Steam just got a large update which unifies the code base of Steam clients, introduces UI changes, and completely overhauls the in-game overlay. The biggest change in the update is somewhat invisible. The Steam client operates on a new framework now, meaning that more features will ship simultaneously on Steam Deck, Big Picture, mobile, and of course the desktop client. The UI has also been updated with new fonts, dialogs, menus, and colors. Notifications have been revamped to be more specific and useful. The green bell icon only lights up when there is something new. The "tray" view is now limited to new notifications; you can also see a "view all" page with a historical view. Mario Movie Producer Responds To Zelda Rumors

Amid the rumor that a new animated The Legend of Zelda film could be in development at Illumination, the animation studio's CEO and founder Chris Meledandri has responded to the claims. "I don’t know where that came from," said Meledandri, in reference to the rumor. "I mean I can understand how people would surmise all sorts of things because obviously, we’ve had a great experience working together," Meledandri told The Wrap in a recent interview, referencing Illumination's collaboration with Nintendo on The Super Mario Bros. Movie. Meledandri is credited as the producer of The Super Mario Bros. Movie, alongside the legendary Shigeru Miyamoto. The Mario movie, which released in April, went on to become one of the most successful films in recent memory, generating over $500 million in revenue in the United States alone. Blizzard May Be Turning WoW's Trading Post Into An MTX Shop, Suggests New Datamine

World of Warcraft's popular Trading Post feature may be turned into a microtransaction store where players can earn cosmetics by purchasing a currency with real money, according to a new datamine. Blizzard introduced the Trading Post into WoW back in February as a new way for players to earn cosmetics and mounts simply by playing the game. Simply logging in once a month earns players a certain amount of a special currency, called Trader's Tenders, which can be used at the Trading Post to purchase weapon appearances, cloaks, toys, pets, mounts, and more. Each month, Blizzard adds new challenges players can complete to earn even more Trader's Tender. The wares of the Trading Post change each month. Players have taken well to the Trading Post, as it gives a new way to earn cosmetics and rewards without having to spend real money. Warner Bros. is making new Lord of the Rings movies, and in a development that might be exciting to longtime fans, it appears the studio is trying to woo back Peter Jackson. Jackson was the director and co-writer on the Oscar-winning Lord of the Rings film trilogy from the early 2000s. He also made the three Hobbit movies, though they were less critically adored. Rockstar has released GTA Online: San Andreas Mercenaries, the latest expansion to GTA 5. San Andreas Mercenaries introduces a variety of new content, such as quality-of-life improvements, new missions, a career progress feature, and so much more. Atari Will Soon Produce Its First New 2600 Cartridge Game In Over 30 Years

You can soon preorder the first officially produced Atari 2600 new game cartridge in over 30 years. While a modernized version of the game will be coming to consoles and PC, action platformer Mr. Run And Jump will also get a limited-edition physical release exclusively on the classic console. Developer John Mikula, from indie studio Graphite Lab, originally created Mr. Run And Jump for 2600 hardware. The titular run-and-jump man must find his dog, Leap, before he wanders too far into the Dark realm. The Atari 2600 release will feature over 80 screens across six different worlds. The game has a speedrun emphasis, illustrated by its scoring system. You start with 25000 points; every second that passes decreases the score by one and every time you collide with an enemy, the score decreases by 100. The limited-edition cartridge will cost $60 and comes with a box, an instruction manual, and of course, the cart itself. The carts are made from new parts and materials, with beveled edges for preventing pin damage and gold-plated connectors. Blizzard has announced Overwatch 2: Invasion, and it adds new story missions that cost $15. Invasion launches on August 10. Overwatch 2: Invasion adds three missions that are set in Rio de Janeiro, Toronto, and Gothenburg. They take place on "massive maps with complex objectives," Blizzard said in its announcement, adding that the storyline will be "in-depth." Call of Duty: Warzone's forthcoming Season 4 will come with a lot of new changes, including adjustments to health, enemy AI, and Strongholds. Notably, player health will reportedly be increased to 150 (for a total of 300 with full armor plates), which has been a highly requested feature since day one. Redfall 1.1 Update Fixes Dozens Of Issues, But Carries Huge File Size

