arcade Paradise was one of the most surprising games of 2022, and it was a personal favorite of a few of us on the GameSpot team. Thus far, all of the arcade cabinets in the game have been original works created by Nosebleed Interactive, but that's changing with the game's first licensed cabinet: Kung Fury. "Nosebleed Interactive has collaborated with award-winning indie studio Hello There Games, creators of the critically acclaimed AVICII Invector, to bring the very first licensed in-game cabinet available for Arcade Paradise," Nosebleed said in an update on the game's Steam page. The new cabinet is available as DLC for $3, giving you yet another way to spruce up the laundromat-turned-arcade. It's out now on PC and will hit all consoles on January 12, 2023. Kung Fury: Street Rage is essentially a Streets of Rage homage, complete with four unique characters and a synth soundtrack. The game's inclusion makes a lot of sense, as the original titles available in Arcade Paradise thus far were almost all riffs or outright parodies of real games like Pac-Man and Dance Dance Revolution.Continue Reading at GameSpot

Henry Cavill Won't Be Returning As Superman

Henry Cavill Won't Be Returning As Superman

Barely two months after Henry Cavill announced he would be returning to the role of Superman, subsequently stepping back from Netflix's The Witcher series, the actor has shared that he won't be returning to play the DC superhero, actually. The news comes as James Gunn announced his first Superman project, which would focus on the hero in his younger years. In his first big move since stepping up to lead DC's cinematic universe James Gunn will be writing a Superman prequel film that will follow a young Clark Kent during his time as a Daily Planet reporter, THR reports. "In the initial stages, our story will be focusing on an earlier part of Superman’s life, so the character will not be played by Henry Cavill," Gunn explained. "But we just had a great meeting with Henry and we’re big fans and we talked about a number of exciting possibilities to work together in the future."Continue Reading at GameSpot

Unreal Tournament 3 X Will Bring Popular 2000s Arena Shooter Back For Free On PC

The Steam page for Unreal Tournament 3, which had been long dormant since the game launched in 2007, saw an unexpected update: The game is now called Unreal Tournament 3 X, and it will be completely free to all players with no in-game purchases. The description of the game remains largely unchanged from the original 2007 release, with the game offering deathmatch, team deathmatch, capture the flag, and other multiplayer modes along with a single-player campaign. The page adds the new client will feature cross-play between players on Steam, Epic Games Store, and GOG.com, which means all PC players can connect and play together. The showdown with the Necris will soon emerge again. The new listing also reveals that this new free-to-download version of Unreal Tournament III will be the same as it was in 2007--what the page specifically describes as "the fully-featured, award-winning first-person shooter you fell in love with"--but it will not feature microtransactions of any kind.Continue Reading at GameSpot

CoD: Warzone 2 Mid-Season Patch Notes Include Major QoL Updates And Nerf For Overpowered AI

CoD: Warzone 2 Mid-Season Patch Notes Include Major QoL Updates And Nerf For Overpowered AI

Call of Duty: Warzone 2's Season 1 Reloaded update is live, and Raven Software has revealed the patch notes for the big mid-season update. Season 1 Reloaded adds two more operators and a new assault rifle to the battle royale. There are also several quality-of-life updates, which include changes to XP token menu, bug fixes, and nerfs to riot shields and the game's overpowered AI. According to the patch notes, the developer made general improvements to lighting and shadows across several major points of Interest on the Al Mazrah map. A new building location named Building 21 was also added for DMZ mode, but players must discover how to locate and access the new area. While the number of active Stronghold locations has been increased from three to five, the AI enemies should no longer feel overpowered here. Their damage per bullet was reduced by 26%, and the number of AI per site was reduced by 50%. Additionally, AI reinforcements were nerfed to give more time between waves of enemies, and the size of the waves were reduced by 30%.Continue Reading at GameSpot

