A Long-Abandoned Game Boy Advance Game Is Finally Out Now

A Long-Abandoned Game Boy Advance Game Is Finally Out Now

There have been countless video games that have been canceled before their release, but very few that have been canceled three times. Kien, a Game Boy Advance title that was originally slated to be released in 2002, is one of the few. Review copies of Kien went out to contemporary gaming magazines, including Nintendo Power, but the game was pulled before its release. Two subsequent release attempts also fell through. But now, 22 years later, Kien has finally gotten an official release from Incube8 Games.

The digital version of Kien was is now available, and a GBA cartridge release will follow later this year. To mark the the game's first-ever official release, Incube8 Games has dropped a new trailer for Kien.

Kien is a side-scrolling action platforming game with some light RPG touches that lets players control either a male warrior or a priestess. There are 23 levels in the game, but Kien also lets players pick their own non-linear path through them. In other words, you get to pick the order in which you play the levels.Continue Reading at GameSpot

Shovel Knight Sequel And Shovel Of Hope DX Are On The Way

Shovel Knight Sequel And Shovel Of Hope DX Are On The Way

Ten years ago this month, the retro side-scrolling action game Shovel Knight made its debut. To celebrate the anniversary, Yacht Club Games live-streamed an event that featured two big announcements. The first was a new definitive version of the game, Shovel Knight: Shovel of Hope DX. And the second piece of news was confirmation that a Shovel Knight sequel is also in development.

Shovel of Hope DX is coming to Steam, and it features a number of enhancements that weren't present in the original Shovel Knight. To start, gamers can choose between 20 playable characters, from Shovel Knight and Shield Knight to their adversary, the Enchantress. Those aren't simply cosmetic changes, as each character has their own abilities and play styles. The game is also adding a rewind function, as well as 300 cheats that can be applied for a unique gameplay experience.

Additionally, Shovel of Hope DX will include Challenge Stages, Custom Knight, and the Battle Ghost Arena, as well full Stereoscopic 3D. Online and local multiplayer options are also supported.Continue Reading at GameSpot

A Quiet Place Game Finally Revealed And It Looks Terrifying

A Quiet Place Game Finally Revealed And It Looks Terrifying

Back in 2021, Saber Interactive announced it was making a video game based on the film series A Quiet Place, and now the game has been officially unveiled. A Quiet Place: The Road Ahead is a new atmospheric horror game from Stormind Games and Saber, and it's set for release in 2024.

The eerie announcement trailer shows that the game follows the formula of the film series, which is that players must remain quiet to prevent the aliens from detecting them. The Road Ahead is set for release on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S later this year.

The Road Ahead doesn't re-tell the story of A Quiet Place or A Quiet Place 2 (or the upcoming prequel Day One) but instead tells an original story inspired by the movie series. Players take on the role of a young survivor attempting to make their way through a very scary post-apocalyptic world.Continue Reading at GameSpot

Here Is What The Pope Thinks About AI

Here Is What The Pope Thinks About AI

Artificial intelligence, or AI, is one of the most-discussed news topics in recent years. Seemingly everyone is weighing in with their thoughts on how AI might change the world--from video games and movies to politics and more. Now, the Pope has shared his thoughts during the G7 Summit in Italy.

As reported by Vatican News, the Pope said AI is a "true cognitive-industrial revolution" that he believes will lead to "complex epochal transformations."

He said AI could lead to transformations that are both good and bad. For example, AI advancements might help democratize access to knowledge and help with scientific research, the Pope said. He also noted that AI might help reduce "demanding and arduous work." At the same time, advancements to AI could lead to a "greater injustice between advanced and developing nations or between dominant and oppressed social classes," he said.Continue Reading at GameSpot

The Blair Witch Project Cast Opens Up About How Hollywood Has Treated Them

The Blair Witch Project Cast Opens Up About How Hollywood Has Treated Them

In 1999, The Blair Witch Project ushered in the age of found footage horror films, and it had the unique touch of a marketing campaign that pretended its cast members--Heather Donahue, Michael Williams, and Joshua Leonard--actually went missing while investigating a local legend and were feared dead. The movie earned $248.6 million off of an initial budget that was estimated to be between $35,000 and $60,000. It also sparked the beginning of a two-decade and counting fight for the stars to be properly compensated.

