First Dying Light 2 AMA Reveals Handmade Guns And More

First Dying Light 2 AMA Reveals Handmade Guns And More

The first Dying Light 2 AMA from developer Techland has led to answers to some big questions about the upcoming zombie-parkour hybrid. The AMA, led by Dying Light 2 lead game designer Tymon Smektała, touched on multiple subjects including handmade weapons, the game's new volatiles, and the importance of different decisions players would make. Unlike the first entry in the franchise, Dying Light 2 will largely exclude firearms from player's arsenals. Late in Dying Light 1, players could find guns like pistols and rifles across the game's city. However, the sequel will change that radically. "So… There are no firearms in the world of Dying Light 2," Smektała said. "Why? Because it's a world war, the civilization is destroyed. It's gone, so actually no one is able to create like… professional firearms." Even though players won't have access to M16s or Colt 45s, guns will still be present in the game. Players will be able to make their own eventually, with Smektała offering the example of a handmade shotgun. This weapon would be crafted with scavenged parts and go into the player's left hand, allowing them to use a melee weapon at the same time. However, since it's a handmade weapon, these shotguns would break very easily. Players will have other ranged weapon options, like "bows and something extra which fit [sic] more the modern type ages idea, the modern type ages concept."Continue Reading at GameSpot

Call Of Duty: Warzone Verdansk '84 Glitch Lets You Go Under The Map, And It's A Problem

Call Of Duty: Warzone Verdansk '84 Glitch Lets You Go Under The Map, And It's A Problem

A newly discovered glitch in Call of Duty: Warzone allows players to access an area under the map where they can take out players who can't see them. People on Reddit have discovered that it's not very difficult to get under the map at the airport, in particular. The potential for negatively impacting the game with this glitch is immediately obvious, and players who have been killed by those who use the glitch are understandably voicing their frustrations. You can see an example of the glitch in the video below, as spotted by PC Gamer. It's also been reported that it's possible to get under the new map, Verdansk '84, at locations like the train station, downtown, and TV station. Here is an example of what it looks like to be on the receiving end of the glitch. As you can see in the video, the unsuspecting player is taken out at the Stadium by someone who has gotten under the map. The player who was killed never saw it coming. The person who uploaded the video titled it "What's the point of even playing right now?"Continue Reading at GameSpot

Steven Spielberg's West Side Story Gets Visually Stunning First Trailer

Steven Spielberg's West Side Story Gets Visually Stunning First Trailer

The first trailer for Steven Spielberg's West Side Story has been released. The new version of the classic musical hits theaters on December 10. The trailer is very much a first teaser--it contains no dialogue or shots of the actors singing. But it is visually stunning, with striking shots of New York in the 1950s and of the gang members assembling in the streets, ready to fight (and sing) it out. Lead actors Rachel Zegler and Ansel Elgort play conflicted lovers Maria and Tony, and it's likely to be one of the big movies of the Holiday season when it arrives. Check the trailer out below: West Side Story's supporting cast is drawn from the world of theater, and it also includes Ariana DeBose (Hamilton, The Prom), David Alvarez (Billy Elliot the Musical), and Mike Faist (Dear Evan Hansen). Rita Moreno, who won an Oscar for playing Maria in the 1961 movie version, also has a supporting role and worked as executive producer.Continue Reading at GameSpot

Resident Evil Village Includes Funny Resident Evil 4 Reference

Resident Evil Village Includes Funny Resident Evil 4 Reference

Resident Evil Village is in first-person, but the game still bears a strong resemblance to the classic Resident Evil 4 in terms of its tone and setting. Capcom is certainly aware of this, and it even included a silly reference to the earlier game that you could see when playing the recent demo. The Duke's Emporium is the cart you'll visit in the game in order to purchase weapons and other items. The vendor doesn't look anything like the one in Resident Evil 4, but he does use one of his lines as a joke. "What're ya buying?" he asks before laughing about how an "old friend" used to say this. It could just be a simple Easter egg for fans of the series, or it could be a hint at a connection between the games. Both are in Europe, but Resident Evil 4 is in Spain, meaning one of these vendors would have to have done some traveling in order to know the other. Continue Reading at GameSpot

