With Switch 2 Possibly On The Horizon, Nintendo Is Skipping Gamescom 2024

Nintendo has confirmed that it is skipping Gamescom 2024. This breaks with tradition, as Nintendo had consistently participated in the event in the past.

"Gamescom is a great event, and each year we evaluate whether Nintendo should participate or not," Nintendo UK told Eurogamer. "After careful consideration from all perspectives, we've made the decision not to be present at Gamescom 2024. Players will have opportunities to try out Nintendo Switch games at other events throughout the year."

It's unclear why Nintendo decided to pull out of the Gamescom 2024. The announcement to skip comes amid rumors that the Nintendo Switch successor will be released within the next year. In recent years, Nintendo has announced its latest hardware during its own dedicated events. Whether the decision to skip Gamescom this year will be a one-time thing or a reoccurring one is unknown. Dragon Age TV Series Is A "Terrible Idea," Says Game Series Creator

With Amazon Prime's Fallout show becoming the talk of the town, people are brainstorming about what other classic gaming franchises they'd love to see transition to a TV series. Dragon Age creator David Gaider has a couple of ideas, but they don't include his own RPG fantasy series.

In fact, Gaider stated on X (formerly known as Twitter) that a Dragon Age TV series is a "terrible idea." Instead, the writer behind the Dragon Age trilogy would like "to see a David Lynch-style (on acid) Disco Elysium" show adapation "or maybe Banishers." A Disco Elysium TV series was announced be in the works back in 2020. Meanwhile, for those unaware about the latter suggestion, the action-RPG comes from Life Is Strange developer Don't Nod. Better Call Saul's Bob Odenkirk Recalls Medic's Words After His Heart Attack

It's been almost three years since actor Bob Odenkirk had his heart attack on the set of Better Call Saul. The Emmy-winning actor made a full recovery, it scared his family and fans worldwide, but also someone else: the on-set medic.

The star collapsed on the set of Better Call Saul in New Mexico on July 28, 2021, and was rushed to the hospital. Days later, he described the incident as a "small heart attack." Odenkirk recalled what happened in a recent interview with the Multiple Talking Women podcast, saying the medic froze after he slumped down and his heart was beginning to fail.

Star Wars Is Returning To Fortnite At The Most Obvious Time

Star Wars content is coming back to Fortnite in May just in time for the Star Wars holiday of May the 4th. A teaser video confirms that the latest Star Wars x Fortnite crossover event begins May 3, but we don't know just yet what content might be included in this newest wave.

Fallout 76 Hits A New Concurrent Player Record On Steam

War never changes, but concurrent player counts do for video games. For Fallout 76, the numbers are going up, as the action-RPG set a new all-time record over the weekend on Steam.

On X (formerly known as Twitter), user CHAD: A Fallout 76 Podcast spotted that Fallout 76 had reached a new milestone, with 39,455 people playing the online RPG at the same time on Steam on Sunday, April 14, per SteamDB. That's the most players together for the Steam version of the title since it launched on the service in April 2020. Fallout 76 originally came out in open beta in October 2018 on PC, PS4, and Xbox One.

There are two major factors helping Fallout 76. First off, Amazon Prime's Fallout show premiered last week to generally favorable reviews across the board. Why Deadpool And Wolverine Is Not Called Deadpool 3

A third Deadpool movie is coming this July, but it's called Deadpool and Wolverine and not Deadpool 3. Why is that? Director Shawn Levy told ScreenRant that Deadpool and Wolverine is different enough from the first two films to stand apart as its own thing. Instead of being just another Deadpool movie, it's a "two-hander" that features two main characters.

"As far as crafting the Deadpool and Wolverine story, I just felt privileged every day because you're talking about two massive movie stars in their most iconic roles," Levy said. "It also gave me an opportunity. It's the third Deadpool movie, but it's not Deadpool 3. It's a different thing that's very much Deadpool and Wolverine. And it's not trying to copycat anything from the first two movies. They were awesome, but this is a two-hander character adventure."

Levy also teased that early screenings of Deadpool and Wolverine have been "extremely, extremely promising." Portable PlayStation Created By Modder, Combines Vintage Tech With Loads Of Hot Glue

One modder has taken the idea of a portable PlayStation to the next level, transforming an original PlayStation console into a working handheld gaming device. Dubbed the PS Hanami by its creator, YveltalGriffin, the device was made within a month and is packed with vintage parts, "beefy" stereo speakers, and a ton of hot glue to keep everything in place.

According to YveltalGriffin's description, the motherboard from the PS1 had to be cut in half and rewired by hand to fit inside its new shell. The device can run for up to 2.5 hours on a full charge and is slightly larger than a PS Vita. It uses an XStation optical drive emulator to load games from an SD card. This build does have some slight issues, like no volume control, no heatsinks for when it begins to get "toasty" inside, and a temperamental power button.

