Friday 'Nite is a weekly Fortnite column that takes a closer look at current events in the wide world of Fortnite, with a special emphasis on the game's plot, characters, and lore. I have a running joke with some of my Destiny-obsessed coworkers that Fortnite's storytelling merits are on the same level as Bungie's years-long, labyrinthine plot. In reality, they know--and I know--that Epic still has plenty of ground to make up in this regard. Bungie has built an industry leader in terms of merging live-service content and story, and as a Fortnite fan, the hope is one day its own web of intrigue can be given the same care and attention. I love the universe in which Fortnite is set, with its sci-fi themes and carousel of characters. I think Fortnite can stand tall beside Destiny one day as a vehicle for live-service storytelling. But for that to happen, Epic needs to find some consistency in how many proverbial bread crumbs each season leaves behind. I've been playing Fortnite since Chapter 1, Season 3, but I only got into it in a more meaningful way in Chapter 2, Season 2. Since then, one of the driving factors in my fandom has been the story. PS5 And PS4's Diofield Chronicle Isn't Final Fantasy Tactics, But It Sure Looks Like It

Square Enix announced a new strategy game to cap off the PlayStation State of Play event, and despite how it may look, it isn't a Final Fantasy Tactics entry. Instead, The Diofield Chronicle is apparently an all-new tactics IP featuring several warring nations--a classic strategy setup--and a mix of anime-style 3D models and more-realistic environments. Despite the contrasting environments and characters, the game is not using the 2D-HD visual style that Square Enix is so fond of these days. It remains to be seen how the elements will blend together. However, more tactics games are always welcome, especially when they seem to be trying something different with their visuals. Lost Ark Hunt For The Guardian Slayer Update Arrives March 10: Full Patch Notes

Amazon has detailed all the new content coming to its MMORPG Lost Ark as part of its Hunt for the Guardian Slayer update on March 10, and it includes everything from new endgame content to a Mario Kart-inspired limited-time event. As previously detailed, the update will introduce the first of the game's Abyss Raid, which are eight-player endgame boss battles against massive Guardians. The first to be introduced, Argos, will have three distinct phases, with a separate table of rewards for each phase that can be claimed once a week. Players will need at least an item level of 1370 to participate in the new content and must have first complete an associated guide quest to unlock the feature. A new limited-time event will also make its way to the game--the Arkesia Grand Prix. This event will pit two teams of seven players against one another in a race. Sharing the announcement on Twitter, the publisher confirmed that the F-Zero X will be released for the Nintendo 64 collection and will allow online cooperative play with up to three other friends. The game takes place in the year 2560 where "the greatest racing competition is the F-Zero championship. The US Government Now Owns A Pokemon Card Worth $57,000

A Georgia man has been convicted of wire fraud and sentenced to three years in federal prison after fraudulently applying for a COVID-19 relief loan, then using a good part of that money to buy a $58,000 Pokemon card. The valuable Charizard card has now been forfeit to the government as part of the prosecution. Vinath Oudomsine plead guilty to one count of wire fraud on March 7. As well as the prison time, Oudomsine will have to pay $85,000 in restitution, as well as a $10,000 fine, and will have three years of supervised release after his prison term. Oudomsine initially applied for a small business covid relief loan around July 2020, claiming to run an entertainment services business with 10 employees and a turnover of $235,000 in the previous 12 months. The best way to grind XP in Triangle Strategy is to participate in what the game refers to as Mental Mock Battles. These can be found by speaking with the bartender at your encampment. These battles are unrelated to the story and exist to let you practice taking on certain types of situations and enemies. The benefit here is that while these battles don't really happen in the context of the story, any XP and items gained are real. These battles can also be repeated endlessly, so you can grind out as much XP as you want. New battles appear as you progress through the story and each battle has a recommended level. The way XP is doled out in Triangle Strategy is a bit odd, but once you understand it you can use these Mock Battles to your advantage. If a unit is underleveled compared to either the enemies it's facing or the recommended mission level, the amount of XP it gains will be boosted. Duraludon Joins Pokemon Unite Roster On March 14