Respawn's New Project Is An Original IP, Hiring Dev Team Now

Respawn Entertainment has grown considerably since its early day working on the first Titanfall game, with multiple franchises and releases under its belt. Its next game, or at least one of its next games, will be an original IP--its first since Titanfall launched back in 2014. Though details on the project are scarce and it looks to be very early in development, several Respawn developers confirmed the game will be a new IP. The official job listing also uses this wording and mentions a "compact incubation team," and the studio means it. Programmer Steven Kah Hien Wong added that only five people are on the project at the moment. Want to get in early and help build a new IP from scratch? We're a team of *5* right now looking for our 6th (a coder)! https://t.co/BpfxUBZ71L — Steven Kah Hien Wong (@gluttyriceball) April 22, 2021 Respawn certainly has a lot on its plate with the continued development of Apex Legends as well as an expected Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order sequel, and it also branched into VR with Medal of Honor: Above and Beyond last year. PlayStation Store's Old Web Version Revived With Browser Plugin

PlayStation Store's Old Web Version Revived With Browser Plugin

Last month, it appeared that Sony had finally killed off the web version for its older PlayStation Store, which included games for legacy systems like the PS Vita and PS3. However, a browser plugin now allows you to access the store once again. The plugin, available through Firefox, provides renewed access to the web version of the "Valkyrie" PlayStation Store, which is what was used until around the time the PS5 released. In addition to being arguably easier to navigate, it's the only way you can buy and download Vita or PS3 games without using the systems' own software. Try to search for a Vita exclusive on the current PlayStation Store and you'll get a whole lot of nothing. The older version also provides a very easy-to-use download list for quickly choosing what to install. Oh. My. God. So, and this makes sense, the old web Playstation store wasn't taken down as much as they just got rid of a few HTML files to prevent you from access the APIs. So someone made a Firefox plugin to restore it. AND IT WORKS.https://t.co/30enQtMBT4@DelistedGames pic.twitter.com/QzMemfqCMc — Chris Glass (@TheChrisGlass) April 23, 2021 Because Sony was planning to shutter the Vita and PS3 stores completely within the next few months, this plugin would seemingly serve little purpose. However, the company reversed that decision just days ago and now doesn't have a timeline for when they'll close. Though the PSP store will still be closing in July, it doesn't have the same huge digital-only game selection as the other systems.Continue Reading at GameSpot

Konami Marks Konami Code's 35th Anniversary With Lofi Gradius Tracks

Konami Marks Konami Code's 35th Anniversary With Lofi Gradius Tracks

To celebrate 35 years of the Konami Code, a cheat created by the late Japanese developer Kazuhisa Hashimoto, Konami has released some lofi remixes from Gradius, the side-scrolling shooter Hashimoto's cheat was designed for. For the remixes, Konami dropped a 33-minute long video of lofi tracks from the game's soundtrack. It shows a pilot chilling in space, playing some Gradius. And of course, it's got that signature title most lofi mixes have. The cheat--up, up, down, down, left, right, left, right, B, A, Start--was written by Hashimoto, who came up with it in 1986 to combat Gradius' difficulty. It functioned like a god mode, giving the player access to the game's full range of power-ups. Konami learned of the code after launch but choose not to patch it.Continue Reading at GameSpot