Iron Man Is Joining The National Film Registry

Iron Man Is Joining The National Film Registry

The Library of Congress has unveiled its list of 25 films that have been chosen to be preserved in the National Film Registry this year. Among them are Disney's The Little Mermaid, John Waters' Hairspray, When Harry Met Sally, Brian De Palma's adaptation of Carrie, Cyrano de Bergerac (1950), SuperFly, House Party, and Marvel's Iron Man. Iron Man will finally join other comic book blockbusters The Dark Knight and Superman, as some of the most important movies ever made. In order to qualify, films must be at least 10 years old and be "culturally, historically or aesthetically" significant, and "must be preserved for future generations." Seeing how Iron Man launched an entire universe and generate billions upon billions of box office numbers, and changed the way people make movie franchises, it's well-earned. "Iron Man was the very first film Marvel Studios independently produced. It was the first film that we had all of the creative control and oversight on and it was really make or break for the studio," Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige said in an interview (via The Wrap). "All of our favorite movies are the ones that we watch over and over again and that we grow up with. The notion that here we are, almost 15 years after the release of Iron Man, and to have it join the Film Registry tells us it has stood the test of time and that it is still meaningful to audiences around the world."Continue Reading at GameSpot

The Witcher 3's Best Side Quest Isn't About Geralt--It's About His Job

The Witcher 3's Best Side Quest Isn't About Geralt--It's About His Job

By this point, most of us agree that The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is one of the best games of the 2010s. Its gritty world, monstrous foes, and outstanding depth of content make it stand out in the crowded RPG space even years after its original launch, making its release on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S all the more notable. However, I think most fans can agree that it's the game's many memorable side quests that truly elevate it to the pantheon of great RPGs. And while there are quite a few that could be called the best, my personal favorite is "A Towerful Of Mice," an early-game option that has all of the game's best qualities. In general, the side quests of The Witcher 3 can be grouped into a few different categories. There are the witcher contracts, where Geralt has to hunt down a monster for pay. Then there are the quest chains, which usually involve Geralt romancing one of his potential love interests, like Yennefer. Then there are the weird one-offs, which have no impact on the game's overall story but often bring an unexpected twist or a strange character into things. A Towerful of Mice manages to mix all three of these categories together for great effect.Continue Reading at GameSpot

Destiny 2 Dawning Recipes (2022): Gifts, Rewards, And Changes

Destiny 2 is bringing The Dawning festivities back once more, allowing you to bake all sorts of cookies for both old and new faces. The event runs until the weekly reset on Tuesday, January 3, and there are a few tweaks to keep in mind compared to previous editions -- including the addition of Event Cards introduced this year, as well as new recipes like Lucent Crunch and Candy Dead Ghosts. As per usual, you can kickstart the event in the Tower by talking to Eva Levante in the center of the hub. She's going to give you access to Eva's Holiday Oven, and task you with baking a cookie for Zavala. Once that's a wrap, you'll be able to repeat the action with both him and a couple dozen characters across the system. Recipes don't need to be all discovered this time around, but it's once again recommended that you focus on getting the Masterworked Holiday Oven as soon as possible. For this, go ahead and craft Lucent Crunch, for which we have the recipe below.Continue Reading at GameSpot

Streamer Plays Two Copies Of Elden Ring At Once, One With Dance Pad

Streamer and cosplayer MissMikkaa is known for her Elden Ring challenge runs, including beating Malenia with a dance pad, but her latest challenge takes things to a whole new level. Recently, she's been playing two copies of Elden Ring at once, one with a dance pad, and one with a PS5 controller. Twitch streamer @MissMikkaa has taken Elden Ring to a whole new level, as she is now playing one game on PS5 and another on her dance pad... at the same time Gamers really are something pic.twitter.com/GTIFBBQnUh — Jake Lucky (@JakeSucky) December 11, 2022 Needless to say, progress has been difficult, but MissMikkaa has managed to beat a few of the game's early dungeons with the simultaneous setup, including the Stonedigger Troll boss. However, Margit appears to be an early roadblock for the run, as the lack of barriers on the edge of the stage makes rolling off of it a major hazard, perhaps even moreso than Margit himself. Based on her early attempts, it's definitely possible--but it might take a while to tackle. MissMikkaa has played other games using a dance pad, including the recent God Of War: Ragnarok. She also tried a bit of Elden Ring PvP using the control method, which went slightly better than you might expect. In late October, streamer GinoMachino managed to beat all of Elden Ring's 165 bosses without getting hit a single time. Streamer Bushy has made a name for himself by inventing unconventional challenges to keep himself playing it, including beating the game while being hit by every attack, and another where he suffered from Scarlet Rot for the entire run.Continue Reading at GameSpot

