Just like the launch of Pokemon Go back in 2016, Pokemon Sleep has started its full rollout with a surprise launch in Australia, New Zealand, Canada, and Latin America. As picked up by Kotaku Australia, the game is now available in full on both iOS and Android for players in all these regions, with other regions likely to get access soon. Pokemon Go has often launched new features and game modes early in Australia and New Zealand, due to the countries' limited populations. These regions were also part of the limited Pokemon Sleep beta last week, which was initially open to Android users from Australia, New Zealand, Argentina, and Canada, and later extended to a number of other Latin American countries. Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic is celebrating its 20-year anniversary today, July 15, 2023. Below, we look at how it challenged and subverted some of Star Wars' most common tropes. Star Wars is obsessed with what machine and memory create, the blurred selves at the intersection of metal and flesh. Darth Vader is the clearest example of this. Anakin's descent to the dark side renders itself real in his deformed body. Obi-Wan says that he is "more machine than man," a fact that is leveraged in the stated impossibility of his redemption. Evil in Star Wars is associated with a disabled body, especially one that was once meat, muscle, and nerve, but is now wired with circuits. Droids cannot be "force-sensitive" the way people can, and thus they don't bear the moral weight of metal. But they are still seen as lesser. Droids provide slave labor and are owned by heroes and villains alike. A New Hope establishes within the first 20 minutes that droids' memories are routinely wiped. Luke's uncle Owen suggests it with the casualness of asking Luke to take out the trash. In the Star Wars universe, there is an entire class of people whose capacity to remember is entirely dependent upon the people who own them. Days after defeating the FTC’s challenge to its purchase of Activision Blizzard--and one day before its scheduled meeting with the UK’s CMA--Microsoft has reached an agreement with Sony to keep the Call Of Duty franchise on PlayStation post-merger. Capcom's new action game Exoprimal is available to play via Xbox Game Pass and PC Game Pass now. The game has launched for Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PS4, PS5, and PC, and serves as Capcom's newest IP. Exoprimal is a PvPvE action game that pits teams of players against deadly dinosaurs. Each player controls an exofighter that falls into one of three categories: Assualt, Tank, and Support. These various classes offer different abilities and teams must utilize them in conjunction with one another to survive the horde of dinosaurs. Exoprimal does support cross-play matchmaking but restricts its party system only to those within the same platform ecosystem. House Of The Dragon Season 2 Will Keep Shooting Despite Actors Strike

Apparently nothing stops the House of the Dragon train. A new report states that the HBO series will move ahead with filming Season 2 even after Hollywood actors and writers have gone on strike. According to Variety, sources informed the publication that UK actors--who make up a lot of the cast--can keep shooting House of the Dragon because they have contracts with a local union called Equity. Reportedly, Equity members are prohibited from joining the picket lines with SAG-AFTRA. Hollywood actors officially went on strike today, the group's first on since 1980. Equity issued a statement and advice about the Hollywood actors strike on its website, where it says the union represents 47,000 people. "Equity stands full square behind our sister union in their claim, and the action their board have agreed to take," the UK union statement says. Genshin Impact Voice Actors Say They Haven't Been Paid In Months

Despite the game's massive financial success, several Genshin Impact voice actors claim they aren't being paid. According to statements from various voice actors involved with the project, the game's developer, HoYoverse, is allegedly paying its voice actors poorly--and sometimes not paying them at all. Two voice actors have come forward publicly to share their experience with the studio on Twitter. Corina Boettger--the voice behind the popular NPC named Paimon--says the studio owes her thousands, and Brandon Winckler (who voices a number of minor roles) has shared a similar story after ultimately deciding to leave the production. How Cyberpunk 2077's Controversial Sinnerman Quest Was Created