Evercade VS Retro Home Console Announced

After releasing a handheld console in 2020 that featured a collection of officially supported retro games on it, Blaze Entertainment has revealed its Evercade VS home console. Like the Evercade Handheld, the Evercade VS uses the companies' own proprietary cartridge technology to create a more authentic gaming experience. The Evercade VS can have two carts inserted simultaneously, which Blaze Entertainment says expands the playable game library by up to 40 games at any time. The console has support for up to four players at once with the use of Evercade Game Controllers or other USB Game controllers, features built-in WiFi, 512MB DRAM, and a 1.5Ghz CPU allowing for 1080p output. If you already own an Evercade Handheld, that can also be used as an extra controller. As for the actual games, the current library has 280 officially licensed classic titles such as Earthworm Jim, Brawl Brothers, and Earth Defense Force. Since the Evercade VS uses the same cartridge-based game system as the Evercade Handheld, that means that any games you own for that mobile system will be supported on the home console. This won't work for every game due to licensing issues, as the popular Namco Museum will only be playable on the Evercade Handheld.Continue Reading at GameSpot

Gearbox Joins Companies Considering Shift From Texas Following Anti-Trans Legislation

Following the passage of Texas Senate Bill 29, which requires public school students to take part in athletic competitions based on their assigned gender at birth, a coalition of Texas businesses have joined forces to oppose the open discrimination of transgender youth. Among these businesses are Amazon, Dell, HP, IBM, Microsoft, PayPal, and Gearbox Software, the studio behind the Borderlands series. According to David Najjab, director of institutional partnerships at Gearbox Software, the company is considering shifting production away from Texas if the state continues to pursue anti-trans legislation. The news was first reported by NBCDFW, a local television station in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. In its report, the station provided a copy of the business group's open letter to state legislators, which states the current legislation "would send a message that is at odds with the Texas we know, and with our own efforts to attract and retain the best talent and to compete for business." They then added they will "continue to oppose any unnecessary, divisive measures that would damage Texas' reputation and make our customers, our visitors, and our employees and their families feel unwelcome or unsafe." In a testimony before the Texas House of Representatives, Najjab stated Texas' push for laws targeting the transgender community would force Gearbox to consider moving its headquarters away from Frisco, the city the studio was founded in back in 1999.Continue Reading at GameSpot

Xbox's FPS Boost Now Available For Battlefield, Star Wars Battlefront, And Titanfall Series

Xbox's FPS Boost feature, which was unveiled back in February 2021 and only available for a handful of backward compatible Xbox One titles, has expanded to series like Battlefield, Star Wars Battlefront, and Titanfall. In a post by Larry "Major Nelson" Hryb, FPS Boost can now be toggled in games such as Battlefield V, Mirror's Edge Catalyst, Star Wars Battlefront 2, and Titanfall 2. These are just the highlights from the growing list of Xbox One games that can take advantage of the feature, which uses the Xbox Series X|S's more advanced hardware to nearly doubles a game's frame rate to smoothen the experience. FPS Boost for some games, like Fallout 4 and Star Wars Battlefront 2, is turned off by default. Hryb said the Xbox team "had to reduce a game's resolution to ensure it both runs smoothly and plays great." However, the feature can be easily toggled on in the Settings menu under Compatibility Options. Players can also check to see if the game is running in FPS Boost mode by simply tapping the Xbox button on the controller.Continue Reading at GameSpot

Oculus Gives An In-Depth Look At The Resident Evil 4 VR Remake

Oculus held its first livestreamed game showcase this week, and it spent a good amount of the 25-minute runtime focused on Resident Evil 4 in VR--a Quest 2 exclusive. New footage gives us a good look at how combat will feel in the game, as well as a rundown on which systems have been changed and which have been left the same. Most notably, the VR port adapts Resident Evil 4's third-person viewpoint to a first-person experience, and a lot of tweaks have had to be made to accommodate for that. Using weapons will be a more physical experience with the Quest 2's motion controls, allowing for finer melee weapon control, dual wielding, and the ability to manually reload firearms--which also adds the threat of fumbling a reload in a tense situation. While the game offers VR-style teleportation as a movement option, as well as Roomscale tracking, the developers expect most people will navigate with the analogue stick as they would in a non-VR game. The developers also have made sure the VR version of the game is comfortable to play while seated, given the game is longer than most designed specifically for VR. Enemies have been balanced to adjust for the increased difficulties of navigating in VR, but Oculus expects the game overall to feel scarier and more tense in VR.Continue Reading at GameSpot