Armored Core 6 Won't Be Open-World, Will Use A Classic Mission-Based Design

The first new entry in the series in over a decade, Armored Core VI: Fires of Rubicon is headed to PC, PlayStation, and Xbox sometime in 2023. While you can expect From Software's next title to have giant robot fights that you'll have to prepare your mech for, Armored Core VI won't be an open-world experience in the same vein as Elden Ring and will instead be sticking to the mission-based design that its predecessors used. Speaking to IGN, From Software president Hidetaka Miyazaki explained that the decision to use a mission-based structure came down to the studio wanting to emphasize the high level of customization that players will have available to them before they start exploring the devastated world of Rubicon, instead of making a sci-fi Souls-like. "We felt that the mission-based structure was a benefit for this because it allows you to choose and customize before each sortie," Miyazaki said. "At the very least, the tempo--the pace at which the player is able to move across the world and traverse the map--this is a very big aspect in how you approach this design. I think one of the big appeal points of the previous Armored Core games is having this freedom to choose how you're going to move across the map and how your choices are going to affect your mobility and your ability once you're actually in the level. This is the format we wanted to choose this time, and this is where we wanted to put our focus."Continue Reading at GameSpot

Armored Core 6 Will Include From Software's Signature Giant Boss Battles

From Software isn't planning to make a sci-fi Soulsborne with Armored Core VI: Fires of Rubicon, but you can expect the studio to include its signature boss fights in the game when it arrives in 2023. According to director Masaru Yamamura--who served as project lead on Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice--boss battles will be challenging and will require players to tinker with their mechs before they challenge a massive armored core on the battlefield. "Boss battles are the highlight of the game in this title," Yamamura said to IGN. "The essence of the battles, in which the player reads the enemy's moves and then plays games with them, is of course provided, as is typical of From Software. In this title, both the enemy and your own machine are aggressive and violent in their attacks." Yamamura added that these "dynamic and intense" boss battles will be complemented by the customization aspects of Armored Core VI, as players will be able to assemble their mechs into boss-slaying machines. Despite the game containing those Dark Souls strands of DNA, other Souls-Like elements won't be present as studio president Hidetaka Miyazaki emphasized that a conscious effort was being made to focus on the gameplay having highly customizable mecha and speedy combat alongside fine-tuned robot shells for each boss battle.Continue Reading at GameSpot

James Gunn Says Superman Sequel Still A Top Priority To Warner Bros

Since becoming co-head of DC Studios, director James Gunn has had to set the record straight on a lot of misinformation concerning his plans for DC film projects, for both television and movies. There were rumors flying around about canceled projects, both confirmed and unconfirmed that were even in the works, like a rumored Batman Beyond movie featuring Michael Keaton. Taking to Twitter, Gunn addressed maybe one of the biggest absences of the past decade from DC and Warner Bros' catalog: the Man of Steel sequel. It'll be a full decade next year since Superman's last solo film. While the movie had mixed reviews, it banked over $660 million back in the summer of 2013, and Gunn said a new film featuring the world's most popular superhero is a top priority for DC Studios. Yes of course. Superman is a huge priority, if not the biggest priority. — James Gunn (@JamesGunn) December 10, 2022 "Superman is a huge priority, if not the biggest priority," Gunn replied to a fan asking if they'll see more Superman under his helming the DC pantheon.Continue Reading at GameSpot

Amazon Is Giving Away 10 Free Games To Prime Subscribers This Holiday

To celebrate the holidays, Prime Gaming is giving away even more free games later this month. Amazon Prime subscribers will be able to claim 10 free games starting December 27. The new batch of freebies is in addition the eight freebies that are already available as part of the normal monthly giveaways. All 10 of these new free games will be up for grabs until January 3. The headliner is undoubtedly Dishonored 2, the stellar action-adventure game from Arkane Studios that originally released back in 2016. Building off of the thrilling mix of action and stealth gameplay from the original, Dishonored 2 emphasizes player choice, allowing you to work your way through the large, intricately designed levels. Dishonored 2 adds even more variety thanks to the ability to play as two different protagonists with separate abilities. It earned an 8/10 in GameSpot's Dishonored 2 review. Though technically a direct sequel to the original, you could enjoy Dishonored without prior knowledge of the series. That said, to get the most out of the story (which is quite good), we recommend playing the original first. Thankfully, Dishonored is often available for very cheap. Continue Reading at GameSpot