Last month, Lionsgate announced plans for a new Blair Witch Project movie that will be produced by Jason Blum and Roy Lee. In response, Donahue, Williams, and Leonard issued an open letter asking for "meaningful consultation" for any projects that use their names and faces as well as retroactive and future payments for the original Blair Witch Project as if it had been filmed under SAG-AFTRA rules. Subsequently, the trio spoke to Variety at length about the struggle they've endured for the last 25 years.

"I'm very grateful for what I have now and how f***ing hard I fought to get it," said Williams. "But it still impacts me. I buried all this. Giant corporations don't care that this happens to young artists. It's bulls***. And that's got to change somehow. Hopefully, we will help somebody to see: Don't do what we did."Continue Reading at GameSpot

Fans Think A New Red Faction Game Is Coming, But Don't Get Your Hopes Up Yet

THQ Nordic will be at Gamescom 2024 and have two currently unannounced games at the showcase, along with Gothic remake, Titan Quest II, and Disney Epic Mickey: Rebrushed. Fans think that one of the two unannounced games is a new Red Faction.

THQ Nordic gave clues as to what the two games are by providing the number of letters in their titles. While the first game is hard to decipher, the second one has five words and 23 letters in total:

* Unannounced game 1: _ _ _ _ _ _
* Unannounced game 2: _ _ _ [space] _ _ _ _ _ _ _ [space] _ _ _ _ [space] _ _ [space] _ _ _ _ _ _ _

The first word has three letters, and the second one has seven letters. Fans quickly began to realize that "Red" and "Faction" fit. The remaining words are what the subtitle might be.Continue Reading at GameSpot

Jurassic World fans only have a year until the newest addition to the Jurassic franchise arrives in theaters. Marvel's Blade Reboot Loses Another Director

Marvel's Blade Reboot Loses Another Director

Mahershala Ali and Kevin Feige jointly announced Marvel's Blade reboot in 2019, but getting the movie off the ground has been no easy task. The new film has been plagued by script problems and delays. Director Bassam Tariq exited the project in 2022. Now, Tariq's replacement, Yann Demange, has also stepped down from Blade.

The Wrap broke the story about Demange's departure, which the outlet reports is "entirely amicable." But it also leaves the reboot without a director 17 months before the film was supposed to open in theaters. However, the report states that getting Blade right is more of a priority for Marvel than getting it out quickly. Given Marvel's new mandate to only release two to three films a year, Blade's November 7, 2025 release date was already in question. Ali is currently in negotiations to join the next Jurassic World movie, which could also affect his availability for Blade.

Fantastic Four screenwriter Eric Pearson is working on the current draft of Blade. Some of the writers previously attached to the script include True Detective creator Nic Pizzolatto, Michael Starrbury, and Michael Green. It's also unclear if any of the announced Blade cast members, including MaXXXine's Mia Goth, are still attached to the film.Continue Reading at GameSpot

Elden Ring Gets Story Recap Video Ahead Of Shadow Of The Erdtree DLC

Elden Ring Gets Story Recap Video Ahead Of Shadow Of The Erdtree DLC

Later this month, Bandai Namco is diving back into the world of Elden Ring with the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC. That's assuming that players ever left one of the best games of 2022. As of this month, Elden Ring has sold over 25 million copies to become the best-selling game in Bandai Namco's history. But for any newcomers to the game, or anyone who just wants a recap of what came before, Bandai Namco has released a new Elden Ring video called The Journey So Far.

Game of Thrones creator George R. R. Martin helped Hidetaka Miyazaki create the backstory and the world of Elden Ring, and the game has a deep mythology behind it. The video offers a very condensed version of the lore, including the introduction of the Lands Between and the destruction of the Elden Ring.