Days Gone 2 Petition Clears 50,000 Signatures As Fans Lobby For Sequel

A Change.org petition that calls for Sony to greenlight Days Gone 2 has amassed over 50,000 signatures. The petition was launched in early April, and it has 56,000 signatures as of this writing. As noted by VGC, this news follows a report from Bloomberg that states that developer Sony Bend prepared a pitch for a Days Gone 2 that was rejected by Sony, apparently due to its "mixed" critical reception. That report also claimed that a remake of The Last of Us. (Days Gone has a Metascore of 71 on Metacritic; for comparison's sake, fellow first-party Sony title The Last Of Us Part 2 has a 93.) Since the publication of that report, and word that several key creative staff behind the open-world zombie game have left Sony Bend, fans and developers alike have expressed their frustration with the lack of a Days Gone 2. Lemnis Gate Confirms Next-Gen Versions, Release Window

Lemnis Gate and its unique, turn-based take on the FPS genre will launch later this year, after first being announced at last year's Gamescom. Ratloop Games Canada, the indie studio behind Lemnis Gate, has now confirmed that the game will also be released for the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S, as well as locking in a fast-approaching release window of summer 2021. Lemnis Gate is a new take on the competitive FPS, with a unique approach that aims to mix the best of frenetic shooters and real-time strategy. The game takes place in a 25-second time loop, with each player taking turns to deploy operatives into the loop, trying to complete objectives and retroactively sabotage the other player's previously deployed characters. The formula allows for some complex strategies, as GameSpot's Phil Hornshaw learned in a recent hands-on session. The game will launch with two game modes, 1v1 and 2v2, with both modes available in either online or local multiplayer. Nintendo Is Suing Bowser, Or At Least Someone Named Bowser

Nintendo is a big fan of Bowser. In fact, Nintendo of America's president is even Doug Bowser, as of a few years ago. However, not all Bowsers are in the company's good graces, as Nintendo has filed a lawsuit alleging that a man named Gary Bowser is in charge of a piracy operation targeting the Switch. In a lawsuit filed in Seattle (via Polygon), Nintendo alleges that Gary Bowser is one of the leaders of a piracy group called Team Xecuter, which makes and sells an operating system called SX OS that is used to circumvent Nintendo Switch security systems. Once installed, Nintendo says this OS allows for pirated games to be played on Nintendo Switch, which would be otherwise impossible. "If a user already owns a lawful, properly purchased Nintendo Switch game, the user can use the SX OS and accompanying features to turn that game into an unlawful copy, which allows the user to share additional unauthorized copies with more users also using the SX OS on the Nintendo Switch," the lawsuit says.Continue Reading at GameSpot

Halo Infinite Features Return Of Legendary Multiplayer Announcer, Adaptive Battle Music

Halo Infinite is making some major changes to the series' art direction, focusing on the simpler and iconic design of the original trilogy, but there is also a lot of work going into the game's sound. The tricky balancing act of blending the old with the new was a challenge for 343 Industries, and the development team has offered some details on what you can expect. In a new Ask343 development video, the audio design team spoke about the iconic elements it's keeping from past games, including the classic charging sound of the Plasma Pistol. It will also feature the ramping-up music that makes every battle feel so climactic, building in an enormous crescendo as the action gets more intense. Tools, including ones 343 created in-house, are used to keep track of what both you and the enemies are doing at all times in order to have the music play differently. This also includes examining player-intention. For example, if you are staying far away from some Elites as you snipe them, there won't be the same music as if you went in with guns blazing.Continue Reading at GameSpot

This includes director and writer John Garvin, who appeared to put the blame for games not getting sequels--at least in part--on players not willing to pay full price at launch. Speaking to fellow former Sony developer David Jaffe, Garvin said (via VGC) that "If you love a game, buy it at full ****ing price," and said he has heard players talk about getting games on sale or through PlayStation Plus, instead. Amazon Reportedly Cancels Lord Of The Rings MMO