Overall, it's an impressive feat of engineering, although if you're feeling nostalgic, there are easier alternatives available. A library of emulated PS1 games was available for both the PlayStation Portable and the PS Vita, and with the PlayStation Portal, you can stream classic games from your PS5 to that device via a PlayStation Plus Premium subscription. Those methods aren't as authentic as YveltalGriffin's PlayStation handheld, but for those of you who don't want to risk destroying classic gaming hardware or hot glue burns, those are far safer solutions.Continue Reading at GameSpot

Alex Garland's latest film, Civil War, was released in theaters this past weekend and it made enough money to set the record for the biggest opening weekend ever for film company A24.

The movie earned $25.7 million in North America this weekend, according to The Hollywood Reporter. It carried a production budget of $50 million and is A24's most expensive film yet, and this doesn't cover any marketing and promotional expenses.

Final Fantasy VII Remake Part 3's Story Might Already Be Done

According to Final Fantasy VII Rebirth Ultimania, a guidebook edited by Digital Hearts and published by Square Enix, the third part of the Final Fantasy VII remake trilogy already has its story completed.

As translated on Twitter, director Tetsuya Nomura, he believes that the voice acting process for the third game will start in the near future. Additionally, he said that producer Yoshinori Kitase came to him with "something" that wasn't in the original Final Fantasy VII game. While no further details about what that "something" could be, Nomura is thinking about how to deliver that and believes that audiences will respond positively to it if the team can pull it off.

Heroes Creator Plans New Revival Series - Report

Nearly two decades ago, Tim Kring's comic book-inspired superhero series, Heroes, was a breakout hit for NBC. Now, Kring is reportedly looking to revive the franchise with a new series. According to Deadline, the new revival show is called Heroes: Eclipsed, and it's currently being pitched to networks and streamers.

Heroes: Eclipsed will not be a full reboot of the original show. Instead, the story will focus on a new group of people who discover that they have powers. However, Deadline notes that the series will feature "familiar villains and new enemies who once again will be attempting to suppress this next step in human evolution."

The original Heroes premiered in 2006 and featured star-making turns by Milo Ventimiglia, Hayden Panettiere, Zachary Quinto, and Masi Oka. As originally conceived, ordinary people from around the world discovered that they superhuman abilities. But not all of them wanted to be heroic. Since its first announcement back in 2022, Hoyoverse has held multiple closed technical tests for its next adventure, Zenless Zone Zero across multiple platforms. Saw 11 And The Crow Delayed By Lionsgate

Do you want to play a game of release date shuffling? Well, Lionsgate does, as the studio has shifted two notable upcoming films: Saw 11 and The Crow starring Bill Skarsgård. The former has been delayed almost a full year, while the former sees a smaller change.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Saw 11 will now premiere theatrically on September 26, 2025. In December, when the horror sequel was announced after Saw X's success, the film was slated to arrive September 27 of this year. So, "the game continues," just not when we originally thought. Saw X saw generally favorable reviews and actually went back in time, canonically taking place between the first and second installments in the series.

Joker 2 Trailer Prepares Us To Laugh, Cry, And Sing

It's been five long years, but the first trailer for Joker 2 has arrived. Subtitled Folie à Deux (literal translation "madness for two", but medically speaking where two people share a delusion), the upcoming sequel continues the story from 2019's Oscar-winning Joker and introduces Lady Gaga as Harley Quinn into the fold.

Palworld's New Xbox Update Just Broke Multiplayer

Palworld recently added its first raid encounter, but unfortunately for Xbox users, the game's latest update also crippled its multiplayer functionality.

In a post on X, the official Palworld account asked that players temporarily not load multiplayer data on Xbox while it investigates an issue with the new patch.

In the Xbox version v0.2.0.6 that was released today, we have confirmed an issue where multiplayer player save data is not being loaded correctly when multiplayer save data from an older version is loaded.

It's no longer possible to play Mario Kart 7 against others across the world, as Nintendo has officially ended online support for 3DS and Wii U. In fact, one player was racing on Rainbow Road as Mario when the service shut down. That meant they couldn't reach the finish line and complete their last race.

On X (formerly known as Twitter), a user who goes by Jerm-X "captured the moment the 3DS online [service] shut down" by sharing video footage of their race in Mario Kart 7. COD: Details On Canceled Live-Service Zombies Standalone Game Revealed

A former Call of Duty developer at Raven Software has spilled the beans on a cancelled project from 2011, which would have been a live-service game entirely focused on COD's popular Zombies mode. While the project was said to be in pre-production between 2011 and 2012, it was reportedly cancelled likely due to fear of competition with the main line games.

Former Raven developer Michael Gummelt appeared in an interview with COD YouTuber Glitching Queen, after the cancelled Zombies title was revealed through his LinkedIn page. Gummelt revealed that the project was codenamed Project Zed, and was intended to be a free-to-play game supported by microtransactions, inspired by Raven's experience with developing and supporting the China-only live service title Call of Duty Online.