Additionally, the video briefly revisits the story of the player character, The Tarnished, and the alliance they make with Malenia to bring her to the Erdtree. Anyone who has already played through the game should recognized the snippets that follow as the Tarnished amasses the power that is necessary to finish the quest, restore the Elden Ring, and become the new Elden Lord. If you're looking for a more complete explanation of the story, we've put one together here.Continue Reading at GameSpot

Iconic Perfect Dark Dev Says He "Would've Loved" To Work On The Reboot

Joanna Dark won't be jamming out to music from one of Perfect Dark's original composers. That's because Grant Kirkhope has revealed on social media that he isn't involved with the upcoming reboot from developers The Initiative and Crystal Dynamics.

GamesRadar noticed that Kirkhope voiced his desire to work on the new Perfect Dark on X (formerly known as Twitter). The composer--who's known for creating the DK Rap as well as GoldenEye 007's pause music--wrote a post that said: "I would've loved to have scored the new Perfect Dark, alas it wasn't to be."

Additionally, in a follow-up post on X, Kirkhope revealed that he "demoed for [the Perfect Dark reboot], but they chose someone else." Most recently, the composer has worked on Mario + Rabbids: Sparks of Hope and the Yooka-Laylee franchise. Last year, Kirkhope admitted he's not convinced people want another Banjo-Kazooie game, a franchise he previously worked on as well.Continue Reading at GameSpot

Prepare To Typo With FromSoft Word, The Dark Souls Of Typing

Prepare To Typo With FromSoft Word, The Dark Souls Of Typing

Since From Software found mainstream success with games like Demon's Souls and Dark Souls, there have been a lot of games inspired by those titles. The Souls-like formula can be found in a wide variety of games from different genres, but now, you can finally put your fingers to the test with the Dark Souls of word processors. Available now for free on Itch.io, FromSoft Word challenges you to type up a storm and not make any typos.

There's no F7 to save you, and no Grammarly to suggest you change a few words up--only a blank page, foreboding music, and the threat of an instant failure if you make a single typo. May the Elden Lords help you if you have a name that is spelled differently from the established norm and you type that down on the sheet.

Created by Steven Nass and Peter Henningsen, FromSoft Word is more challenging than your first fight against Manus, Father of the Abyss. If you're used to typing up a storm and editing later, you're going to be in for a hell of a fight. The Dark Souls influence is also evident through the choice of font and familiar background music, and the real challenge here is to see how much you can type before you're finally stopped by a grammatical error. Unfortunately, there are no bonfire checkpoints to save your progress every couple of pages.Continue Reading at GameSpot

The Acolyte Episode 3 Has A Troubling Story Connection To The Star Wars Movies

The Acolyte Episode 3 Has A Troubling Story Connection To The Star Wars Movies

The latest Disney+ Star Wars series, The Acolyte, has drawn raves from critics (including me!) and fans alike, and there's one thing that kinda binds those of us who enjoy it: That it's completely apart from the rest of the franchise because it takes place 100 years before the movies. The Star Wars franchise has so often made the galaxy feel very small, and this appears to be a nice break from that. But I'm very concerned that that's about to change, based on a key piece of info we got during this week's third episode, which told most of the story of how Mae and Osha were separated when they were kids.

Warning: This article will discuss some major spoilers from Episode 3 of The Acolyte.

This week's episode reveals that the twins were raised in an all-female coven of Force witches who had been exiled from an unknown place and were living off the grid on a supposedly otherwise uninhabited planet outside of Republic space. Their mother is a zabrak called Mother Coral, and the clan is led by a human called Mother Aniseya--given those titles, and the presence of a zabrak, these are likely a sect of the Witches of Dathomir, who played a key role last year in Ahsoka, but this is never made explicit.Continue Reading at GameSpot

Dragon Age: The Veilguard Rights Inquisition's Greatest Sin

Dragon Age: The Veilguard Rights Inquisition's Greatest Sin

After 10 years, BioWare is finally letting you kiss Lace Harding, the dwarven scout who acts as your initial eyes and ears whenever your character uncovers a new area in Dragon Age: Inquisition. Though you can flirt with her numerous times and establish a strong rapport with Harding, she is not a romantic option in Inquisition--she's not even an official companion. That all changes in Dragon Age: The Veilguard--previously titled Dreadwolf--as Harding is not only one of the seven recruitable companions in the game, but she's a romance option, too.