Amazon has reportedly canceled its long-awaited Lord of the Rings MMO game, making it just the latest in a growing list of unreleased projects from the tech giant. However, it appears this game's cancellation came from a contract dispute rather than any issue with creating something that met quality standards. Bloomberg reported on April 17 that issues arose after co-developer Leyou Technologies was purchased by Tencent back in December. Amazon and Tencent could not then come to an agreement to continue developing the game, which was also being co-developed by an internal Amazon team, and this forced it to be canceled. According to a statement Amazon gave to Bloomberg, the internal team will move to other projects. Leyou is the same parent company behind Warframe developer Digital Extremes and Gears Tactics studio Splash Damage. Here's How Sony Made The PS5's Packaging Fully Recyclable

When you get your PS5--if you're lucky enough to find one--you'll notice right away that its packaging is different from other consoles. This was a conscious decision by Sony to make the entire box recyclable, and it managed to do so without sacrificing protection. In a post on the Sony Interactive Entertainment website, director of environment and technical compliance Kieren Mayers said that Sony has committed to eliminating plastic use in small product packaging by 2025 in an effort to cut down on ocean pollution. In the case of the PS5, Sony was able to do this by making fairly minor adjustments to the box design. In place of plastic trays are card inserts and "paper pulp cushion trays," and the plastic cable ties we've seen for so long have been replaced by paper ones. If you opened up any PS5 accessories' boxes, that change was made for those, too. Instead of gluing hanger tabs for the outer portion of the packaging, folding techniques were used, and unnecessary plastic bags holding things like cables and manuals were removed. One feature of smaller boxes--plastic display windows--had to be eliminated outright, but we all know what a PS5 controller looks like. Continue Reading at GameSpot

Players can also matchmake into teams that contain the same Heroes, which means that some missions could feature an Iron Legion of armored Avengers firing repulsor blasts, a team of Captain Americas all slinging their shields at the same target, or if you'd prefer ultimate destruction, a gang of Hulks smashing everything in their path. The Tachyon Anomaly event won't be a permanent addition to Marvel's Avengers, as it'll only run until May 3. During these two weeks in which the mode is active, there'll be a weekly mission chain that rewards Hivemind set gear and daily missions that reward priority set gear for high-level heroes. Instead, within 24 hours of that clip being uploaded, fans who commented were activated enough to reach a passionate consensus that a remake must happen. Winter is coming. — Game of Thrones (@GameOfThrones) April 14, 2021 As with YouTube comments sections, which are widely understood to be a free-for-all, replies on Twitter have ranged from relitigating how the season "ruined the series" to scattered fond memories to people posting weather maps for their area to confirm that, yes, snowstorms are in the forecast. Despite the series only finishing up in 2019, there's also a growing demand for a revival series.Continue Reading at GameSpot

Dragon Age 2 Writer Says "Snyder Cut" Version Would Add More Nuance, Varric Romance

Dragon Age 2 Writer Says "Snyder Cut" Version Would Add More Nuance, Varric Romance

In the wake of Zack Snyder's Justice League, Dragon Age 2 writer David Gaider has chimed in with what he would do with carte blanche to make an equally uncompromising version of his work. In short: The city would be much bigger, the choices would have more nuance, and you could take Varric to bed. In a Twitter thread, Gaider answered the hypothetical saying that Dragon Age 2 was "THE Project of Multiple Regrets." For starters, he says, he would either include significant changes to the city of Kirkwall as the game spans the course of years, or reduce the time between acts to months instead of years. He added that he doesn't care much about the oft-repeated criticism of repetitive missions, but just would like Kirkwall to feel more crowded and alive. More specific to your player character, he said he'd like to restore a cut plot where the hero Hawke almost became an abomination. Plus, he'd like to restore cut lines, the absence of which made NPC interactions seem inconsistent, as if they'd never met you or forgot you had romanced them.Continue Reading at GameSpot