After being teased during the recent Pokemon Presents livestream--the same presentation as the Pokemon Scarlet and Violet reveal--the Steel- and Dragon-type Pokemon Duraludon will be coming to Pokemon Unite on March 14. A brief Character Spotlight trailer was released showing off Duraludon's abilities, which, thanks to its Ranged Attacker designation rely heavily on long-distance battles using lasers and other projectiles. It can also create floating rocks that damage enemies over time, release a burst of energy for area-of-effect damage, and emit a shockwave that sends it backwards, creating distance between it and nearby opponents. Duraludon's Unite move was also revealed in the trailer, an orange laser blast followed by a massive area-of-effect attack that covers nearly the entire center area of the map. Despite her low health and simple mechanics, this enchantress has high intelligence and a deadly assortment of spells and Spirit Ashes, making it best to act quickly to defeat her. Here's a guide on how to beat Elden Ring's fourth mandatory boss--and gain the ability to reallocate your character's skill points. Preparation Shortly after defeating the Red Wolf of Redagon, you'll find yourself closing in on Rennala, Queen of the Full Moon. Luckily, Rennala isn't nearly as complex, evasive, or swift as the bosses you've bested thus far, so feel free to let out a sigh a relief. Other than making sure you spend your runes and stock up on potions, the only real preparation I'd recommend is making sure you are wearing armor with high magic defense. If you're a magic user yourself, be sure to have a melee weapon on-hand for the first phase of the battle and memorize Rock Sling to take down Rennala as quickly as possible. Phase one If you're the type to summon Spirit Ashes the moment you leap into battle, my first tip for you is to hold off for a bit. The first phase of your fight against Rennala features the sorceress in a room cluttered with her devoted disciples, many of whom you needn't concern yourself with attacking. Instead, you're going to want to focus on finding and taking down the students who are providing the enchantress with her golden forcefield. To find them, search for the three students with a golden aura around them. You'll want to do this as quickly as possible, because if you take too long, Rennala will turn a handful of students into powerful objects she propels at you. While they aren't too difficult to dodge, it's an added annoyance you don't have to deal with if you work swiftly. Just days before it was meant to launch, Ubisoft has delayed The Settlers to an indefinite date. According to developer Ubisoft Dusseldorf, the feedback received from January's closed beta prompted the studio to delay its plans to release The Settlers on March 17. "As we went through this feedback, it became clear to our team that the quality wasn't yet in line with the team's vision," the studio wrote. "Therefore, we took the decision to postpone the launch of the game to a later date. The additional time will be used to further improve the game and push quality as our main priority for all our players." First announced in August 2018 and aiming for a 2019 release, details surrounding development on the city-building strategy game have been kept under wraps for years now. Marvel movie sets are usually secure locations in order to keep secrets from spilling out, but toy manufacturer Tamashii Nations has revealed a few new details on Thor: Love and Thunder. As spotted by Toyark, the company uploaded images for new figures based on the Mighty Thor and the original Odinsson, played by Natalie Portman and Chris Hemsworth respectfully in the upcoming film. Roblox is one of the most popular games on Earth, and the company that makes the game has now shared new data and insight that speak to the enormity of the game. Roblox Corp. has released its latest earnings report, and the company appears to be firing on all cylinders. Roblox had nearly 55 million daily active users in January 2022, CEO David Baszucki said. This level of enthusiasm for the game shows that Roblox is "increasingly an integral part of people's lives," Baszucki said. Comparing to other titles isn't easy because most companies do not share daily active user numbers, nor would any comparison be perfect or complete, but it's expected that Roblox would be among the largest for a single game. The NYT Has Now Officially Changed The Wordle Solution List

The New York Times' acquisition of Wordle has already stirred up a few controversies, from players' streaks being wiped to removing offensive words from the valid word list. Today we have confirmation that it's not just the valid word list that the NYT has changed--it's the solutions as well. Wordle 241, which is the puzzle for February 15th, has a different answer depending on whether you're playing on the live NYT site, or on a downloaded or cached version of the original powerlanguage.co.uk site. The NYT hasn't fully changed the solution list, it's just removed a few select answers, which means players who are sticking to the original version of Wordle will now be one day behind everyone else's solutions.