Harding is, without a doubt, one of the best parts about Inquisition. Sarcastic and playful, she's willing to trade a few verbal barbs with the Inquisitor if the two establish a bond, and she's a bright and shining spot even during Inquisition's darkest moments, sticking with you and the Inquisition no matter where you choose to go. Fans have been pining for the cute dwarf ever since Inquisition launched in 2014, and I've often wished she could have had a larger part to play in Dragon Age's story. So I was pleasantly surprised to learn that she'll be a major player in the fourth Dragon Age game.

At Summer Game Fest, I got to see the opening hour of The Veilguard played by game director Corrine Busche, who answered many of my questions about the upcoming RPG, including how romance would play a part in it. Unlike previous Dragon Age games, which included romantic partners of various sexualities and ancestral preferences, all of the companions in The Veilguard are bisexual and don't seem to have any racial preferences--you can smooch them regardless of who your character, Rook, is--so long as you raise your relationship status high enough.Continue Reading at GameSpot

The Boys To Conclude With Season 5

Eric Kripke, showrunner and creator of The Boys, has confirmed that the Amazon Prime Video series will conclude with its fifth season. Kripke announced the news on Tuesday via X, ahead of the Season 4 premiere on June 13, with a redacted screenshot of the script for the immediately upcoming season's finale.

"Season 5 will be the Final Season!" Kripke said, "Always my plan, I just had to be cagey till I got the final OK from Vought." Check out the tweet below and learn that Season 4 will end--spoiler--with something taking place at night.

#TheBoys Season 4 Premiere Week is a good time to announce: Season 5 will be the Final Season! Always my plan, I just had to be cagey till I got the final OK from Vought. Thrilled to bring the story to a gory, epic, moist climax. Watch Season 4 in 2 DAYS, cause the end has begun! pic.twitter.com/3p7Wt4jGA6 — Eric Kripke (@therealKripke) June 11, 2024

As recently as the beginning of June, Kripke was still quoted in interviews saying that The Boys might not end after Season 5, but the bottom of the script page above spells out that isn't the case. Speculation about the series ending increased when Amazon renewed The Boys for a fifth season just before the promotional tour for Season 4. Kripke did tell Empire that he has an ending in mind for The Boys, an inevitable resolution to the central conflict between Billy Butcher and Homelander. "You can't build a show that's about these two forces of Homelander and Butcher slowly closing in on each other without bringing that to a head," Kripke said. "Whenever that last episode occurs, I know what happens."Continue Reading at GameSpot

Assassin's Creed: Shadows, Palworld, Control, And More Coming To Mac

Gamers have come to expect that most of the AAA titles are going to available on either consoles or PC. But at this year's Worldwide Developer's Conference, Apple signaled its increased focus on gaming by bringing some pretty big games to Mac. As a centerpiece for that shift, Ubisoft announced that Assassin's Creed Shadows is coming to Mac on November 15, the same day that it's hitting PC and consoles.

"At Ubisoft, our mission is to enrich players' lives by creating original and memorable gaming experiences," said Ubisoft producer Marc-Alexis Côté during WWDC. "We see a huge opportunity to share our passion for games to more players in the Apple ecosystem thanks to the unified gaming platform with tight integration of Metal and Apple silicon."

According to Apple, the new Game Porting Toolkit 2 will allow developers like Ubisoft to bring more advanced games to Mac with greater Windows compatibility. Following Ubisoft's brief presentation of Assassin's Creed Shadows, Apple confirmed that the following games are also coming to Mac and other Apple devices.Continue Reading at GameSpot

This Game Is Like Ace Attorney For People Not Fun At Parties, Like Me

This Game Is Like Ace Attorney For People Not Fun At Parties, Like Me

I hate small talk. I don't feel I'm any good at it. I don't want to engage in it. I practically run from it if I see it coming. But I love talking about big ideas, especially philosophy. Quite obviously, that makes me annoying. I admit it. People minding their own business in a casual setting may feel assaulted by my unprovoked diatribes about Nagel's concept of moral luck, humankind's supposed dominion over other animals, or the virtues of a restorative justice system. Thankfully, with Pro Philosopher 2: Governments and Grievances, everyone in my personal life can enjoy a reprieve from my ceaseless desire to debate and discuss topics like these as I work to beat this game instead.