Hood: Outlaws And Legends Trailer Is Full Of New Multiplayer Heist Action

Developer Sumo Digital has revealed a new trailer for Hood: Outlaws and Legends, its upcoming action-heist game. In a detailed look at what the game is about, the trailer reveals just how a round of medieval multiplayer will function, which revolves around a team of players breaking into a tightly guarded location and pilfering some valuable loot while avoiding AI-controlled enemies. The catch here is that a rival team of players will also be searching for the same treasure, leading to confrontations where one gang either escapes with the loot or a 4v4 showdown occurs. You can see more of the game in action below, which features Hitman's Jane Perry aka Agent 47'’s handler Diana Burnwood narrating the video. Teams have plenty of options available to them, considering the emphasis on stealth in Hood: Outlaws and Legends. Beyond a race to the vault, the other risky approach that a gang can take is to let the opposition do all the hard work and then prepare an ambush at an extraction point. Every player in a team also takes on a unique role, with each class having a specialized set of skills.Continue Reading at GameSpot

Guide To Refresh Rates And Response Times In Gaming Monitors 2021

Picking out the right monitor for your gaming PC might seem simple at first, but looks can be deceiving. It used to be a simple matter of getting the right resolution and the right cable. But now you have to worry about the panel type, the cable inputs, whether it has FreeSync or G-Sync, and more. Two of the most important monitor specs to make sense of if you're new to PC gaming are refresh rates and response time. We'll cover what each of those terms mean, what specs influence them, and how to get the right monitor for your rig. For an overview of all the tech that goes into a gaming monitor, check out our guide to monitor technologies. What is refresh rate? Fortnite 16.20 Patch Notes Include New Vehicles

Fortnite version 16.20 is just around the corner, and Epic has once again taken to Twitter to share the basic patch notes. As is often the case, players will want to dive in firsthand to see all that's new, as the patch notes tend to only cover the broad strokes these days, but the Fortnite 16.20 patch notes still include reference to some fun new additions players have been waiting for. Chief among them is probably the allusion to "new wheels," which is likely a reference to the remodeled Whiplash car you may have caught in the Fortnite Season 6 launch trailer. Already the fastest car in the game, the Whiplash looks primed to be tricked out with new tires and suspension that should solve the car's previous issues with offroad traction. The question remains, though, whether other new cars will be landing on the island as well. For now, we await the overnight update--or more likely the dataminers ahead of time. Version 16.20 will also introduce a new bow-focused Duos Cup, though its proper name and start date have not yet been revealed. It sounds like it's time to practice your accuracy with this season's themed weapon.Continue Reading at GameSpot

Dev Gets Playable Flappy Bird Working Via Mac Notifications

Flappy Bird exploded in popularity several years ago with its simple gameplay and background elements that had pretty clearly been inspired from the Super Mario series. It was pulled and made largely unavailable--unless you had an Amazon Fire TV unit--shortly after it became huge. However, one developer has managed to bring the game back via an unexpected platform: the MacOS notification box. With a cheeky tweet asking if others knew that such a thing was even possible, developer Neil Sardesai showed the full Flappy Bird game running via the Mac's notification window. It's actually based on a clone of Flappy Bird rather than the original version, but it's pretty much indistinguishable. Did you know you can put a whole game inside of a push notification pic.twitter.com/LlMx2AjvHH — Neil Sardesai (@neilsardesai) April 9, 2021 You can try this clone directly in your web browser by clicking the link we put above, so playing it in the notification box is pretty much pointless. It's not always about whether it is necessary for the ambitious, however, but merely whether it's possible. Continue Reading at GameSpot