Gummelt says that the project started when Zombies was handed off to Raven Software, due to Treyarch being unsure if it wanted to move forward with the mode. Microsoft probably likes the inspirational quote, "Sometimes you have to take a step back to move forward." That's because Xbox has created a new team that will spearhead game preservation for the company now and into the future.

Windows Central reported that President of Xbox Sarah Bond sent out an email to her team announcing the new group. "We have formed a new team dedicated to game preservation, important to all of us at Xbox and the industry itself," wrote Bond. "We are building on our strong history of delivering backwards compatibility to our players, and we remain committed to bringing forward the amazing library of Xbox games for future generations of players to enjoy."

According to Windows Central, Microsoft confirmed the authenticity of Bond's email. In addition, Bond did post on X (formerly known as Twitter) after the report went live, saying, "Xbox. Always." How Fallout TV Show Is Like Batman Movies, According To Jonathan Nolan

The next big video game adaptation for TV is Fallout, and it's here this week on Prime Video. One of the executive producers and directors, Jonathan Nolan, has now discussed how the show is similar to the Batman films, which Nolan also worked on with his brother Christopher.

The Fallout games are known for being open-ended and non-linear, so what Nolan could do with the Fallout series is craft his own original story inside the wider Fallout universe. That's similar to what he and his brother did with the Batman series, he said on the Happy Sad Confused podcast.

GTA 6: A Key Theory Has Been Debunked

A running theory about Grand Theft Auto VI is that Troy Baker, one of the most popular and best-known voice actors in gaming, is voicing the male lead in the open-world game. Baker himself has now responded to that theory, telling The Movie Dweeb that he counts it as a compliment that people think it's him, but it's not.

"I want that guy, whoever it is, to get credit for his work, because I'm sure it's going to be great. That's a grind. Those guys pour themselves into those characters and they deserve all of the credit for their work," Baker said of people who do voicework for Rockstar Games.

When GTA VI's first trailer arrived in December 2023, some people believed Lucia's partner, rumored to be named Jason, was voiced by Baker because the one line the character has in the trailer sounds like Baker's voice. Steam Families Is A New And Improved Version Of Steam Family Sharing

Valve has announced Steam Families, a new Steam feature that wraps up the pre-existing Steam Family Sharing and Steam Family View, as well as some brand-new family features. The new feature allows Steam users to create a family of up to 6 household members in order to share games and implement content controls.

Users can create a family and invite up to 5 other members, who can be assigned as either an adult or a child. All users in the family will have their games shared in a family library, which works similarly to Steam's old Family Sharing feature.

Anyone in the family will be able to play any game in the library provided someone else isn't playing it already. If two people want to play the same game at the same time, then two members of the family have to own a copy of the game. WWE and Peacock Drop Trailer For Bray Wyatt Documentary

The WWE Universe lost a true icon when Windham Rotunda, who performed under Bray Wyatt, passed away this past August at only 36 years old. He was a second-generation wrestler who eventually became a three-time world champion. WWE and Peacock are releasing a documentary about his evolution and early days as Husky Harris to the creation of the Bray character.

Bray Wyatt: Becoming Immortal is narrated by Mark Calaway, who performed for over 30 years in WWE as the Undertaker. The film features never-before-seen footage from the WWE archives, as well as interviews from John Cena, Becky Lynch, Triple H, Hulk Hogan, and Taylor Rotunda, Wyatt’s brother who wrestled in WWE as Bo Dallas.

His father, Mike Rotunda, will be inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame during WrestleMania 40 weekend as part of The U.S. Express. His tag partner Barry Windham will also be inducted as a member of the Class of 2024. Halo Co-Creator Doesn't Have 'Anything Positive To Say' About EA After It Shuttered His Studio

Marcus Lehto, who until recently was the studio head of Ridgeline Games working on a new single-player focused entry in the Battlefield franchise, isn't happy about how EA treated his former studio.

Lehto, one of the co-creators of Halo, parted ways with Ridgeline and EA back in February just days ahead of mass layoffs at the publisher. Those layoffs saw the studio he helped build in 2022, Ridgeline Games, shuttered. It is estimated around 670 employees lost their jobs as part of EA's 5% workforce reduction. Many of the developers working at Ridgeline on a new Battlefield game were let go, though some were allowed to transfer to another Battlefield studio, Ripple Effect, according to IGN.

Balatro Is In The Works For Mobile And Just Passed A Big Sales Milestone

In just under a month, Balatro has already sold 1 million copies. Developer LocalThunk hopes to grow that number even larger as well, with mobile versions for the poker roguelite in the works.

The sales milestone was confirmed by the official Balatro account on X (formerly known as Twitter). Meanwhile, LocalThunk confirmed mobile ports were coming during a Reddit AMA last week. The developer also noted it was behind these new versions for Android and iOS, not outsourcing the ports.