Pro Philosopher 2 (PP2) is modeled closely after the Ace Attorney series but recontextualizes Capcom's art style and mechanics to focus on philosophical debates rather than pit players in a court drama. Here you don't present evidence that refutes the claims being spoken from the witness stand; you find holes in the arguments of your verbal sparring partner.

The first game, which focused on moral philosophy specifically, is on Steam for free following a debut on Kongregate years ago that earned it some cult praise. I came to the series with the upcoming second game, which very pointedly focuses on political philosophy this time around. Because if there's one thing gamers love, it's politics in their games.Continue Reading at GameSpot

Ian McKellen Says He Would Consider New Lord Of The Rings Movie If He's Not Dead Yet

Ian McKellen Says He Would Consider New Lord Of The Rings Movie If He's Not Dead Yet

Actor Ian McKellen famously played the wise wizard Gandalf in Peter Jackson's The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit trilogies, but could he come back for the next film, the tentatively titled The Hunt for Gollum?

McKellen, 85, told The Sunday Times (via USA Today) that he would consider it, "If I'm alive." Given his age, McKellen says he is very thoughtful of taking on roles because each could be his last. "So when a script comes through, or the hint of an offer, you think, 'This might be my last job. No. I'm not doing that,'" he said.

For The Hunt for Gollum specifically, McKellen said there is "no script, there is no offer, there is no plan." However, McKellen said he's heard rumblings that Gandalf would be in the movie (and that makes sense given its subject matter), going on to note that he has not shaved "in months." Gandalf, of course, is known for his lengthy grey beard.Continue Reading at GameSpot

CoD: Black Ops 6 Will Require Players To Be Online Across All Modes, Including Campaign

Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 was officially revealed following the Xbox Games Showcase, and now a new blog post from Activision confirms players will need continuous internet connection in order to play the game.

Activision says that an internet connection is required to play all modes in Black Ops 6, including the campaign, due to the game's new texture-streaming technology. The statement from the publisher says this requirement is necessary because Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 will use texture streaming across all game modes, allowing the developer to "deliver the highest-quality visuals while also reducing the game's overall storage space on your hard drive."

While this can be a bummer for some players just looking to enjoy the story experience offline, Activision says the campaign can still be played on console without a premium subscription service such as Game Pass Core or PlayStation Plus.Continue Reading at GameSpot

Every Game Shown Off During The Wholesome Direct

Every Game Shown Off During The Wholesome Direct

This year's Wholesome Direct was a real doozy, showing off over 70 games. Whether you're in the mood to open up a traveling book store in Tiny Bookshop, raise an assortment of faithful crablings in Crab God, perform tricks on your witch's skatebroom in Ila: A Frosty Glide, or test your mettle in a 3D Legend of Zelda meets social sim in Dungeons Of Hinterberg, the Wholesome Direct has a little bit for everyone. Below, we round up every game shown off during the Wholesome Direct, listed in the order of their reveal.

During the Direct, four of the games that were shown off were shadow dropped onto Steam as well--frog-focused farming simulator Kamaeru: A Frog Refuge, pool-inspired physics puzzler POOOOL, '90s rural India-set slice-of-life adventure The Palace on the Hill, and card-based talk-'em-up RPG Tracks of Thought. All four games look fantastic if you're looking for something to play while awaiting the next Summer Game Fest announcement or livestream.

Mythmatch

Revealed for the first time during the Wholesome Direct, Mythmatch sees you play as Artemis, Greek goddess of the hunt and wisdom, who uses her innate talents to solve environmental match-three puzzles. Her efforts help her learn more about the lives of mortals and her fellow Olympians, allowing her to "match" and bring them together as well.Continue Reading at GameSpot

Newcomer Vox Reaper And Series Vet B. Jenet Join Fatal Fury: City Of The Wolves Roster

Today during Summer Game Fest, SNK revealed the next two characters--one returning and one brand-new--for its upcoming fighter Fatal Fury: City Of The Wolves. The two additions, pirate captain B. Jenet and "street assassin" Vox Reaper, will increase the known roster to eight characters, with more to come before the game's early 2025 launch.