Bad Bunny Makes Wrestlemania Debut

Bad Bunny Makes Wrestlemania Debut

Multi-platinum rapper and performing artist Bad Bunny made his Wrestlemania debut at Wrestlemania 37 in a tag team match with Damien Priest against The Miz and John Morrison. Bad Bunny, real name Benito Antonio Martínez Ocasio, had already made a splash in the company capturing its 24/7 Championship and even taking it to SNL. The match started with a grand entrance with dozens of Easter Bunnies before Miz and Morrison hit the ring. Priest came down to the ring with standard fair, but Bunny came out riding on top of a semi-truck. Bunny started the match off against Miz and managed to get some offense in against the former WWE Champion. He managed to hit a flying crossbody on his opponents on the outside. Eventually Bunny nailed a top rope crossbody with help from Priest lifting Miz on his shoulders, almost like the Legion of Doom preparing for the Doomsday Device to pin Miz for the win. Age Of Empires 4 Will Let You Command A War Elephant

Age of Empires might not be one of Microsoft's biggest series, but fans have been enjoying the history-filled real-time strategy and massive battles for a very long time. One of four campaigns available in the game, the Norman campaign begins at the Battle of Hastings in England and follows Duke William and descendants Robert, William II, and Henry I as they fight for control of the nation. Epic Games Is Losing An Absurd Amount Of Money On Exclusive Games

Epic Games seems to understand that, given Steam's massive user-base, the only way it can be a viable competitor is to have games that aren't available on Valve's service. Exclusivity deals with third-party companies cost money, and it looks like Epic Games is losing a huge amount of money to make those exclusives happen. As spotted by PC Gamer, despite paying approximately $444 million for "minimum guarantees" on third-party games for the Epic Games Store in 2020, sales of all third-party games for the year amounted to about $265 million. Apple said that Epic Games lost about $181 million on the Epic Games Store in 2019, putting the total losses thus far at more than $300 million, should these figures be correct. Big games like Metro Exodus and Control were released first on EGS before coming to Steam later. Apple used these figures in a statement as part of its lawsuit against Epic Games, pointing out that the service is unprofitable and is missing security features that Apple's App Store includes. It pointed out that most of Epic Games' Fortnite revenue is generated on platforms other than iOS, as well, which would seemingly mitigate the effect of the game not being available there anymore.Continue Reading at GameSpot

Plants Vs Zombies 2 Original Producer Explains What Went Wrong

Plants Vs Zombies 2 Original Producer Explains What Went Wrong

Plants vs Zombies 2 wasn't what a lot of fans expected out of a sequel to the classic strategy game, as it was rife with microtransactions that many players said felt like hitting a free-to-play wall. The original producer of the game, Matt Johnston, has opened up about what was going on behind the scenes as those decisions were being made. In an interview with MinnMax, Johnston said that the seed of microtransactions in Plants vs Zombies 2 was part of its original design, with the idea of plant food. This was intended to be a leg up for players who were struggling, as a way to overcome a particular obstacle. In the midst of development, though, his team was suddenly asked to make a slice of the game playable for upper management, for reasons he didn't know at the time. And while the team made the demo, it's at this point that he first expressed some reservations about following a F2P model. "We don't think that's possible without breaking the game," Johnston explained. "The game is this interwoven, meticulously hand-balanced set of interdependent components. Every plant has a zombie that it depends on for that balance. Making sure that that whole thing is woven together in that perfect lineage and that perfect experience was just a magic trick that you can't mess with."Continue Reading at GameSpot

The zombies outbreak in Call of Duty: Warzone is getting worse. A new teaser for the rumored nuke event has appeared online, alerting players that the containment levels have reached 66% and telling them not to worry as part of what is certainly propaganda and a big lie that is trying to cover up the truth of what is going down in Verdansk. The message posted by Armistice Central Command alerts players that the zombie outbreak, while it is getting worse, is nothing to worry about.Uh oh "Per recent models, everything is under control," the message says. Nick Offerman Cast In Hulu's Pam & Tommy Sex Tape Series