Armored Core 6 Won't Play Like Elden Ring With Giant Mechs

After a decade spent developing the Dark Souls trilogy, Bloodborne, and Elden Ring, From Software is returning to its mechanized roots with Armored Core VI: Fires of Rubicon. Don't expect this new entry in the mech series to adopt a Soulsborne approach to gameplay though, as From Software president Hidetaka Miyazaki explained in a recent interview that Armored Core VI's gameplay will emphasize what makes the series so special. "No, we've not been making a conscious effort to try to direct it towards more Soulsborne-type gameplay. First of all, let me just make that clear," Miyazaki said to IGN. "The essential direction of [Armored Core VI] was to go back and take a good look at the core concept of Armored Core and what made that series special." According to Miyazaki, this includes the assembly aspect and customizing your titular armored core, with From Software looking to reexamine those ideas through a more modern lens. Being able to freely assemble and customize your mech down to each individual part will be "more liberating" than swapping out armor or equipment, Miyazaki explained, with the effects of your decisions being seen in the game and having an effect on how the world of Rubicon changes around you.Continue Reading at GameSpot

Returnal Is Going To Require A Lot Of RAM To Run Smoothly On PC

Returnal Is Going To Require A Lot Of RAM To Run Smoothly On PC

A PC port of Returnal was confirmed at The Game Awards last week, and like most PlayStation 4 and 5 games appearing on that alternative platform, you'll need some modern hardware to get the best possible performance. Curiously, Returnal's RAM requirements are much higher than previous PlayStation ports, as you'll need 32GB of RAM to keep the roguelite action flowing smoothly. That's according to the Steam listing for the game (as spotted by WccfTech), which requires a minimum of 16GB of RAM just to get started. What makes this number stand out is that other graphically demanding games such as Cyberpunk 2077 and Dying Light 2 have run just fine with between 8-16GB of RAM, and even several of Sony's previous ports haven't required that much RAM unless you were looking for a 4K experience with every PC setting set to the highest possible level. Returnal is a PS5 console-exclusive and wasn't available on PS4 like several other first-party games from PlayStation, which could explain its demanding requirements. For example, Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales recommends 16GB of RAM if you're planning to play at a resolution of 1440p at 60 FPS with ultra ray-tracing settings enabled, and 32GB of RAM if you want to bump the experience up to 4K. Beyond that, the rest of Returnal's requirements are pretty standard according to its Steam page listing. An Nvidia RTX 2070 or AMD RX 6700 XT graphics card will be able to render all the alien terror in Returnal just fine, and you'll need to have 60GB of storage space available.Continue Reading at GameSpot

Forspoken's Awkward Start Gives Way To Fun, Super-Fast Combat And Traversal

Forspoken's Awkward Start Gives Way To Fun, Super-Fast Combat And Traversal

Forspoken does not make a great first impression. While at a preview event ahead of the game's release next month, I was able to play the upcoming action-RPG and the first few minutes filled me with trepidation. The dialogue was too cute by half, and the combat felt cumbersome. However, those early growing pains slowly subsided as I continued on until eventually, time slipped away without my notice. Despite a rocky start, Forspoken found its stride and showed real promise. Those awkward early moments have already been a dominant topic of conversation after a trailer in August inspired a flurry of conversation across social media about Frey's running "well, that just happened" style of narration. That trailer was largely from the earliest part of the game I played, Chapter 2, and yes, that element is absolutely present. If anything, there's more of it. Frey talks to herself and her sentient vambrace, nicknamed Cuff, constantly, narrating her way through events and repeatedly pointing out how unbelievable it all is. Hailing from New York, she often drops casual references and slang from her world only to be met with a confused "huh?" from those around her, forcing her to explain herself or shrug it off with a hasty "never-mind." It happens so much, in fact, that it gets a little grating--come on, Frey, shouldn't you have figured out to just stop using idioms by now? I was similarly put off by the very earliest taste of combat. Frey starts off with just a handful of magical abilities, a family of purple magic representing the element of earth. In practice, these are ranged spells with some minor variations: a standard shot that can be charged for a more powerful burst, a weaker rapid-fire spell, and a rudimentary shield that can burst out and deal damage at close range. It takes place in third-person, so these are basically magic-guns with the over-the-shoulder perspective you'd expect from a third-person shooter. The earliest fights, especially before Frey starts to get her magic-enhanced movement abilities, felt like trying to dance with bricks tied to my calves.Continue Reading at GameSpot