B. Jenet returns from 1999's Garou: Mark Of The Wolves--and, more recently, her appearance in The King Of Fighters XV--with a punishing kick-based offensive style. Her character trailer also shows off her ability to jump over low projectiles and follow up with a quick counter for big damage.

Vox Reaper, meanwhile, is the newest addition to the Fatal Fury universe. An assassin who was tasked with bringing down the previous game's villain Kain, Vox's style features shoulder tackles, a command grab, and a stylish super move where he swiftly runs past an opponent and overloads them with his dark energy.Continue Reading at GameSpot

All Visions Of The Traveler Locations In Destiny 2: The Final Shape

Like other destinations introduced by past expansions, the Pale Heart of the Traveler added to Destiny 2 in The Final Shape is full of collectible items that expand on the story. These are Visions of the Traveler, a bunch of little Travelers that are hidden around the Pale Heart and that you can pick up to trigger new dialogue from various characters. The Visions also earn you a Triumph, and some other reward we're not quite sure about yet (but we'll update this when we do).

You can't start picking up Visions of the Traveler until you've completed The Final Shape's story campaign and begun exploring the destination in its entirety. Once you've fully unlocked the Lost City's Tower location in the Pale Heart, you'll find the room at the south side where you can store the Visions. Each of the columns here will provide you with clues as to where to find the Visions of the Traveler in each of the areas of the Pale Heart, as well.

Here's a complete rundown of where to find every Vision of the Traveler in the Pale Heart.Continue Reading at GameSpot

Civilization 7 Leaks Ahead Of Summer Game Fest

While the popular theory was that 2K Games would unveil Borderlands 4 at Summer Game Fest, it now seems likely that Sid Meier's Civilization VII will be the major game revealed by the company later today.

Insider Gaming noted that a banner for Civilization VII popped up for a brief time on the 2K Games website earlier today. However, it has been removed at time of this publication, though can be seen below. The report adds that content creators and some media members are aware of an announcement for the title as well.

Hogwarts Legacy - How To Use Photo Mode

Hogwarts Legacy - How To Use Photo Mode

One of the most highly-requested features from the community since the launch of Hogwarts Legacy has been a Photo Mode. The ability to capture unique images of characters, locations, or scenes is an invaluable part of the open-world experience in gaming. While many fans thought the idea of a Photo Mode in Hogwarts Legacy was dead, the recent summer update changed that.

The summer update introduced a flurry of content into the game, including the long-awaited Photo Mode. You can now take professional screenshots in-game and share them with the world, but you'll first have to understand how to access and use Photo Mode.

Accessing Photo Mode in Hogwarts Legacy

Before you can start taking pictures, there's one requirement you need to meet. Photo Mode is only available after you complete the main mission where you unlock the Field Guide. Once that mission is complete, which occurs within the first hour or so of Hogwarts Legacy, you can start using Photo Mode.Continue Reading at GameSpot

How To Get Ergo Sum, The New Exotic Sword In Destiny 2: The Final Shape

How To Get Ergo Sum, The New Exotic Sword In Destiny 2: The Final Shape

Destiny 2: The Final Shape introduces a new Exotic sword to the game in the form of Ergo Sum, and if you're lucky, this could be one of the most powerful weapons in the game. Ergo Sum is unique in a variety of ways: Not only can it be wildly different based on rolls you obtain, but it's also a sword that goes in the Energy weapon slot, unlike any previous weapon of this type.

Where things get really interesting is with Ergo Sum's intrinsic trait, as it can inherit one of several abilities from other Exotic weapons. With the right roll, you could get the sword with Gjallarhorn's Wolfpack Rounds or Cloudstrike's Stormbringer. Getting the weapon is also simple, and you can farm the Overthrow public event in the Pale Heart to potentially get new rolls.

It's worth pointing out that Ergo Sum's form isn't set in stone either, as you can get one with a different frame. Each unique sword frame has its own characteristics, like a Wave Sword frame allowing for shockwave uppercuts when you trigger its heavy attack. If all of this sounds like a recipe for success, here's how you can get Ergo Sum and the possible rolls you can unlock.Continue Reading at GameSpot

Avalanche Software's wizarding world RPG, Hogwarts Legacy, just received its summer update, which features a plethora of new features, from new cosmetics and broomsticks to the expansion of a quest that makes it available to players on all platforms.