Cyberpunk 2077's locale of Night City had no shortage of interesting stories, and in one of the more fascinating tales, players got to experience a strange saga of justice and redemption. Sinnerman starts off with what seems to be a straight-forward revenge plot gone wrong, but as quest director Pawel Sasko explained in a new Audio Logs video, there's an incredible amount of nuanced work happening in this quest that subtly guides the player. As Sasko explained, every character movement, line, and even a seemingly stray ray of light serve a purpose in setting up this quest, in which you're introduced to convicted murderer Joshua Stephenson. This entire quest, and its two accompanying missions that end with an actual crucifixion that you can play a part in if you see it through to the end, tie into themes of existentialism that are woven throughout Cyberpunk 2077's world. While Stephenson never claims to be a messianic figure, his quests are littered with iconic moments and characters pulled from the Christian Bible. Stephenson has a moment to grab a meal before his execution that's directly inspired by Leonardo da Vinci's Last Supper painting, and he even has his own Judas accompanying him. Eventually, the quest leads to one of the more empathic moments of Cyberpunk 2077 as you're given a chance to join Stephenson in prayer, and even here, players are given a choice as to how they want to approach a spiritual moment in the game.Continue Reading at GameSpot

Following Microsoft's recent win against the Federal Trade Committee in US federal court, the company may once again be taken to the stand. The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) has moved to appeal the recent court order ruling not to grant the temporary injunction on Microsoft that the FTC was seeking. As reported by The Verge, the FTC has filed a notice that the committee is appealing Judge Jacqueline Scott Corley's decision. The FTC's full argument against the decision will not be revealed until the appeal is submitted to the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals. Old CoD Games' Matchmaking Might Have Been Fixed

It appears that matchmaking for older Call of Duty games, including Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, Modern Warfare 2, and Modern Warfare 3, has been fixed on Xbox 360. Previously, Xbox 360 players were unable to load into matches, despite the active communities across each game. Pokemon Go Developer Niantic Accused Of "Sexist Work Culture" In Lawsuit

Pokemon Go developer Niantic is being sued by a former employee alleging a "sexist work culture" where she was paid less than male colleagues, despite having a higher position and having been at the company for longer. As reported by The Verge, the anonymous employee, referred to as Jane Doe, is seeking class-action status for the lawsuit. Class-action status would enable employees affected by Niantic's alleged "boys club" mentality to be compensated for damages and lost pay stemming from being underpaid and passed over for promotions due to the company's discriminatory workplace culture, according to the lawsuit. The aforementioned Jane Doe worked at Niantic from 2020 until last week, when the company laid off more than 200 employees, including Doe. In 2021, she alleges she was making $81,000 a year, but learned that a male colleague who had been hired more recently and at a lower-ranking position was earning more than her. The male colleague continued to make more than Doe in 2022 and 2023 even after she was given raises. Sonic Co-Creator Yuji Naka Sentenced For Insider Trading, Can Avoid Jail Time

The weird tale of an iconic former Sega developer who used insider information at Square Enix for stock trading has come to a close. Yuji Naka, co-creator of Sonic the Hedgehog and most recently the director of Balan Wonderworld, was given a two-and-a-half year prison sentence that's suspended for four years. Jiji Press (via IGN) reports that Naka--who also worked on Nights Into Dreams and Phantasy Star Online--was found guilty of insider trading while employed at Square Enix. That means he broke the law under Japan's Financial Instruments and Exchange Act. His suspended sentence gives Naka the chance to avoid jail time by staying out of trouble during the four-year probation period. However, Naka was fined twice for an estimated $1.2 million (after converting from yen). This stems from the Sonic co-creator actually being arrested twice late last year. He was first apprehended for insider trading at Square Enix by purchasing stock in a developer named Aiming that was working on an unannounced Dragon Quest mobile game at the time. Visual Concepts and 2K Sports have announced that Kobe Bryant, the late great Lakers legend, will return to the cover of the series for the fourth time. He will be on the cover of the NBA 2K24 Black Mamba Edition and the standard edition, known this year as the Kobe Bryant Edition.