Diablo 4 Development Mired In Crunch And Poor Leadership According To New Report

Diablo 4 Development Mired In Crunch And Poor Leadership According To New Report

Ahead of the game's probable launch in June, the Diablo 4 team has been crunching to ensure the game's timely release, according to a new report. The Washington Post reported that the Diablo 4 team is mired in long hours, and the company is offering insufficient perks in exchange. While the company has not explicitly required working overtime, Blizzard has offered a variety of incentives to keep employees at their desks. These range from $25 Door Dash credit for employees who work over 10 hours a day to gaining company stock shares after the game ships. These incentives have not been enough to keep all employees at the company, however. The Diablo 4 team has reportedly been consistently losing developers. One 20-person team lost half of its members over a year. Former employees interviewed by the Post alleged that when they asked for raises, some managers suggested they quit the company to look for a higher wage elsewhere, and only return to Blizzard when they have more experience. Many of the employees who do leave have multiple years of experience, while their replacements are inexperienced, entry-level hires. As a result of these issues, many quoted employees seem to doubt that the game will release in a completed state come June.Continue Reading at GameSpot

Razer Wolverine V2 Pro Review - Pricey And Niche

Razer Wolverine V2 Pro Review - Pricey And Niche

Over the past few years, Razer's Wolverine line of controllers has included multiple impressive options for competitive gamers on Xbox and PC. Now, PlayStation users can experience Razer's unique PC-style approach to controller design with the Razer Wolverine V2 Pro. Officially licensed by PlayStation, the Wolverine V2 Pro is a high-end controller with an eye-popping $250 price. After spending some time with the Wolverine V2 Pro, I can't deny that it's easily the most premium-feeling controller available at this time for PS5 owners. That said, its form factor limits the controller's reach, even if you can get past its half-a-PS5 asking price. Razer Wolverine V2 Pro $250 See at GameStop The Wolverine V2 Pro isn't the only pro-style controller for PS5 in the pipeline, either. Sony is releasing its own first-party controller, the DualSense Edge, on January 26 for $200. Meanwhile, PDP's Victrix brand just released a modular controller called the Victrix Pro BFG for $180. Though it remains to be seen how the Wolverine V2 Pro stacks up against the DualSense Edge, I also took a look at PDP's officially licensed controller, so make sure to check out our Victrix Pro BFG review, too. Is that a mouse in your hands? If you're unfamiliar with Razer's Wolverine line, the series is novel in its approach to button design. Mimicking the sound and feedback of a Razer gaming mouse, the face buttons, D-pad, and shoulder buttons use "mecha-tactile" switches to decrease response time, allowing you to trigger inputs faster. In addition to helping give you the edge in competitive multiplayer games, the switches simply feel better than ordinary controller inputs. To me, they are vastly superior, in fact, though there are people who don't like the sound or feel.Continue Reading at GameSpot

The Dark Tower Adaption Back At Amazon With Mike Flanagan And Trevor Macy At The Helm

The Dark Tower Adaption Back At Amazon With Mike Flanagan And Trevor Macy At The Helm