The update also includes a series of new character cosmetics and new brooms, allowing players to zoom around the Hogwarts campus in style. All of the update's features--including cosmetics--are available for free (though it's possible some of them must first be unlocked in-game via quests or other activities). Disney World And Florida Closing In On A New Deal For Fifth Theme Park

Disney World And Florida Closing In On A New Deal For Fifth Theme Park

Walt Disney World Resort in Florida is not exactly hurting for attractions between its four theme parks spread across 39 square miles. But with Disney's top competitor, Universal Studios Orlando, set to open an expansion with Epic Universe next year, Disney World and the state of Florida have a tentative agreement that would add a fifth theme park to the resort.

Via Deadline, the agreement between Disney and Florida calls for $17 billion in investment from Disney over "the next 10 to 20 years" in exchange for a development deal that provides "assurances and guardrails" from the state. The agreement is part of Disney Parks' plans to invest $60 billion in its theme park resorts around the world.

According to the report, one more vote will take place next week before the deal with Flordia is finalized. The agreement also stipulates that Disney has to put down at least $8 billion dollars within the first 10 years of the agreement. Those funds can be applied to "capital investment in existing infrastructure, new construction, and technology investment."Continue Reading at GameSpot

Lego Horizon Game Reportedly Set For PS5 And PC, Getting Summer Game Fest Reveal

A Lego Horizon game, called Lego Horizon Adventures, is reportedly going to be announced during Summer Game Fest.

According to Dealabs, the game is an action-adventure one and will be released simultaneously on PS5 and PC. It also reportedly supports co-op as well as cross-platform play between both platforms. For the PC version of the game, it will apparently require a PSN account to access, something that players have taken issue with in the past, especially with Helldivers 2. However, it seems like Sony is still moving forward with the requirement for future releases on PC.

Additionally, the game will also reportedly support in-app purchases. Whether it's in the form of microtransactions or DLC is currently unknown.Continue Reading at GameSpot

The Thing Remaster Seemingly Teased By Nightdive Studios

The Thing Remaster Seemingly Teased By Nightdive Studios

A thing could be announced at IGN Live tomorrow, June 7. In fact, it could be a remaster of The Thing, a 2002 action-adventure game based on John Carpenter's classic 1982 film.

Nightdive Studios--the developer behind game remasters ranging from franchises like Turok to Star Wars--teased on X (formerly known as Twitter) that it will reveal its next game this coming Friday at the IGN show. The image on the social media post looks identical to the background of The Thing's box art from the early 2000s, only in a different color from the original blue.

Who wants to guess the game we'll be announcing this Friday at @IGN Live? 👀
Hint: pic.twitter.com/qmdtyJII2n — Nightdive Studios (@NightdiveStudio) June 5, 2024

The Thing isn't a retelling of the 1982 movie, which starred Kurt Russell, but instead picks up after the film. GameSpot's The Thing review was positive at the time, but notes "it could have been great" and specifically calls out "a wonky control scheme." It'll be interesting to see if that aspect is addressed if Nightdive is in fact remastering the title.Continue Reading at GameSpot

The Acolyte's Star And Creator Were Surprised The Twist Didn't Leak

The Acolyte's Star And Creator Were Surprised The Twist Didn't Leak

In 2019, the first episode of The Mandalorian surprised Star Wars fans with the reveal of Grogu, who was immediately dubbed "Baby Yoda" among fandom. This week, The Acolyte carried on that tradition by launching with a surprise twist that was successfully kept quiet ahead of the show's two-episode premiere. And no one is more shocked that the secret remained intact than The Acolyte creator Leslye Headland and the star of the series, Amandla Stenberg.

Warning: the following contains spoilers from the first two episodes of The Acolyte on Disney+. If you haven't seen the episodes or don't want to know what happens, stop reading now.