It's safe to say that Redfall hasn't had the impact that its developers wanted, but a new patch will hopefully fix some of the game's larger problems. Based on the patch notes, the 1.1 update addresses several key complaints that players have voiced since the game's launch, especially in the gameplay department. However, given its file size of 32 GB, you may need to free up some hard drive space to download it. The full patch notes are below, but in short, nearly every aspect of the game has been improved in some way. For example, enemy spawn rates have been increased across the board, and players can move without interruption when using melee attacks. In combat, several instances of enemies randomly standing in place have been corrected, several enemy types like The Rook have been buffed, and vampire melee attacks have been improved. The patch also removes some of Redfall's technical problems. These include particle effects that caused the frame rate to tank, improved lighting performance in psychic spaces, and general improvements to stability across the board. Diablo IV could receive a new max difficulty in the future, as a dataminer has discovered evidence of a World Tier V in the game's files. Currently, World Tier IV is Diablo IV's highest difficulty, intended for players level 70-100. Monsters are at their most challenging at this world tier and overcome 40% of a player's resistances, but also reward more experience and gold. Players are also more likely to find build-defining Unique items in World Tier IV. But it seems like World Tier IV might not always be the game's top-difficulty. DatamineARPG, who runs a Ko-fi dedicated to datamining for clues about future content in games like Diablo Immortal and Diablo IV, has discovered files that make it pretty clear that a World Tier V was, or potentially still is, in the works. Official World Tier V artwork does exist in the game's files, though it could still be a placeholder image. Netflix's Skull Island Gets First Trailer, Promising Action, Mystery, And One Very Large Ape

Netflix has released the first official trailer for Skull Island, an animated series about a group of explorers who embark on a rescue mission after saving a young woman named Annie from the ocean. HBO Boss Wants No Part Of AI Revolution In Hollywood, If It Ever Happens

HBO chief content officer Casey Bloys has commented on the future of artificial intelligence in Hollywood, saying he hopes to be retired by the time the AI revolution comes, if it ever does. Speaking to Variety, Bloys started off by reminding people that he grew up in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, a town that was home to gigantic steel companies before some went bankrupt in part because they did not adapt to new trends in business. "So I am very, very aware of what happens when a company does not think about the future or is not aware of the future," he said Bloys, who has been at HBO for more than 19 years, said HBO operates differently from other media giants. He said he has never tested a pilot to decide whether or not to pick it up to series. "It's just not something we do," he said. Action-Packed Trailer Showcases Immortals Of Aveum's Magical FPS Gameplay