It's been an interesting week for Mike Flanagan and his partner Trevor Macy. After the duo announced their Netflix departure, the streaming service announced it was canceling their new series, The Midnight Club, an adaption of the Christopher Pike YA horror book series. However, talking to Deadline about the departure, the duo revealed that they are in the midst of developing a Dark Tower series for Amazon and its Prime Video service, based on the Stephen King fantasy book series. Now, if that project sounds familiar, it's because of a pilot helmed by The Walking Dead's Glen Mazzara, was shot but right before the pandemic hit, it was announced that production was not moving ahead and the pilot remains unaired, offering a huge what could have been scenario. It sounds like Flanagan and Macy had the right pitch idea and vision for the project. “I'm floored by what they did with The Lord of the Rings on a scale that we’ve never gotten close to," Flanagan said. "It represents, I think, a very innovative approach to an iconic IP with the full weight of studio support behind it, their confidence they put in a show, the resources they poured in the show. I think we both find that very exciting because it's long been on our list of goals to try to stretch into some of that event genre space. And that’s something that we're optimistic we may be able to accomplish there."Continue Reading at GameSpot

Bethesda QA Workers Are Trying To Unionize

Bethesda QA Workers Are Trying To Unionize

A group of more than 300 QA workers at ZeniMax has taken steps towards forming a union with the Communication Workers of America. Per Axios, these QA workers, who work with developers like Bethesda Game Studios, id Software, and several others, represent the largest contingent that have attempted to unionize in the game industry so far. The announcement of the move comes shortly after QA workers at Blizzard Albany won their vote with the NLRB over the objections of owner Activision Blizzard. It would appear to mark a potential sea-change in the gaming industry, where QA workers generally work long hours (especially during crunch) for relatively low pay. Microsoft previously stated that it will remain neutral regarding ongoing attempts at unionization at Activision, a company that it is currently in the process of buying. It's unclear if Microsoft will take such a hands-off approach at Zenimax, a company it already owns. For now, according to the New York Times, Microsoft isn't weighing in on the effort.Continue Reading at GameSpot

HBO Max Returns To Amazon Prime Video Channels After Contract Dispute

Amazon Prime Video subscribers can once again get HBO Max through Prime Video in the US. Amazon and Warner Bros. Discovery struck a new deal that runs through at least the end of 2024 to make this happen. Additionally, anyone who subscribers to HBO Max through Amazon will get an automatic upgrade to the combined HBO Max/Discovery+ service in 2023, which could be named just "Max." HBO Max was originally available for Prime Video members to subscribe to from within Prime, but it was removed in September 2021 when the two companies could not agree to terms. Variety reports that about 5 million people signed up to HBO Max through Prime, so when this was removed, HBO Max's subscriber base took a hit. Things are back to normal now, however, as HBO Max is once again available to subscribe to from within the Prime Video catalog in the US. Warner Bros. Discovery boss Bruce Campbell said the company's ambition is to make HBO Max available "to as broad an audience as possible," and getting it back on Prime Video helps with that.Continue Reading at GameSpot

Overwatch 2 Patch Finally Nerfs Genji, Brings Back Mei, And Enables Aim Assist For Console Cross-Play

Overwatch 2 Patch Finally Nerfs Genji, Brings Back Mei, And Enables Aim Assist For Console Cross-Play

Overwatch 2's first major balance patch has arrived, and it has heroes like D.Va, Genji, and Zarya in its sights. Improvements to matchmaking and the enabling of aim assist for those playing on consoles while in a group with PC players have also arrived as part of the November 17 update. As previously announced, this latest update (which arrived slightly later than originally planned following a two-day delay) targets some of the most frustrating heroes to go up against in Overwatch 2's current meta. Tanks Zarya and D.Va have both been hit with nerfs, with Blizzard tuning down D.Va's damage and the duration and cooldown of Zarya's barriers. Genji has proved to be a potent assassin in Overwatch 2 thanks to the game's shift to 5v5, so Blizzard has reduced the damage of his shuriken and reduced their maximum ammo. Blizzard writes in the patch notes that the changes should help to bring him "more in line with the other flanking heroes like Tracer and Reaper."Continue Reading at GameSpot