Nick Offerman Cast In Hulu's Pam & Tommy Sex Tape Series

Comic actor Nick Offerman, perhaps best known for playing Ron Swanson in NBC's Parks and Recreation, will be joining Lily James, Sebastian Stan, and Seth Rogen in an upcoming Hulu limited series titled Pam & Tommy, about the 1995 theft and release of Pam Anderson and Tommy Lee's infamous sex tape, according to Variety. The biographical drama will span eight episodes, and the project was scheduled to begin shooting this week. Offerman will be playing Milton Ingley, aka Uncle Miltie, "a burly, pipe-smoking porn impresario who revels in his larger-than-life stature." Offerman's character helps Rogen's character, Rand Gauthier, distribute his former employers' sex tape. So, in the midst of a morally questionable story, the pair should provide some nice, sleazy comic relief together and separately. Stan will play Lee, while James will play Anderson, although neither Lee nor Anderson are involved with the series. Pam & Tommy is written and co-executive produced by Robert Siegel, joining an expansive co-executive pricing team that also includes Rogen, Evan Goldberg, James Waver, Alex McAtee, James Franco, Dave Franco, Vince Jolivette, Ramona Banner, Megan Ellison, Sue Naegle, Ali Krug, DV DeVincentis, Chip Vucelich, Dylan Sellers, and Sarah Gubbins.Continue Reading at GameSpot

Host Writer Is Making A Live-Action Horror Game Called Ghosts

Jed Shepherd, who co-wrote the Zoom-themed horror movie Host for Shudder last year, is now branching out into games, with the announcement of the FMV-style game Ghosts. The game will reunite most of the cast of Host, with a paranormal antagonist called The Long Lady designed by Sirenhead creator Trevor Henderson and brought to life by Jim Henson's Creature Shop. The game follows a crew of ghost hunters (featuring Host stars Emma Louise Webb, Haley Bishop, Jemma Moore, Radina Drandova, and Caroline Ward) exploring "the most haunted location in London," with the player taking the role of the broadcast producer. With a number of different live feeds coming in, the player must decide what goes to air, making decisions that will hurt or help the show--and potentially the cast itself. The game will involve looking after the safety of the cast, while also making sure the show is entertaining. Excited to announce that I'm making a REAL-TIME, live-action HORROR video game w/ creature design by @slimyswampghost & made by Jim Henson's Creature Shop! Nier Replicant Remake Has Gone Gold, Will Bring Existential Dread Soon

Set to release in just a few weeks, Nier Replicant ver.1.22474487139..., which will henceforth be called Nier Replicant, has officially gone gold. This means the material that will be on the disc has been finalized and it is entering physical production. With the prevalence of launch-day updates and quickly-released patches these days, "gone gold" doesn't actually mean all that much, but it's still a milestone every developer looks forward to hitting. The game's official Twitter account shared the news today along with a poll asking if fans were excited. All four options were "yes." Given the franchise's rabid fanbase--I may have an Emil piggy bank and a homemade Pascal figure in my home--that poll likely isn't that inaccurate. Monster Hunter Rise Rampage Quests Tips And Explainer

Monster Hunter Rise Rampage Quests Tips And Explainer

In addition to standard hunting and capture quests, Monster Hunter Rise introduces a new type of mission called Rampages. These quests crop up periodically and blend horde and tower defense elements, tasking you with defending your fort against several waves of rampaging monsters. They can also be among the game's most frustrating objectives, and while you can generally avoid most of them, you'll occasionally need to complete a Rampage to jump up to the next Hunter Rank. If you're having trouble, here's an overview of Rampage quests and some tips to help you clear them. Rampage Quest Overview Unlike standard quests, which send you off to different locales, Rampages all occur within Kamura Village's stronghold. The overarching goal of these quests is to defend the fort's final gate by driving back the invading monsters. To help you defend the gate, you can place various installations around the stronghold. These fall into one of several categories. There are mountable installations such as ballistas and cannons; these can be manned by players and can fire different types of projectiles to repel monsters. There are also some "automatic" installations such as bamboo bombs; place these on the ground, and they'll detonate when a monster comes in contact with them, dealing severe damage.Continue Reading at GameSpot