By now, Star Wars fans know that Stenberg isn't just playing a renegade Jedi killer named Mae. She's also portraying Mae's twin sister, Osha Aniseya, a young woman who was once a Padawan learner. Most of the footage seen in the trailers only featured Mae, which successfully hid Osha's existence until the show's debut. During an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, both Headland and Stenberg expressed their surprise that spoilers didn't ruin the reveal.Continue Reading at GameSpot

Homelander then enters the scene and informs Ryan of Billy's condition and that he doesn't have much longer to live. Super Mario RPG Gets Huge Discount Ahead Of Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door's Launch Next Week

Super Mario RPG Gets Huge Discount Ahead Of Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door's Launch Next Week

Super Mario RPG for Nintendo Switch is on sale for a low price at Amazon and Walmart. You can grab a physical copy of the beloved turn-based RPG for only $43 at Amazon and Walmart. This is the lowest price we've seen at a major retailer since the modernized Super Nintendo hit launched last holiday. It's also a pretty great time to dive into the world of Mario role-playing games, as the Switch version of Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door releases next week. See at Amazon Super Mario RPG

Incredibly faithful to the beloved original, Super Mario RPG is a charming Switch game enhanced with several quality-of-life changes that make it more approachable to newcomers. Mario RPG veterans will appreciate the series of post-game fights that really test your prowess. Beyond those additions and tweaks, Super Mario RPG on Switch plays very similarly as the iconic original on Super Nintendo. The excellent turn-based combat still feels great today, the characters and writing are heartfelt and humorous, and the world design still has that classic Nintendo charm.

GameSpot's Super Mario RPG review found the modernized version of the SNES classic to be a delight. "Super Mario RPG is one of the wildest games in Nintendo's catalog. Loaded with eccentric characters like a Santa-esque big bad, random bouts of dark comedy--Toad cosplayers tickle as a form of torture and a four-eyed dog swallows you whole and comments on the taste--and moment-to-moment gameplay that is as raucous as it is eclectic, Super Mario RPG memorably capped off the SNES lifecycle. Fittingly, the new Switch version is one of the weirdest remasters I've ever played. Its surface-level appearance as a modern Mario game is merely a facade. Relentlessly faithful to the original, Super Mario RPG is a bold and largely successful experiment."Continue Reading at GameSpot

New Silent Hill Movie's Pyramid Head Revealed At Cannes Film Festival

New Silent Hill Movie's Pyramid Head Revealed At Cannes Film Festival

Silent Hill 2's legendary antagonist, Pyramid Head, is finally headed back to the big screen, and audiences caught their first glimpse of the geometric monstrosity this week when the film previewed at the 2024 Cannes Film Festival.

Directed by Christophe Gans (who also directed the first Silent Hill film back in 2006), Return To Silent Hill is the third film in the Silent Hill franchise, and is also considered to be a reboot of sorts. The first two films drew inspiration from various Silent Hill games and included some of the series' most well-known characters. However, neither 2006's Silent Hill nor 2012's Silent Hill: Revelation were true adaptations of one specific Silent Hill game, but rather amalgamations of them. Return To Silent Hill, on the other hand, is aiming to be a faithful adaptation of Konami's 2001 horror masterpiece, Silent Hill 2.

"There is a clear idea from Christophe to make it modern, but also very true to the video game… Christophe is really somebody that respects the work that has been done, but that also has his own vision," said Victor Hadida, who served as a producer on the first two Silent Hill films.Continue Reading at GameSpot

Furiosa Review Roundup: Critics Weigh In On The New Mad Max Movie

Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga comes to theaters later this month, and hopes are high after 2015's Mad Max: Fury Road was praised by critics and fans, and won six Academy Awards.

Reviews for the film have now begun to appear online ahead of its May 24 debut in the US, painting a picture of the movie's critical reception. On GameSpot sister site Metacritic, Furiosa has an 83 metascore, while the film is rated 86% on Rotten Tomatoes. In short, critics are generally saying nice things about the movie. As always, though, your mileage may vary based on a wide variety of factors.

Furiosa stars Anya Taylor-Joy as the title character, Furiosa, a role that Oscar-winner Charlize Theron played in Fury Road. The filmmakers considered using de-aging technology to bring Theron back, but ultimately decided to cast someone new in the prequel.Continue Reading at GameSpot