Pokemon Scarlet And Violet - Recommended Gym Badge And Titan Ability Order

Pokemon Scarlet And Violet - Recommended Gym Badge And Titan Ability Order

Pokemon Scarlet and Violet are here, representing a massive change to the traditional Pokemon formula. While these open-world games bear some resemblance to Pokemon Legends: Arceus, it all takes place in a single contiguous world and lets you go just about anywhere you'd like after you've completed the tutorial. But before you make a beeline for the toughest gyms, here's our recommendations for which order to take on the various challenges. Which gym should I do first? Scarlet and Violet actually have 18 badges in all--eight gym badges, five Team Star badges, and five Titan badges. Those are your rewards for the three distinct mission types in the game: Victory Road, Starfall Street, and Path of Legends. By the time the tutorial is done, you'll have every mission for each of those three mission types marked on your map and you can wander freely. However, the game doesn't tell you what level your opponents will be, so it's easy to wander into a gym that's too tough for you. Similarly, later Team Star bases and Titans will be set at much higher levels. As a rule of thumb, the further north you go, the harder the missions will be. Since you need gym badges to get higher-level Pokemon to listen to you, you'll probably need to do those roughly in order of the gyms themselves, so that you can have powerful monsters to match. Gyms in Scarlet and Violet often revolve around some non-battle activity, so you may not know how tough your Gym Leader opponent will be until you're face-to-face with them in battle. See below for our recommended levels to take on certain gyms.Continue Reading at GameSpot

Embracer Group Reveals Mysterious And "Transformative" Six-Year Deal

The gaming conglomerate Embracer Group recently released its interim Q2 report, and it revealed a "transformative" six-year deal with multiple partners. However, it's not clear who these partners are, and what this deal will actually involve. According to the report, the Embracer Group expects "the whole or parts" of this six-year transaction to close during the financial year. The partnership apparently covers a range of "large-budget upcoming games," and Embracer expects it to "improve predictability, lower business risk, and provide a positive impact on our cash flow and profits." This apparent blockbuster deal is a ray of good news in a report that featured a few negative revelations. For example, Saints Row developer Volition will merge with Gearbox, after the game failed to recapture the critical acclaim of previous games in the series. (However, Embracer insists that the game sold in line with expectations.)Continue Reading at GameSpot

Fans Prefer Traditional Games But Games-As-A-Service Dominates, Survey Reveals

In the past decade, the "traditional" game release model has seemingly been overtaken in interest, popularity, and commercial opportunities presented by the games-as-a-service model. A new study from GameSpot parent company Fandom shares some additional datapoints around this, helping to understand and explain what fans generally do and do not like about the games-as-a-service model compared to the traditional release setup. The Fandom survey found that fans generally prefer the more traditional release model over games-as-a-service because it requires less effort and obligation on their behalf. 61% said they preferred the traditional release model compared to 39% for games-as-a-service. The biggest reason why survey respondents said they don't prefer games-as-a-service is because they don't want to sign up for a subscription to play a game. Fans also reported that it's too much work to keep up with live-service titles. What fans do like about the live-service model includes how there is always something new and interesting to play in a game, along with being able to play for free. Indeed, games like Fortnite and Call of Duty: Warzone, both of which are free, offer up new content and events on a regular basis to keep drawing players back in.Continue Reading at GameSpot

The World Is Getting Worse And Here's How It Could Affect One Major Game Company

Embracer Group, the Swedish gaming giant, has commented on the state of the world and how economic, geopolitical, and social issues could negatively affect the company's business outlook. The company says it will conduct a business review, with one possible outcome being to spin off some of its many subsidiaries and take advantage of a Swedish tax law provision in the process. In a section of its latest earnings briefing titled "Turbulent Times Create New Opportunities," CEO Lars Wingefors said he remains confident in the company's "decentralized operating model" with teams and studios spread around the world. However, he spoke candidly about how things could go south. "The world has changed for the worse in many areas, becoming darker in recent months. We need to adapt to the challenges of geopolitical and social issues around the world and the new macroeconomic reality," he said, noting that the increased cost of capital will impact Embracer's business.Continue Reading at GameSpot

New Alien Movie Looks To Add Devs Star To Cast - Report

Deadline is reporting that Cailee Spaeny is in talks to star in 20th Century's new Alien movie, with Fede Alvarez (Don't Breathe) directing and Ridley Scott's Scott Free producing. Their sources aren't saying much more about the production, and 20th Century had no comment.