A new gameplay trailer for Immortals of Aveum was shown during Summer Games Fest. The trailer focused on a battle taking place on a mech in the middle of the ocean, showing off a variety of magic abilities. The sequence shows off some prominent abilities, like a whip, which can be used to both throw enemies and pull yourself towards objects as you fight enemies in small, arena-like areas. The main character is a special type of battle mage who has access to all three colors of magic, with explosive red magic, rapid fire green magic, and more AoE focused purple abilities. The combat moves quickly, seemingly inspired by the fast-paced action of shooters like Doom Eternal. The combat shown in the trailer looks inspired by Doom Eternal, with a ton of different magical abilities mixed in. In addition to the primary attacks that function more like guns, an ability menu is shown at one point, where special magic attacks are used. The one in the trailer makes a small black hole that sucks enemies into a single area for an easy follow-up. Iconic horror composer Harry Manfredini has revealed he's working on a new, as-yet unannounced Friday the 13th game that is unrelated to Gun Media's asymmetrical multiplayer horror title. Manfredini revealed the news to Rely on Horror in a recent interview, where he also discussed the differences betweeen composing for film and for video games. In the interview, Manfredini revealed that the new video game project he's working on is completely seperate to 2017's asymmetrical multiplayer horror title Friday the 13th: The Game. The new unannounced game is being developed by a different studio, and will feature "more realistic looking" characters. He also mentioned that the game would be done in a different style to Friday the 13th: The Game, presumably referring to the title's asymmetrical multiplayer gameplay. The Flash has faced scrutiny for over a year due to a variety of legal incidents involving star Ezra Miller. The actor was arrested twice in Hawaii on harassment and assault charges, pled guilty to trespassing after being charged with burglary, and has been accused of grooming a minor, among other incidents. The minor in question, now an adult, disputes the grooming allegation. In August 2022, Miller announced they were seeking treatment for "complex mental health issues." Later, in January, The Flash studio Warner Bros. announced that they were standing behind the actor. You can read more about the issues surrounding Miller here. After years of delays and controversies surrounding star Ezra Miller, The Flash film will finally run onto the silver screen June 16. The DC superhero movie adapts the classic Flashpoint storyline and even brings back Michael Keaton's Batman--as well as Ben Affleck's--for a time-traveling tale that's receiving mixed reviews. The Flash currently has a 60 metascore based on 28 reviews on GameSpot sister site Metacritic. The first half of The Flash seems to be the high point for the film, according to reviewers. The narrative is at the forefront along with Miller's Barry Allen. But critics then knocked the final climax battle for a bland CG battle with General Zod, which is teased in trailers for the movie. The New York Times has just introduced Wordle Golf, a competitive ruleset for Wordle inspired by golf, where a group can compete over nine days to crown a definitive Wordle master. Instead of assigning higher scores to earlier guesses, this competitive take on Wordle has been based around golf, where your goal is to get as few points as possible. The NYT points out that Wordle is a little easier than actual golf--especially when it comes to a "hole-in-one," which in golf is a 12,500 to one chance, while your chance of guessing the Wordle straight away is only a few thousand to one. To play Wordle Golf, you'll need to get a group together who all agree to play Wordle for nine consecutive days. Then, all you need to do is tally your scores from each day, with the winner being the person with the lowest score at the end. Destiny 2's Cool Dubstep Gun (And Several Other Exotics) Are Getting An Upgrade Next Season

Next season of Destiny 2 will see several changes made to two dozen Exotic armor pieces, and this week, Bungie has focused on which Exotic weapons are getting fine-tuned in Season of the Deep. 17 weapons will be getting a range of tweaks, some substantial, some incremental, and these changes will affect both legacy and newer Exotics. For example, Graviton Lance is getting an update that'll make it less back-loaded. In terms of performance, it'll be similar to Revision Zero's Heavy Rounds two-burst mode, and damage output is being adjusted. The RPM is increasing from 257 to 300, and the first shot will do double the damage if it lands on the body or a critical spot. The second shot, which was where the bulk of Graviton Lance's base damage was focused, will now do around 30% less damage on body and critical spots. The gun is worth obtaining, especially for its Exotic perk and catalyst, which is excellent for crowd control. Another legacy weapon in the spotlight is Sweet Business, which is getting a fun factor upgrade. From Season 21, it'll fire an explosive round on every 20th shot. Mission: Impossible Dead Reckoning Part 1 looks like it will have a little bit of everything: horses, a submarine, train, swords, boats, and car chases. Obviously, masks will play a role, too (they're a series tradition), though those weren't noticeable in the newest trailer for the upcoming action movie. Tom Cruise's Ethan Hunt will also have to protect his friends once again during a dangerous mission. It's a voice and figure from the first film of the Mission: Impossible franchise who sets the tone for the trailer--Eugene Kittridge, as portrayed by Henry Czerny. "Our lives are the sum of our choices. And we cannot escape the past," Kittridge says. "Ethan, this mission of yours is going to cost you, dearly." Kittridge is also the one who tells Ethan that "the world's coming after you." The teaser also sheds some light on Dead Reckoning Part 1's villain played by Esai Morales, who tells Ethan he "has no idea the power I represent." This eventually leads to Ethan telling the antagonist that he'll go anywhere to kill him, before the trailer cuts to Ethan riding a motorcycle off a cliff.
